Blazers getting way too cocky

It's wasn't a smart thing to do on blazers part. Bulletin board material when we play east. Really dumb.

You say that as if we aren't already getting their best shots with the "best record in the West" target on our back. Ho. Hum.

The irony is that Portland doesn't need to be in the Eastern Conference. They are doing quite nicely in the Western Conference, thank you very much.

I love the disparity in reactions to this. LOL

I didn't mean to put this on Casey. Just flicking him some crap. Didn't mean to offend.

I stick to my original take it was a lame and harmless comment. And espn is what it is.

Did like the suns response. LOL.

Has there ever been a greater imbalance between two conferences in pro sports history? And what's not reflected is how much worse those below .500 teams would be if they actually weren't playing each other most of the time. Two winning teams....Jesus! And think of all the bad teams in the east that won't even get a lotto pick.

It's like Greece and Cambodia going against each other for nation value.

Stupid tweet by Casey considering it was from the official account. Nothing to write an article over though

Has it been confirmed that he actually authored the Tweet? I don't find anything wrong with the Tweet, anyhow.

This thread reminds me of MM's "Meyers Leonard isn't sitting with his teammates at the Hoops Summit" thread from last spring. Basically just looking for something to be negative about regarding the Blazers. I'm surprised Mixlito hasn't chimed in yet.

Anyone trying to make this joke into something other than a joke is a joke

If a tweet, which was obviously meant as a joke, is what takes teams to get excited about playing another team, that team is nothing special.

I eagerly await Canzanos piece about this, and I wonder what the response would've been during the time when Steve "Eyebrows" Patterson was running things.

I'm fine with teams trying to beat the blazers

Canzano won't write about it because it has nothing negative to do with the Oregon football program. Besides, he just had his annual "sport fan with cancer" article published last week. He's probably on vacation now. It's not easy combing the cancer wards of Portland trying to find the perfect local sports angle to publish during the holiday season. It's like the week after April 15th for him if he worked at H&R Block, I imagine.

Canzano hates the Blazers. Always has. Always will.

I'm sure the whole East really took exception to that tweet ... especially the 12 teams that are currently below .500

It was a joke. Just not a very smart one by the guy who did it, IMO

ESPN running with it sorta backs that thought process up

This ended up on Mike and Mike this morning. Both said it was total bush league. Not this in particular, but teams degrading others with their official twitter account.

Again, bigger story than some of you think. I agree, it shouldn't be, but it is

The east is fucking horrible, this is a fact.

And clearly the blazers aren't too concerned with the internet faux morality police/ outrage peddlers, which I applaud, good for them

ESPN also runs stories about pretty much any time the New York Yankees take a crap, or the Boston Red Sox sneeze.

Much ado nothing.

I can't help but wonder what the reactions would be if a team called out the Blazers on their official twitter account. This place gets it's panties in a bunch when a national writer says anything remotely negative about a player or the team.

It would be akin to a team calling out the west, nice strawman though

a FEW fans get upset when that happens.

I think most fans don't give a flip about twitter.

Not strawman. A single team called out a conference. That single team is our favorite. So if our favorite got called out is a fair question

I really disagree. Since this tweet ended up on ESPN, realGM, here and elsewhere, I think it it safe to say most fans do care (to some extent)

Its interesting

As far as caring goes, not so much

we live in a world where fans now-a-days, have short attention spans. It's why when asked by younger fans why I still hate the Lakers (despite them not winning the title in the last few seasons, and being so-so this year), I go "2000. 1991. all of the 80's" and they look at me and go "why? That was a long time ago".

In todays world, the memory is about 5 minutes. In 5 minutes, someone else will say something. Do you think the players (the only people who really can make a difference in the game) really care? And if they do, they're basically as smart as Ruben Patterson.

This is just crapbaldo fuel, as soon as they lose to an east team it will be "this was a big deal! See I told you!!1!"

Then there will be a thread about his article that nobody will read

It's my viewpoint that teams' Twitter handles are very bland and vanilla," McGowan said. "We're trying to change that up a little bit so we can engage with people differently. We probably won't be that edgy going forward because we're not there to ruffle feathers or anything like that. We are there to have a little fun. That tweet alone resulted in 3,000 new followers and four million views, which is significant. Typically on a game day we'll have four or five thousand mentions. That night we had 21,000. If you do things a little bit more different, a little bit more creatively, you can get a little bit more attention."

Team President sure does sound like he's looking to fire some people on this.
