Blazers are for Sale

Yup. I think Vegas is the threat. A big group of investors who want to bring a team to the strip and they don't want to wait for the league to figure out if they want to expand.
On top of that, I think the new reports that other team owners are pumping the breaks on the expansions it’s even more of a worry.

No expansions = just keeping the NBA at 30 teams but moving one or two to Seattle/Vegas is even more likely.

the timing of everything seems fishy.

At this point I sure would rather have Jody keep the team long enough that the maybe one day they do expand and add Seattle and Vegas then she can sell the team and I would feel a lot better about this whole situation.

This would also explain why the team is for sale now and not... in the next couple years. If they know that there won't be expansion, no reason to wait.

To me it reads, we don't want an ownership group that scrapes up enough to buy the team, we want an owner firmly in the billionaire club; he's demanding massive investment in the NBA.

I think this is far more likely the scenario than anything. Plus, i dont think the league wants a mom and pop type ownership group buying the Blazers. The league knows a strong Portland franchise is more important to the league than losing Portland as a franchise, especially since they've been here for 55+ years. That is not a good look for the NBA, especially if they allow the team to be moved to Seattle.

Look at the shit-show that is happening in MLB with the Athletics and Rays, that's not exactly exuding confidence in the stability of teams.

Like I've said before, the NBA knows that having the Sonics leaving Seattle has been a negative blight on the league, and solving that by having a team move from one of the most stable franchises would be stepping on their own dick, time 100.

The NBA will move the Blazers to Seattle and put Portland down for an expansion team when they expand the league. That will give us time to build a new arena.

:biglaugh:That's hilarious. I really hope you nor anyone else here actually believes that is an actual option the NBA is considering.

I believe they're being sarcastic. He tries to say things in an attempt to be like barfo, but the difference is, people like barfo and barfo is actually clever and says things that are funny.

You need some deep pockets to pay for a new arena like that. My guess is the new owners will want a tax break to make it happen, and the non-basketball fans will go ape shit over it.

first thing: Jody and the Vulcans didn't have much of a choice, The Trust owned the Blazers and I'd be pretty certain the trust instructed the Vulcans on maintenance of the franchise. I'd need to see a listing of what they actually paid for that was voluntary, and then need to know what the tax ramifications were

Portland is a one horse town and the horse hasn't been sold in 37 years. The world is a lot different then it was in 1988. And the NBA is a lot different then when PA bought the Blazers for 70M and Sam Bowie was the highest paid Blazer at 1M. Kiki made 960K and Clyde made 350K

new owners want new arenas. Just ask Steve Ballmer

like you, I think Las Vegas is a real threat here. Now, they don't really have an NBA arena but is there any doubt that Vegas would foot the bill to build a brand spanking new arena? How much doubt will there be about the City of Portland doing the same? I don't think Silver was just throwing out a random thought. It was calculated

Vegas is already building a new arena that’s NBA ready.

The city of Seattle had the Ms and the Seahawks, so it wasn't a big hit to them to have one less big league franchise. We don't have that same luxury as a city and a state we would probably foot the bill if the new owner/owners demanded it. Hopefully there is at least one group in the bidding that loves our city and state and has deep enough pockets that another one to two billion to build a state of the art arena that they own would be appealing to them.

I doubt that's the case because I don't think Silver says that if they have a buyer lined up who wants to build an arena themselves. So again I'll just say the city and state will have to come through and I think unlike Seattly they will. That being said I'm not as sure about the Blazers staying as I was the day before yesterday.

Would you guys root for the Blazers under a new name in a new city if you knew basketball wasn’t coming back to Portland for the next 20 years?
I'd still be an NBA fan but I'd be a man without a team. I would never follow the team that stole the Blazers from Portland and Oregon. They'd be a team I would root against.

Portland Mayor interviewed yesterday at the Moda, said Moda is one of best in the nation

I'd be done with them. They have been here my entire life and I've rooted for them tirelessly. Prepping them as another city would hurt to much.

I didnt care with the Raiders moving because i'm not from Oakland. I actually prefer Vegas to Oakland so it was a win for my Fandom.
So in our case would having both our teams in the same city be good?

The city of Portland will not let the Blazers leave. The impact would be a mega hit to the city on many levels.

LOL! That won’t make any difference at all to new ownership.

He isn't wrong. @THE HCP has said that before regarding arenas throughout the USA. Unless I am misremembering HCP.
Well I’ve been to Moda and Climate Pledge in the past year and it’s not even close. Maybe the NBA still has a lot of shitty arenas?
