Blazers are in 4th seed

Because if OKC also wins, they ALSO have the same record as Blazers and Spurs. So it comes down to a three way tiebreaker. We win the three way tiebreaker, SA comes in second, OKC comes in third.

How come we win the tiebreaker? Just trying to wrap my head around it all.

If it’s record and conference record doesn’t it go to head to head matchup? Okc has a worse conference record than SA..?

No. Read carefully:

It is a THREE WAY tiebreaker. The first THREE WAY tiebreaker is head to head between the three teams that are tied.

Blazers are 4-0 vs OKC and 1-2 vs Spurs so they are 5-2.
Spurs are 2-1 vs OKC and 2-1 vs Blazers so they are 4-2
OKC is 1-2 vs Spurs and 0-4 vs Blazers so they are 1-6

So head to head to head, we have the BEST record so we are 1st, Spurs have the SECOND best record so they are second, and OKC sucks so they are third. Understand now?

Yes wow that seems odd to me but thanks for laying that out.

So if NO and OKC win are we still 4th??
I need to ask these questions while I have someone’s attention lol

Yes. In fact, only one of those teams has to win for us to at least get 4 seed. Of course, if we win, none of that matters and we're the 3rd seed.

I didn’t realize how big sweeping okc was this year... that makes me pretty damn happy

By the way, Grizzlies are stuck in the #2 lottery position and accomplish nothing by losing so they may try to win and that could cause us some trouble. Also, OKC usually struggles against teams they feel are 'beneath' them.

Or Pelicans yes. Or we could win. All three of those scenarios, we have HCA.

And those games will be over by the time our game starts. Wonder how Terry would play it if we already have home court secured. On one hand we have a bunch of guys that need to get it going, but on the other hand I think a lot of it is fatigue based, and they could use rest.

Yep. It'll be interesting. Which team would you rather play in 2nd round if the top seeds win? GS or Houston? I say we go for 3 seed plus our team desperately needs a win right now. Just to feel good about themselves.

Depends if golden state has curry or not. If they do I’d rather play Houston.

For me, in a perfect world, we get the 3 seed and Denver gets to 6 seed. We are way more experienced than Denver, Nurkic plays well against them, and Denver would be playing 4 games on the road and they are not good on the road. This would involve OKC losing though and we would HAVE to beat Utah.

The only team I wanted to avoid was Utah so it don’t matter to me who we play, although I will admit a Pop coached team still scares me.

I still want to eliminate the Spurs from the playoffs.
Would be all too sweet to eliminate Aldridge.
Blazers playing like sh*t right now won’t beat the Spurs. Better play the Pelicans or Denver

Blazers win, most likely matchup will be OKC. Blazers lose, drop to 5th to play winner of Spurs/Pels. Simple as that. Don't see OKC losing to Memphis, so other scenarios not likely. OKC would be a battle royale with the Nation rooting for that @#$% Westbrook. Go Blazers!! Man! Just would suck losing homecourt. Either way, Blazers need to turn this brutal losing streak around, and go into the playoffs with a little Mo.

How do we drop to fifth if OKC wins?

I thought head to head decides HCA, but then I read that scenario on the last page with the three way tie, and Blazers win that. So I am wrong, and need a drink! to figure this BS out.

I believe this is incorrect. It seems HCA is NOT decided based on seeding, but by the head-to-head record in a playoff matchup unforunately. Essentially, we would NOT have HCA against Spurs if we fall to 4th seed in this scenario. Quote from BlazersEdge:

Here’s the memo from the league explaining that home-court advantage is decided by head-to-head regular season record when teams with identical wins face off in the playoffs (huge thanks to Mike on Twitter for making me aware of this). This is similar to the scenario in 2015 when the Blazers snagged the fourth seed by virtue of their division championship but seeded home-court advantage to the Grizzlies who had won more games in the regular season.

In short, if the Blazers and Spurs play each other in the first round and both teams have 48 wins the Spurs will have home-court advantage, regardless of seeding.

My guess on who I think wins tomorrow night, we are playing the Spurs

None of this is true. We will not be playing OKC in any possible scenario. If we lose, we do not drop to 5th unless Spurs and Memphis win. Read my thread:

That is not true. Blazers Edge is wrong. That is a memo from three years ago. 2015 was different because we were a higher seed due to being a division leader but the team with the better record got HCA. Division win doesn't guarantee top 4 seed anymore. If Blazers, Spurs, and OKC are tied, Blazers get HCA against Spurs due to three way tiebreaker.
