I'm kinda surprised that it's this late in the process and they have about 20 guys they want to interview.

I wonder who these assistant coaches can bring in to help them if hired. That has to be a factor since they have no head coaching history to evaluate. Being a top assistant does mean you are head coach material. You have to have some leadership skills as well. Not sure if Canales is the best choice but if he can deliver Grgurich I would think that is a plus. Unless PA is still pissed at Grgs over the law suite.

I wonder if we lose Kaleb when they hire a new coach. He does not seem as happy as he was last year during the interviews I have seen. I am sure it is a little uncomfortable for him right now though.

The blazers are playing this just right. I'm so tired of this crap, I'll take about anyone now!

The only player thats really had a problem with SVG was Howard. Everybody knows how much of a diva Howard is.

Actually I remember something from last season; they did one of those league-wide polls of players and they asked guys to rank the coaches/players on a bunch of different categories: most likable, least likable, dirtiest, nicest, etc. and SVG was one of the most disliked guys IIRC.

Marc Berman ‏@NYPost_Berman
Told @ Vegas summer-league former #Knicks assistant Phil Weber will interview for Blazers head-coaching job. Weber is D'Antoni disciple.

Shaw was in Orlando w/#Pacers and has a great situation. Still, he wants a head gig. Like Michael Malone, next in line. Meeting w/#Blazers.

Sam Amick ‏@sam_amick
Brian Shaw has pulled out of the Orlando coaching search, a source told http://si.com.

What is his offensive and defensive philosophies? What makes him a great fit? I know little about him as a coach.

He's a motion guy with a triangle base. Likes uptempo and pressure, physical defense....see Indiana

Given Lillard's shooting touch that could work ... of course that means Aldridge would need to get a little better at reading double teams and passing out of them (when appropriate) but I think a motion offense could really take advantage of Nic's ability to come off of screens (Barton too).

Gotta think he's more qualified than Canales right?

People will bitch and laugh, but I am more qualified than Canales

Shaw and Malone advancing into Portland's "second round"?

Maybe Orlando told Shaw and Malone that they are moving Howard soon for a bunch of picks and plan on sucking Charlotte style for the next 4-5 years

All I know is a lot of people, including myself, questioned Olshey about waiting so long, but every single candidate that was available when he got the job is still available....just like he said

True to his word it seems. Let's see if he does match Batum, and then I'll be a happy camper all year.

Do you think Ewing would be willing to be an assistant, and be our big man coach?

I won't bitch or laugh - but I won't believe you on that point, either. Canales, for whatever his faults, has been working full-time in the NBA for several years now.

So has The HCP.
