Blazers are in 4th seed

Forgot it was an ESPN game, it is a 7:30 game, which slides our tipoff down a couple minutes to 7:41. So we could know our situation midway thru the first quarter.

Personally I want the 3 seed.
Pinning HCA advantage hopes on Westbrick doesn't seem smart to me.

On the other end of the spectrum, we could end up with either the 19th pick or the 24th pick in the 2018 draft, pending pre-lottery tiebreakers. So much riding on the game tonight.

I pin those hopes on the good guys

I believe the part of my post you deleted said this.
So I guess thanks for agreeing with me.

Why I pushed 'show ignored content' is beyond my comprehension.

Would you rather have 3 seed vs Spurs, or 4 vs Pels though?

Spurs, I want to eliminate Aldridge.

Plus AD basically needs a knife to get called for fouls.

only if you think GS will lose in the first round.

At this point, who would you rather play in the second round, Utah or GS? I guess we will know after tonight's game, when it is too late to matter.

Sounds like we'll have home court in the first round. I guess I'd rather face the Pels, but having home court is a bigger factor to me than which of those teams we get. I'm more concerned about not having home court in the second round, if we make it that far, which is why I really want the Blazers to win tonight. Win tonight, get playoff momentum, defend home court.

quoting doesn't require deleting anything....I responded to the part I agreed with....you don't need to push showed ignore content on my account...whatever floats your boat....

Neither, I'd like to get into HOU's bracket.

I want the Pellies as the 4th seed. So us losing, and NO winning gets us there.

Chad doing was going back and fourth with someone on Twitter last night and he said that they checked with the league and this is not the case.
SA can have Home court as the lower seed if we play them
Can you link the tweets stating this?

Ya this throws a wrench in this. I thought a three way tie breaker would be broken by overall record among those three teams. So if OKC-POR-SAS all end up with 48 wins, it would be: 3. UTA, 4. POR, 5. SAS, 6. OKC

but would HCA revert back to our head to head vs SAS? We would then lose that.

This chart shows on the 8th line that Portland gets HCA with an OKC win, a Spurs win, and a Utah Win.
It also shows that the only way for Portland to drop to 5, is for Memphis to beat OKC tonight.
The chart is clear for SEEDING. It doesn't state or mention anywhere about having HCA. I have yet to see anything definitive clarifying that higher SEED = HCA. There are some inferences, but nothing clear and definitive.

If this quote has any truth to it, there is still some doubt on which rules take precedence.
It's unbelievable to me that the NBA does not have the protocols for this situation clearly identified. The NBA could have easily seen this quagmire coming, and has not issued any clarification memos (that I have seen).

This seems consistent with what I'm seeing. Three-way tie breaker is only for seeding, HCA is separate and head-to-head as you show.

Damnit.

Thought I had this figured out and all our hopes for HCA pinned on OKC beating MEM.

Oh well. Go Pellies! I believe we have head to head tie breakers vs them and OKC.

Who knows, but the head to head, tie breaker leaves room for interpretation when three teams or more are tied.
It could be singular head to head to determine the tie breaker.
or
3 teams or more finish with the same record. Therefore who ever has the better head to head record between the three teams is the higher seed.

IMO second scenario makes more logic.

Man, if one loss at MEM or DAL over the past two weeks costs us HCA, I'm gonna be so pissed.

Why? You could look at every teams schedule and say the same thing.
Over the course of the year teams lose to teams they shouldn't. Things like this happen.

Agreed... but there's a lot of scenarios where there is very little logic used.

If we lose at home to Utah, with HCA at stake, then we aren't ready to be a playoff team. Blazers will come out of this game confident, as they slaughter the hottest team in the NBA, or they will be gravely disappointed, which will hopefully lead to change. I just don't want them to sit in the middle.

It's really confusing.

Let's say #8 seed actually won its season series vs the #1 seed. Would the #8 team have HCA in that series?

Why does this reversion to h2h only apply to HCA in tiebreaker situations? Makes very little sense.
