Blazers at Thunder 2/6/09 Game Thread

Let's see.

Slow start? Check
No defense? Check
Missed FTs down the stretch? Check

Did I miss anything?

God damn, Rudy has been awful. His shot selection is just putrid. Bayless played like crap as well, Sergio outplayed him on this night. Outlaw brought us back in....and then brought us back out. Roy missed a ton of wide open layups. Terrible game. All around.

Why do you pull Oden with 4 fouls (and 2 fouls) if you are never going to let him back in anyway???

Quoted for emphasis.

"Started too late" for, what, the 20th game in a row?

Maybe it's time to change the starting lineup.

Bayless again switched and Westbrook killed us.

Aldridge has a great start to the game. Unfortunately, the team was getting blown out at the time.
I was responding to your statement that Travis was one of two players that showed up to play tonight. Obviously Roy did, obviously LA did... your math confuses me

STOMP

Because he shows little-to-no effort rebounding or playing defense? His last four games have been BRUTAL. Nate should sit his ass to try and light a fire under him.

5 days from now, I predict a blowout at the RG. And no, Blazers won't be on the receiving end.

Wow, I can't believe I'm saying this but:

Trade. Now.

It might be an overreaction, but god damn, our defense has been poop all season and it still hasn't changed.

Our players all have the tools to be strong defenders. We don't NEED a trade to improve that at all.

We just need new sets on D (or a new coach).

I just wasted 2.5 hours of my life, FUCK THIS BULLSHIT!
SHow some more fucking effort, 2 quarters of effort does not win your basketball games?
Where the FUCK were our bigs in the 4th? How the fuck do we expect to rebound with no Joel or Oden?
I am officially anti-Nate...so sick of the ball I have been seeing the last month.
The palyers deserve some blame too, its one thing to lose, but they didn't even want it tonight..a FUCKING 11 win team wanted it more than them..how pathetic is that?
We have a golden chance to put distance between us and the other 5 seeds and we are CHOKING...man we need changes.
I love these guys, but damnitt step it up

just got home but listened to the fourth quarter off and on. what the hell went wrong

This isn't even the emotion of the loss talking: We need a trade for somebody (anybody!) who's interested in playing defense ... to not have made any substantive improvements in this area after nearly 50 games is completely unacceptable for this late in the season.

We just need a good coach. Nate is absolute garbage of a coach.

Really? You think that will help the situation? We have a bunch of great prospects, getting more talented prospects isn't going to change a thing until we find a coach who can actually coach. Nate McMillan can't ask for anything more than what Pritchard has gone out and gotten him and he can't produce the results we expect. There isn't a more talented team than the Blazers, I firmly believe this. Sure, make a trade, but while you're at it make a coaching change as well. Nate is wasting away the talent these players have.

Agreed.

He just stands there like a cardboard cutout looking about as confident as a stray dog caught between lanes crossing the freeway.

Oh, come on. They started the second half going to him, he got 2 FTs and a dunk. He hacked once and they called a phantom foul on him and Nate sit his ass, which is OK, but that only makes sense if you want to let him back in at some point.

+1.

Honestly, I'm tired of this shit. Once in awhile we have an anomaly game where we play decent defense, and people start to think that we're turning over a new leaf. Well, NEWSFLASH, this team can't play shit on defense. They are bad at D at home but ABSOLUTELY FUCKING GOD DAMN BRUTAL on the road. At some point, changes just have to be made. I know Nate won't get fired, but we need someone, ANYONE that can play a lick of defense, because I'm tired of shouting at the TV screen every time we get down by 20 points in the first half.

It's not just about tools, defense is largely about effort and communication ... KP has drafted mostly offensive minded players or the ones that have defensive potential are too young. Now, is it possible that Nate isn't doing his job of getting enough out of them on D? Well there might just be something to that (and I like Nate generally).

If we have to lose, I love when we have an immediate chance for payback.

Let's see what the coaches and players learned tonight, and if they can adapt.

Bake it!

Overrated coach. I can't for the life of me understand why he's so heralded around the league. His teams in Seattle were consistently horrible on defense as well.

Our issue isn't personnel, it's coaching. We have a bunch of great individual talents and prospects that any coach would beg to have, Nate isn't utilizing it however. Trade for someone who wants to play defense? Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla want to play defense but they can't get out on the court because our coach would rather play to the opposition's strength's than our strength, which is our bigs.

Outlaw is atrocious on defense. He's a good instant offense guy off the bench (especially in the 4th), but he seems to be flat footed all the time. Same with Sergio.
