So you wouldn't have traded CJ for either Jayson Tatum or Donovan Mitchell?

I would have. Hell, I wanted Donovan Mitchell before draft time.

But we didn't need to trade CJ. Instead we traded for Zach Collins.

Not before the draft. Would you have traded CJ for Josh Jackson, Lonzo Ball or DeAaron Fox? They were #2, #4 and #5
No because I wasn't high on any of those guys. I absolutely would have traded CJ for Tatum pre-draft though (not that it was ever a possibility). Mitchell we could've had without trading CJ. In this draft there are some guys I really like near the top. I would consider trading CJ for Doncic. I like Bamba but I also like Nurk so trading CJ for him doesn't make a whole lot of sense even though I think he's going to be a beast. I obviously don't have access to medical records so I don't know about Porter Jr but I would trade CJ for him if his medical was clean. Ideally I'd love to pair Mikal Bridges with Dame and CJ but I'd trade CJ for him and another asset (Like Kevin Love and #8 or NY 2020 1st rounder and # 9 or a bunch of good stuff Philly has and #10 if he fell that far). Those are deals I'd do at the draft depending on who was available. I'd also do CJ for Tobias Harris, Boban, and #12 and #13.

I also really want to acquire a pick in the mid-to-late teens to acquire Khyri Thomas because if he developed he could be a CJ replacement and we could then trade CJ for something else.

Edit: I'm not saying any of those trades are on the board or even realistic, just listing ahead of the draft what I would be willing to give up CJ for.

The point I was going for is that the draft is always somewhat of an unknown and people far more experienced than us did draft those players that high and even though they are solid players and will likely be good in the future the draft is never a sure thing and that's with a lot of data and advanced scouting being done. It looks like we will just have to agree to disagree on this matter.

I like what Boston keeps doing in continuing to add young talent to their veterans.

Contributing and replacing the second best player on a team aren't the same thing though.
This points to the other reason I'd trade CJ for a top-5 pick; I don't think he's as good as his raw numbers suggest. I think his perceived value around the league likely outweighs his impact on a team's success, and I'd be fully in favor of maximizing his value at this point, especially since I also see him as someone who longs for a bigger market than little ol' Portland.

All complete speculation, I know.

Saw this gem today:

CJ and Turner for Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson

I guess it wouldn't be too bad if we found a 3rd team to trade Jackson to for something worthwhile.

I liked Jackson when he was on the Thunder for some reason. But yeah, his contract is shit these days.

Would Drummond instead of Nurkic (if we don't resign him) be better for us? I don't really think it would. I'm gonna say no to this trade, even though we are shipping out Turner.

Yes, Drummond over Nurkic would be a huge upgrade.

Nurkic is great defensively; Drummond is even better. Is an elite rebounder. Is as good a passer. Turns the ball over less. Is a better finisher down low. Is better at not fouling. And has improved his FT shooting significantly enough that he's no longer a late-game liability. Drummond would allow us to not suffer if we lose ED.

And yes, Reggie's contract sucks, but as far as incredibly overpaid backups go, I'd rather have him than Turner.

Yeah let's bring Drummond and we are the worst defensive Team in the League again

Drummond would be a home run... he is a 24 year old all star level big man... best rebounder in the league, can pass, and won’t fumble the ball like Nurk in pick and rolls... and you get rid of Turner?! That deal is a no brainer

Sure has helped Detroit...

I wouldn't even trade Zach for DAJ straight, and we should add Swanigan (3 years on Rookie Contract) + Aminu as a 3nD Player on a great Contract + our starting small forward??? Is that guy drunk?

I'm the Blazers in a mock draft on a Sacramento Kings site and I have a couple of offers on the table.

Olynyk and Winslow for Turner and #24. This saves about $4 million (not including the salary for #24). Winslow has been a bit of a bust but he's close to Turner and is still on his rookie deal. We'd still have the TPE to hopefully get a late 1st back with.

Faried, 14, and 43 for 24 is the other one. We move up 10 spots in the draft and pick up a mid 2nd but we have to add a lot to our payroll to do it.

Do the 2nd one, or try to flip Winslow and Olynyk.

We allready have 110 million guaranteed Salary and that not include Nurkic, Davis, Baldwin, Napier, Connaughton, Papa G

Who cares? We have Paul Allen. With Faried, we likely give him Eds role. And we could make smaller trades to shed a little more salary.

I do Winslow + olynik for Evan turnover and #24 In a heartbeat

Winslow and Turner have similar turnover numbers and are actually on the lower side at 1.1 and 1.3 respectively. Olynck actually averages more turnovers than Turner at 1.9 in similar minutes and doesn;t handle the ball as much. I also doubt very much that Miami would do the trade.

I don't care, everybody is better than Evan turnover

@hoopsjock I would take the Faried trade then:

Shop Aminu to a team with cap space or a TPE, and try to do this:

POR Gets: Bayless, #10, #26 or Bolden/Lessort
PHI Gets: #14
3rd Team Gets: Aminu

Bones, unfortunately there are a bunch of morons in there and no one will take Aminu and picks are worth way more than they should be. People are refusing to give up crappy 2nd rounders for a guy like Bam Adebayo.

So while I agree that course of action would be great, it's not looking doable. I think I'm better off doing the Miami trade and shopping those guys/using the TPE elsewhere.
