NBA News: All Clear - C.J. McCollum escapes serious injury

After C.J. McCollum had injured his knee in the game against the San Antonio Spurs at night on Sunday, the Portland Trail Blazers now gave the all-clear after a lengthy investigation. The Guard will still have to pause for at least a week.

As the franchise has officially announced, an MRI scan has revealed that McCollum's injury is just a knee strain. When exactly the 27-year-old can return to the floor, is still uncertain. After a week he should be re-examined.

McCollum had injured in the 103:108 defeat against the Spurs in the third quarter. On a drive to the basket he was blocked by Jakob Pöltl, then he fell to the ground, landed strange and writhed in pain.

"I ended up weirdly on my foot and my knee twisted somehow, I was in a lot of pain," McCollum said after the match. At first it was feared that this could be a worse injury, fortunately for McCollum, who did not confirm the Trail Blazers.

In his sixth year in the NBA, McCollum averages 21.3 points and 4 rebounds per game this season. Portland is currently fourth in the west with 42 wins and 27 defeats, battling for home-field advantage in the first playoff round.

The Blazers do an around the world segment. It would be pretty cool if they could somehow incorporate you guys into something.
An online Q&A type thing.

I know you guys (@Almir @Labinot41 ) are just reporting reports, but i think it would be cool for a link of some sort to put you guys together somehow on a segment built around Blazers worldwide.

I lnow we have some serious Fans down unda too!!!

Blazers can do better than just posting local fans who travel.
How Bout international fans and the word of the Blazers in thier region/communities?

I really appreciate this thread but see potential for so much more global interaction.

Like the idea..I am on bussines trip, working in Court in Hague where is verdict to man who ordered genocide of my people in Bosnia, he got finally life sentence! Very tired but satisfied. As soon as i be back to Bosnia, i will write more about this nice idea...and i will now write something in Bosnian language, but sleng and fraze from my city only and will mention tonights oponents Mavericks ...'T'a ce Mavericks'...'T'a ce' is shortcut to words 'Sta ce' and it means question what somebody can do but it means in the same time answer that cannot do anything, very disparagingly to someone...

My word for tonight - T'a ce Mavericks ;)

Actually not too different from English. To challenge someone saying, "Whatcha gonna do?!" (Slang for "what are you going to do?") basically means exactly what you described.

Damian Lillard puts his hand up for Team USA at the 2020 Olympics

Dame on the Olympics:

Lillard is confident he can help claim the gold medal.

“I plan on being a part of that. I plan on playing,” Lillard said exclusively to news.com.au.

When asked about adding an Olympic medal to his trophy cabinet, Lillard was emphatic: “Definitely”.

Dame on the Trail Blazers:

“It doesn’t bother me because its always been that way. We come into the season and they say we’re the team that’s not going to make it or they never really consider us one of those teams. But at the end of the season we always are one of those teams,” Lillard said.

“Last year more than any other year was one of those years. We ended up in the WCF. For us it’s not really about what people are saying because we always come and show up. It’s almost better that they’re not expecting it to be us, that under the radar type of coming in and doing what we got to do.
“A lot of the guys that we brought in they compliment what we do and what we have. Hassan Whiteside being a lob threat, we never really had a lob threat and never had a rim protector like him. We’re going to have him for a full season and then we’ll get Nurk back later in the season.

“Kent Bazemore an experienced wing, put him out there with Rodney Hood, myself, CJ, Zach Collins, Anthony Tolliver. I mean we have so many pieces that go well together so I think it’s definitely going to be an opportunity for us.”

Hello dear Portland fans.. I do not know did you notice this, but in Bosninan media, latest news for Blazers is Nurk's tweet where he wrote that he is ready for monday but nobody knows for what is he ready? Full training, travel with the team, playing match (least possibile, i know)... anyway i am in bad mood recently, its not easy in my time zone to watch Blazers, but i have managed to watch 7 matches so far.. at 4 am... and watching bad games, no defense at all, no offense except individual quality by basicaly one man.. I really want Nurk to be back, defense is really strugling, i want to see also the only succesfull pick and roll combo in last three years - Lillard /Nurk... if you will agree with me... Do you know anything about predictions for Nurks comeback?

Interesting theory...

I wouldn't be surprised if he has a doctor's appointment. If everything looks good, he'd be authorized for 'light' basketball related a activities.

Considering he hasn't really even started - he'll have 6-8 weeks before he could even hope to be on a court in a game.

Yeah i am aware of that. I hope at least that he will start to train, light or not, but just to start.. and wait then for it. There is question also how will he play after this injury, will he be on his best or strugle... who knows. Hope for his best.

Strange, my long lost Nigerian uncle sent me the same link.

The Blazers are the biggest threat to the Lakers

After a season with lots of bad luck with injuries, the Blazers want to go back to the Conference Finals - and have upgraded for it.

Portland Trail Blazers: The Transactions

Newcomers

Draft: CJ Elleby (No. 46)

Trade: Robert Covington (Houston Rockets), Enes Kanter (Boston Celtics)

Free Agency: Derrick Jones Jr. (Miami Heat), Harry Giles (Sacramento Kings)

Departures

Trade: Trevor Ariza (Oklahoma City Thunder via Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons), Mario Hezonja (Memphis Grizzlies)

Free Agency: Jaylen Adams (Milwaukee Bucks), Hassan Whiteside (Kings), Wenyen Gabriel (New Orleans Pelicans), Jaylen Hoard, Caleb Swanigan

Portland Trail Blazers: The Strategy

Damian Lillard has reached the prime of his career, which the Blazers want to make the most of. Hardly any superstar is as loyal as the playmaker, so that Portland was almost obliged to improve the team in the summer. And that was quite successful, some weak points were selectively improved.
The almost chronic problem on the wing was specifically addressed, with Derrick Jones Jr. and Robert Covington coming variable forwards that defend well and have the three in the arsenal. This has always been the big problem since Wesley Matthews and Nicolas Batum left a few years ago, and now there is even the possibility of getting a Carmelo Anthony off the bench.

It is just as important that Jusuf Nurkic and Rodney Hood are available again. Both were absent for large parts of the season due to serious injuries and give the team depth and quality. Two years ago the Blazers showed that they are also good for a participation in the Conference Finals in the West, this year the grapes should not hang any less high.

The weak points:

The wing positions have been improved, but a litter specialist like Duncan Robinson or J.J. Redick. Instead, there are some shooters who run hot, but can also cool down damn quickly. Gary Trent Jr. may take on this role, the ex-Duke Guard hit 41.8 percent last season. Time will tell if he's really that good or just had a hot phase.
As good as the squad is at the top, it also falls dramatically in some places. Behind Lillard, the Blazers again trust Anfernee Simons, who was overwhelmed with this role last year. McCollum may have to help out here again. The Blazers are also hit hard by the failure of Zach Collins, so coach Terry Stotts has to rely on Enes Kanter more than he would like.

The bearer of hope:

He's been the same for a good seven years and goes by the name of Damian Lillard. There are arguments that the 30-year-old is the best guard in the NBA at the moment. There was plenty of visual material in the bubble when Lillard heaved the Blazers almost single-handedly into the playoffs.
With an improved Blazers roster, the All-Star will get more breaks and then be fresher in the crucial phase of the season than he was in Orlando when he injured himself on the series with the Los Angeles Lakers. His loyalty to Portland may make him the best blazer in history - honoring Hall of Famer Bill Walton and Clyde Drexler.

The bottom line:

Last season the Blazers were always good for a surprise with a formidable Lillard, now the vulnerable defense has been significantly improved and (almost) all injured players are back. Portland will have a big say about the places behind the L.A. teams.
In Lillard, Portland may have the best (crunchtime) player out of the pursuers. If Covington or Jones also help as desired, then the Blazers can definitely be located in the expanded field of pursuers.

Forecast: 1st place in the Northwest Division.
