I'd wonder if a sale that takes ownership of the Blazers from a trust to an individual owner abrogates the lease deal

Massively different scenarios
I wonder if a new perspective owner would rather not have the Moda, because they want to build a new arena.
WITH THE TAXPAYERS PAYING FOR IT.
They are today. I have said that multiple times, including just a few days ago in the season holders ticket thread.
But this deal changes that. It turns things over to the city and the taxpayers. It gives the Blazers leverage to threaten to leave if they don't get what they want. It gives a new owner the ability to put his thumb on the scale in how the Blazers are financially run.
This is from the City of Portland's website, do you know what they've done with the revenue from the RQ parking garages? Improve the area? Upgrade the MC? No, they spent it on a street car no one rides.

I’m always pretty nervous about that happening, but FAMS…..I’m no weirdo!Hope this settles down all you weirdos who think the team is moving someday.
Yes you are.I’m always pretty nervous about that happening, but FAMS…..I’m no weirdo!
I think the NBA has been pretty clear since the backlash after the Seattle move that they have no interest in moving historic franchises/any franchises from their current fan base. I'm assuming that the language in this deal has the city taking all of the profits they get from the Moda Center and re-investing them in both continued upkeep and future renovation of the arena probably along with investments into infrastructure and buildings for better businesses to lease in the surrounding area... since the city got the arena for a dollar. If the team is sold and moved, it was written in that whatever money the city puts into improvements in the Moda, the new owners have to pay back 100% of whatever the city invested.
Sure sounds like the Seattle situation.
So much for the team moving, eh?
i sold an old truck with a blown head gasket for 1 dollar. Did Portland just purchase a billion dollar sports arena for 1 dollar? Hmmm... the stadium must need a new engine.
I think we should move the team to Hillsboro. Maybe they can use that stupid new baseball stadium that the MLB is extorting out of us.
The NBA doesn't want to have a team that has been stable for the majority of it's existence, and has been in a city for 50+ years, move.
It's not a good look for the league.
There's a reason why no team has moved since the Sonics, even tho there has been several teams that should have. not being bogged down by owning the RG makes it easier for the team to build a new one without having a 2nd building to own and sit empty.
Yeah, if you're paranoid you'll think it's just to get out of the city...but eventually the RG will need to be replaced. This makes that easier.
And then the city can use the RG for stuff like the Winterhawks and other stuff without worrying about conflicts with the Blazers in there.

What would really be messed up is Jody sells the team, the new owner gets a free renovation on us, then after the 5 years, renegotiates and is reinstalled as the owner of the arena.
Wait wut? If you're talking about MLB2PDX that's would be in Beaverton
If you're talking about the Hops new stadium (still waiting for the final monies and we will know by March 15th) that would be because we moved up in affiliation to the Diamondbacks, and thus MLB has standards they need to abide by. They've given us 2 years. Technically 3 but the building will start as soon as funds happen. I'm excited for it if it happens.

Not saying it's going to happen. Just saying it opens the door.
diamond project is a hoax. They just wanted a creative way to sell bumper stickers, coffee mugs and other swag.
So the new stadium going to be out by the baseball stadium???
