A flashback to a PM I received in the final days of the BBF MELTDOWN.

Why maxiep got banned...
I banned him. It was originally a 5-day ban, but was changed to a permanent ban, and here's why: obviously there was a lot of ruckus involving why the political threads were moved to the PE forum. I closed one of the threads that had a ton of discussion (as I was asked to) and told them that if they had any further issues about what happened, to PM a Community Mod or Admin. maxiep didn't want to listen, and kept creating new topics. I gave him an infraction, and warned him to stop or it would result in a ban. He didn't stop and kept creating new threads, this time about Kobe Bryant raping women, which was an obvious attempt to try and get under my skin. I deleted those threads and banned him for 5 days; however, he created a new username that same night and started posting under it, which is a direct violation of the TOS (ban evasion). That ALWAYS results in a permanent ban; I don't care who you are on this board. So I banned his new username, and changed the ban on his "maxiep" username to permanent. I really didn't want to as I don't want members leaving, but it had to be done. I know some members disagree with it, but it's over with and he's gone.

It had nothing to do with him and Dan going at it or anything about his political views or whatever else you might want to believe. He would have been back tomorrow if he hadn't created a new usernamne.

Hope that explained it for you.

+1

IMO I am glad she is gone. She did nothing but attack people and not their post. The rules on here clearly state that is not how you act on this forum.

And yeah you can argue that other posters have broken those rules more in the past, but this place is gathering more and more members and I understand that the rules need to be enforced more-so now to keep the peace.

I had one run in with BF, where she was trolling Eric. I called her out for doing so and she went crazy on me. I did not complain to the mods because I can handle my own, but I understand why some users might. Her schtick is to just cause drama.

Drama in this forum is not what we need, we're all grown ups so hopefully we should act like it for the majority of time we are here. Plus how many warnings do you get before you get the banhammer?

It's only drama if you let it be drama. I have no idea how people can get so worked up over words on a message board?

That Basel dude was ridiculous!

Turns out, we're all human and have some emotional ties that aren't rational. It's easy to get worked up if you have a strong opinion, some insecurity, and an audience you think might be secretly judging you (pro tip: they are).

I was on BBF. This is nothing like that, that was a mod from outside the community coming in and banning people because they had a different opinion about politics in the OT forum. This is about someone personally attacking and causing problems in the actual Blazers forum, and a Blazers mod banned her.

But some of you guys love to hang that over Denny's head. "Ohhh, if you don't treat us right we'll leaaaave."

That would be a big mistake at this juncture. The forum culture isn't what it used to be. If you want to leave and either go to a different forum or start one yourself, you'll find that you'll just shrink down the community that much more and you'll be talking with a very small group of people. If you thought this place was clicky, it will only get worse. There's a reason why there isn't much youth on this forum. Kids don't post on forums anymore. It's just us old farts. How many people do you think consistently post on here? 15-20? We have a lot of people who lurk, but the number of people who actually post is very small. This community can't survive another migration. It's already significantly smaller than it was on BBB.net.

It's your call, but do you really want to kill the community over a poster who has been banned from two other places for similar issues?

Dude, you gotta check yourself. Where did I say that I wanted to leave? You take a lot of stuff out of context.

The fact that they are openly saying they don't care if we're there or not just shows what complete morons they are. Umm, yeah.... we're a message board. We make money on number of hits. But he don't really care about hits. The Blazers fans were there in droves, left in droves, came here in droves...... that's a ton of hits. This thread alone has how many hits. It's about some rook getting banned.

Yeah, maybe they don't understand the business model?

Even funnier is that mixum thinks we're going up in a blaze of glory. This is pretty much a typical week for us. We have a thread like this at least once every-other-week.

Maybe Ben Davis will end up there as well and it can be the Blazer troll forum?

I've never posted on message boards where lots of kids post. I was rare that I started posting on message boards when I was like 14 or something. Kind of a nerd in that regard I guess.

Kids probably stick with the video game boards.

As for the leaving thing I think everybody who says that is just busting Denny's balls. This kind of shit with trolls and vindictive posters happens on every message board. I have no problem with cutting the fat every once in a while to clean the place up a little bit.

BF was shitting all over the board. She sucked.

Is your new avy supposed to be an homage to BF.

If so, it's pure genius. If not, well, I'm going to pretend you did so and just try to give you credit (even if you wandered into it blindly).

I do not let it be drama, but I call it like it is since I am not a robot. However, I also stand for a certain set of principals. This means, when people are blatantly causing problems (and breaking the rules) on a place that I like to visit and talk about things with others, I call them out. I also can understand why other people would complain as well. There doesn't have to be the nuisance in the room that everyone tries to ignore but secretly is screaming on the inside, forever. We opened the airlock and let the shit out.

You're trying, for lack of a better analogy, taking "the zoloft pill" (where it allows nothing to bother you) and then saying everyone else should do the same. I get it, but in my opinion, all that does is enable the bad/annoying/etc to continue to be bad/annoying/etc.

This was my first experience with message boards and was brought about by my enthusiasm for the Blazers.

I enjoyed reading the different perspectives, from the guys who are always negative about everybody to the homers.

Maybe I'm naive as an inexperienced message boarder, but the notion that these "mods" can just ban somebody because they don't like things they said or other insiders complain kinda defeats the whole purpose of a message board (absent threats or racial slurs or the like, none of which BF ever did).

Even when people got suspended, I was shocked. Had no idea it was even a thing. Overall, I'd love to talk basketball, but this crap is just too much. Feels like a high school popularity contest.

As an outsider, my parting advice would be that if you want to be an "old boys' network" where the long-timers can tell the powers that be to ban people who hurt their feelings, that's fine, but you might not want to be the team's official message board if that's the case.

Very well said. When the site announced they would be the Official Blazers Board... I thought... hey... this could be cool. Maybe we will get some new blood in here... new perspectives. Some old posters that haven't been around in awhile that I really enjoyed poked their heads up too.

But another part of me sat back and waited for the fireworks that I knew would happen... pretty sure the board would protect the old order of things, which seems to be exactly what happened.

I honestly think Buffalo Blazer is missing the point.

The point is, she continued to break the (sites) rules and cause problems with other posters in damn near every thread she participated in. Then she was warned to stop, and she continued to repeat the same behavior, this resulting in her ban.

I do not see how that translates to a 'good ol boy network' or being banned because people 'didn't like things she said'; it was't about peoples hurt feelings, it was about the repeated rule breaking. Habitual line stepper.

Yeah, but he's not the only one missing the point. There's several other posters missing it, including some long-timers.

I think BF would be quite proud to know the interest in her situation here has generated more posts than the last game thread.

I miss MIXUM......and his outright stupidity!

I signed in over at BBF last night. That guy Basel is posting in MIX's thread right now! I say we all go back for 48 hours!

I will not argue that at all. Consistency is what this place needs for sure.

I'm not missing the point, I'm disagreeing with it.

Since you're missing my point, I will explain it. I thought the point of a forum was to create a marketplace of thoughts and ideas and encourage discussion and/or debate. Having three guys with strange internet quasi-police powers ban people with whom they don't see eye-to-eye does not foster a diverse marketplace of ideas; it eliminates it. Again, if she had been making threats or similar statements, I'd agree that something has to be done, but that simply was not the case.

I think I recall a guy named Roy Toy getting suspended the other day for posting "_amian Lillar_?" in a game thread during a game where Lillard was playing turnstyle defense. His post made me laugh; the suspension certainly did not.

BF was not my favorite poster, but she did get meaningful basketball conversations going. While her methods were not exactly how I would approach things, I really don't see how she endangered the forum. She debated zealously and sometimes used language, but I, for one, appreciated the spinoff debates and discussions that she often created.

I concede that, as a one-month member with 50-something posts, I really don't have standing to tell you what to do. However, I wanted to give you an outsider's perspective that this whole thing seems a little ridiculous and clicky. You're either in with the cool kids or you'd better not say the wrong things. I'd be damned if I'm going to put myself in a position where an internet security guard can tell me I can or cannot post on an official NBA team forum. I'd suspect that other people thinking of becoming new members may feel the same way.

Rep'd for internet security guard.
