I suppose 'compete' is subjective. With Nurkic, the Blazers were at least playing better and would have been much more competitive and got something out of the Playoff series....especially for Nurkic who has never been. Maybe they only win a game or two but that is quite different from playing the way they were before Nurkic when I think they get swept and aren't competitive unless the Warriors get bored.
There is a lot more to be gleaned from one of those processes than the other even though the final outcome would be similar.
True it would be nice to get Nurk minutes in the playoffs. But I think people forget how good the Warrior are. They were freaking annihilating people before Durant's injury. He will be back. We might be able to slow the 2 home games down enough for Nurk to be a factor, but I am guessing the games in GS will be track meets. Not sure Nurk would be a huge factor. But I could certainly be wrong.
However it's the "returning to basketball purgatory" part of the original post that I find absurd.. I just can't possibly see how Nurk's injury makes that big of a difference in that scenario. Nor do I see how dropping 3-5 spots in the draft will. It's a deep draft with few stars at the top. So there are plenty of good young players out there that we can get with 3 first round picks. We just have to get the right ones.....as always. Nothing new there.
