Blazer TV deal, it's..... (2 Viewers)

I don't know if this has been posted or not BUT, Local network channels are NOT live on Playstation Vue. A couple channels like abc, NBC, and Fox have an "On Demand" option so you can watch shows like Modern Family for example but you can't watch live programming. You will need an alternative such as over the air antenna to watch local stuff LIVE such as Katu, Kptv, etc...
They have networks channels in some markets. They just came to Portland, I won't be surprised to see them add live local channels eventually.

Do they work okay deep inside a house or do I need to run it out to like the window or something?

Can you see the antennas on Council Crest and the West Hills from your house? if not during the day can you see the flashing light on top of them at night? If yes, line of sight, indoor antenna is fine. If not, try an indoor antenna but you may have to get an rooftop one or one that hangs out the window (just make sure it's a window facing in your case east.)

It's interesting that we know the financials of our free agents but not the new TV contract.

Exactly. Plus, my wife hates the sports, and hates it when I get angry about sports. Happy wife, happy life.

You loved the Blazers before her? She should understand. You said "for better or worse" before you said "happy wife happy life". :dunno:

It's funny; we started dating right as the Jail Blazers imploded, and they didn't get good until after I proposed, so for most of our dating, I wasn't too invested. She understands but also makes no bones about hating sports on TV (she likes them live though).

My wife doesn't like the mood that sports put me in. It's really no different than someone drinking alcohol and being in a shitty mood. People don't want to be around someone that's being an asshole, no matter what the cause is.

Exactly. I don't blame her because I have been horrible in the past. I'm so glad the ducks mostly duck again.

My wife is the same way. Not a big sports fan. She absolutely hates football season. Likes watching blazer games live. Not so much on tv.

Its been great lately though, she would come with me to buffalo wild wings to watch the ufc ppvs with some friends. At first she only liked going for the food and drinks. But over time she developed a love for the sport and now she is obsessed with conor mcgregor. Its so much fun getting into his fights with her.

I'm just happy she likes most of my geeky shows; I'll let her hate sports. I hate NCIS and SVU so we're even.

Honest question: Can someone tell me the appeal of UFC and MMA? I honestly don't get it.

This has always blown me away. When I hear people talk about, "Oh during so in so time I didn't follow the team or root for the team" No disrespect to you FAMS, BUT HOW IN THE FUCK AT ANY POINT IN OUR LIFE HAVE NOT BEEN 100% LOYAL AND FOLLOW AND ROOT AND BE INVESTED IN THE PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS!!??
Just is mind boggling to me that at any time in your life if you are a fan of a team, you just kinda' floated in and out like that!

its entertaining. And you end up on the edge of your seat, especially in the final rounds when someones only chance to win is by knockout or submission.

(It's two words: Trail Blazers)

Wow you jumped to conclusions fast! I watched and listened to as many games as I could during those years but I didn't get angry when we lost. I wasn't as intensely invested emotionally. But one of my favorite memories is a Joel Przybilla game from like 2005 when he score 16 or something. Listened on the radio because we couldn't afford cable.

I'm really disappointed that you'd think I wasn't a fan during some years. I await your apology.

Well, for one thing, they weren't paid to watch the games.

The appeal is largely the same as most other sports. Competition to be better than thou. This just happens to be on the most basic of levels. In order to understand MMA, you must first understand the history of warfare and hand to hand combat. It has been around longer than any other sport, major or minor.
When assessing one's own body and physique, we are blinded by the now and our short term memory that allows us to live in a false security of complacency, thinking the world is what we see now, has always been this way and will always continue this way.
Until the inception of mechanized weapons in the 16th-17th centuries(not sure exactly), man has largely combated with hand to hand combat/weapons in a close and personal manner, of which most have little knowledge of because we live in the world of guns and are too afraid to be punched in the mouth.
MMA is a way for those who still believe in solving things with your fists vs using a deadly weapon to get to vent when we see and read about all the idiotic things that some idiotic gun owners do. (I am in favor of the 2nd amendment, doesn't mean there aren't idiots out there also protected by it.)

It's pretty lame imo.

To each their own, but it is not far off from Boxing and Wrestling. as a matter of fact, most champions in the history7 of MMA have a Wrestling/Grappling background.

I've seen better moves outside after closing time but then I miss back in the day boxing.

Now your just talking shit....

Man, I just started covering MMA this past fall for work......I hate it. I have worked boxing for years and it is not the same.

Why is that? I am genuinely curious? MMA us a much more complete form of combat and much more in line with what would really happen on the streets in a death match. I find it much more interesting than Boxing merely because of the fact that it is combat in its most pure form we can get while still having regulations for competition sake.

There are many idiots who are fans of the MMA though, this is for sure. With everything that Dana white has don't to make it a respectable sport, the fans do shit to derail the movement. Some fans love to think they are just as tough as these guys and its hilarious. With that said, it isn't table fucking tennis either, so some attitude will have to be expected when mixing with MMA fans, as sad as it is.

On another note, I don't get the thing about WWF anymore. I was a fan when I was a id. Had my Roddy Piper doll and all that shit, but it has changed and its a complete soap opera for adults now. I doubt would let my kids watch that shit if I had any. At least with MMA you are seeing, witnessing, visualizing and possibly participating in something that can teach you self defense.

I think we are in for some serious change real soon. With the Hilary debacle and the election in the fall, combined with Obama's inevitable surging push for gun control on the heels of the tragedy in Dallas, this country might just spin out of control real quick. We are much more fragile than most think when it comes to the economy and internal stability. If the Dallas situation continues to escalate across the country and the government calls for martial law and the gathering of arms, this country will go into complete turmoil, because no one will abide. When that happens, you know who will take advantage? Isis and other Terrorist cells waiting for us to devour ourselves from within and be so preoccupied, they feel they can swoop in and finish the job of sending us into a tail spin.

Self Defense might be a much higher priority of knowledge in the average Americans minds in the near future. Just sayin...

You do know that UFC/MMA is completely different than WWE/WWF right?

That was my thing... I grew up in the attitude era of WWF... but then I grew up and realized all fighting is just dumb. Not saying you're dumb for watching it, just saying the trajectory isn't always the same for everyone.

I guess I just grew out of the "Cool, we're watching people beat each other up" phase.

I do appreciate going into the psychology of it, I guess I just don't understand it. To each their own.
