:doh:I think Sloan is a bit too old, he's 70 years old, how long would he coach?

I was all for the Blazers making a push for Adelman when he became available, but they were stubbornly sticking to Nate McMillen. But D'Antoni is similar in that he likes to run a more fast pasted and flowing offense. Why are the Blazers looking at assistants and ignoring D'Antoni?

I'm not sure how good D'Antoni would do without Steve Nash running the point. He failed in Denver and he failed in NY.

The Blazers will interview Golden St. assistant Michael Malone in Las Vegas for their head coach opening, according to agent Steve Kauffman

Do players and coaches get along with D'Antoni? Does he have connections with coaches who he can bring in to help with player development? Or is he good at it?

Nash makes coaches look very good. I wonder the same thing about D'Antoni. But I am also concerned with interviewing two defensive minded assistants. What about their offense?

To me it is like college football. Your head coach IMO has to be the offensive brains behind the system. Assistants get promoted if they are good. You end up losing them. So unless you are Phil Jackson and keep the same triangle guru for 20 years, I would prefer a head coach who knows his shit. Not saying they guys don't. But I would like them to be flexible depending on their talent.

I think defense must come first. The Sixers showed that a good defense can give even a talent-poor roster a chance to compete.

Of course, that's what the expansion Wolves did under Musselman, and it set them back about a decade.

Been told Jeff Van Gundy not interested in returning to coaching until after his daughter graduates from high school in June of 2013

Not saying defense should be neglected, but you need to build your team around an offensive philosophy IMO. And as we all know players are not happy unless they are used "right" on offense. I assume this subject has come up in the interviews but I just would feel better if I knew the new coach had a system. To me Offense is predicated on talent and a good system.

I understand you still need a good system in place for the D, but a lot of it is just a mind set and the effort.

weird, so chat with Sloan wasn't an interview, just a job offer?

Funny to read 4 different interpretations of what was likely the same quote:

Trail Blazers ‏@pdxtrailblazers
Neil Olshey says the meeting with Jerry Sloan was NOT an interview

Chris Haynes ‏@ChrisBHaynes
Neil Olshey said he offered Jerry Sloan a formal offer. He later took his name out.

Mike Tokito ‏@mtokito
Olshey said he offered Jerry Sloan the #Blazers job.

Joe Freeman ‏@BlazerFreeman
Olshey said he offered Jerry Sloan a chance to formally interview for #Blazers coaching job during their talk. Sloan eventually declined.

Wes was awesome though. Great interview. Obviously he and LMA are the leaders on this team.

Jason Quick ‏@jwquick
POR coaching search will go deep into July. Olshey said pool to be pared at close of Vegas, then he will deliberate before Allen brought in

The obvious reasons would be the same reasons contractors hire illegal immigrants:

They'll work for peanuts, keep their mouth shut, and are easily manipulated.

In other words, PA is still refusing to hire a real coach and let him coach the best he knows how.

Why would they offer the job to Sloan? He must be a Rube.

Joe Freeman ‏@BlazerFreeman
Someone jokingly told @wessywes2 he was the reason Jerry Sloan declined #Blazers job. He quipped back: "No, I'm the reason he retired."

LOL

shit son! Olshey swinging for the fences.

CSNNW Report: Phil Jackson turns down #Blazers offer to be their next head coach after team courted him for months |

With this roster still a few years away they had the audacity to go after Phil?

I wonder if they offered him the Presidents job? Wasn't he wanting to do that earlier, or was that the GM job Phil Jackson wanted?

Phil is just waiting to see if Howard goes to LA, so I he can coach them to another finals run.

Like Phil would fuck with his win/loss record by not having a MVP to run his team.

Doesn't Tex Winter live in Portland? That's all you need.

Tex Winter is senile these days. He lives in Salem, btw.
