Greg plays scared. He's even second guessing himself on dunks! It's a little concerning.

Przybilla should be starting.

ESPN is a slave to the big markets, no matter how pathetic their teams may be.
all national media is a slave to whatever generates the most viewers and that will probably never be a small market West coast team. It's not a matter of being fair, it's about money

Good solid, persevering road win for the guys tonight. I've been trying to figure it out all night but still can't figure out how the hell David Lee played circles around our boy Greg!?!?!?

Holy crap, you get down on anyone who has a bad game, and you get down on them FAST. The difference between Joel and Oden tonight was minutes....and two missed dunks. Oden played perfectly fine.

IMO, Batum had a more questionable appearance than Oden did, but it's fine, it's only one game.

I can't wait to see what happens when Roy has a down game.

Wow, watching ESPNews...they tease the Portland-New York highlights with "And coming up, going to Broadway...where the high-flying Knicks throw down with the Portland Trailblazers" with a montage of assorted Knicks highlights from the season.

Considering Portland is the far better team, is considered the far more talented team for the future and won the game, that's pretty absurd.

I can point to any stats, but I think that shows just big of a market NY is . . .

I do agree Joel is playing better then Oden but I also think Oden is playing better. I think if the Blazers are ever going to be a championship team we need Oden to be playing at a high level and we need to play Oden as much as possible. So, I would start Oden and bring Joel off the bench. We still are winning with Oden starting and I don't think starting Joel will really help us win anymore games.

HAHAHAHA!! I suck!

Yeah I didn't mean to call him a pig, that's for sure! Good defense and some nice shots down the stretch there.

Actually, "the filthy" is a pretty badass nickname.

I used to compare Duhon to Blake back when he was a draft prospect... I still think it holds. Not great athletes by NBA standards, but both play within their abilities, take care of the ball, and possess good all around skills. Both are long, smart, and pretty decent team defenders. Classic overachievers.

I remember arguing with some homer Blazer fan on BBF about Duhon v. Telfair. It almost doesn't seem fair now, even given that Duhon hasn't lit the league on fire...

People playing scared don't get 2 blocks, 7 boards and 0 turnovers in 19 minutes. Greg Blew some point blank jams, so he clearly didn't have a good offensive night, but I thought he looked OK. I have a feeling Nate knew things could get way out of hand playing rat ball and so he inserted his 7'1" veteran in there to take control of the paint; someone who wouldn't get confused by D'Antoni's voodoo ball, and I think he made the right call.

It went both ways. I felt like Roy would get hammered, no call, and then NY would drive downcourt, get fouled, and a makeup non-call.

Agreed. Roy got fouled a couple of times and Rudy was clearly fouled at least once on a drive... but the Knicks were hammered a couple of times, also.

Not good officiating, but at least not terribly uneven.

But I did see multiple times when he should have come over for help defense and instead just stood there. The big difference between his game right now, and that of Joel and David Lee is quickness and being able to move laterally and jump quicker and higher. I'm sure it'll come with time, but I have to admit that Joel does look better on most nights lately. That's not a horrible thing, considering how well Joel's playing.

Oden intimidates in a way that Joel does not. Detroit barely was willing to go into the key last game, and tonight we saw the Knicks continue to attack Joel. It's not Joel's fault, but even when he puts up similar defensive numbers in terms of blocks and rebounds I still think that Oden has a more positive impact.

It might be six of one and a half dozen of the other at this point, though, given how well both (and the team) are playing.

Priz 26 minutes
GO 19 minutes

Blazers are 5-0 since Greg has started and Joel has gotten equal or more minutes. So why the hell do we care who starts?

I agree about the intimidation factor, the national media is good for something. And there's no doubt that Greg gets a lot more attention when he touches the ball offensively than Joel does, which frees up other players. I just think as far as quickness, hops, and movement go, he's still being held back by his injury enough that Joel is able to do other things that he can't, yet.

You know how Stern pushes the sports entertainment angle with the league? I truly believe that NBA refs won't let the home team get blown out. It's totally predictable that if the road team jumps out to an early lead, some of their better players will get into foul trouble and allow the home team back in. It's bad business for the customers to leave upset. The road club just needs to hang around until the 4th. Thats when it's winning time. The customers haven't had their favorite club embarrassed and the calls seem to even out.

So to answer your question, yes I got the same feeling.

Good points! After thinking about it and reading the rest of the thread it's pretty clear that I feel the same way others do that no matter how the team is playing or where they are in the game they always are still in it and can take over at any point. Haven't felt that way for some time. It's awesome.

I thought Oden showed some of his best footwork tonight on defense. He was able to stay with Duhon and force him into some crazy hard shots while not fouling. (Too bad Duhon made the circus shot) And just 2 fouls tonight in 19 minutes. He usually has 3-4 by then.

For as crappy as we shot all night (especially from 3)...we ended up above our average at 42.3%. Wouldn't have thunk it from just watching the game. Rudy going 4-6 and Blake at 4-8 helped a bunch.

Man, As good as Blake was offensively, he sure sucked on defense tonight. Duhon torched him. I've never seen Blake have so much trouble staying in front of someone. Sergio actually seemed to do better guarding Duhon. I would have loved to see how Bayless would have done against Duhon on the perimeter.

Also, Aldridge quietly had a very good night: 17 points (7/12 shooting), 6 rebounds and a blocked shot in 28 minutes. Portland needed it. Very encouraging to see Aldridge getting it going.

From the Yahoo game recap:

"The Spanish rookie, greeted by chants of 'Rudy!' when he first checked in"

That seems rather strange, on the road in New York. Were there a lot of Trailblazer fans in the Garden, or is Rudy already that popular around the league? Or is there a third possible explanation I'm missing? Big Spanish-ancestry population in New York?

I think Wheels and Tone mentioned in their postgame that Rudy picked up the wrong headphones and was supposed to do an interview with them, and LaMarcus was supposed to go to the NBA TV headphones. And they kind of ragged on him a bit for being a rookie, and not knowing what to do yet.

Still, he did his best and looked pretty comfortable, or as much as he can. I too would like to hear about Rudy's upbringing into basketball and how he developed his game as a kid.

the Knicks feed kept showing fans in Spain jerseys.

Przy dominated.

Greg was embarrassing.

Brandon is a superstar.

Rudy is streaky but is fun to watch.

Blake was solid on the offensive end. Though, Duhon torched him the entire game.

Gutsy win.

Well put.

This is the first time Joel has missed two shots in a game since the first game of the season.

Just saw the MSG telecast, and they were gushing about Roy all game long, and in the end compared him to Oscar Robertson and Clyde Frazier.. pretty good company there. Of course one of the guys was Clyde, and the other Mike Breen.

But they really praised Outlaw's contributions off the bench or as Clyde said, he was "percolating", and said we were one of the best teams in the NBA.
And they praised Joel a lot, called him one of the best backup Cs in the league and does everything you want a backup to do.
Good to hear good stuff from the other guys.

A lot of Spanish people at the Garden. I actually saw some with flags.

It happened last year with the guy on the Grizzlies whose name I'm forgetting.
