A good example is people downplaying a comparison between Wiggins and Jordan by pointing out Jordans success as a Junior compared to Wiggins as a Freshman. No before people guffaw, I am not saying I expect Wiggins to be of that level... Just pointing out the comparison.
As a freshman Jordan
31mpg
13.5ppg
4.4rpg
1.8apg
0.2bpg
1.2spg
Wiggins
32.8 mpg
17.1 ppg
5.9 rpg
1.5 apg
1.0 bpg
1.2 spg
Statistically very comparable, edge goes to Wiggins actually... And he was also playing on a loaded team BTW. Of course you can't just go by stats (see Adam Morrison). This is where GM's and scouts differ from fans.
Comparing a freshman playing under Dean Smith in an era where players rarely left college after 3 years, let alone one year, to a one-and-done player like Wiggins doesn't really mean much to me.
Tyler Hansbrough averaged 18/8 and shot 57% as a freshmen. Did that make him Karl Malone in the NBA?
Some other great freshman seasons.
Kenny Anderson, Georgia Tech
Key Statistics: 20.6 ppg, 8.1 apg, 5.5 rpg, 51.5 FG percentage, 41.0 3-point FG percentage
Wayman Tisdale, Oklahoma
Key Statistics: 24.5 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 2.5 bpg, 58 percent FG percentage
Chris Jackson, LSU
Key Statistics: 30.2 ppg, 4.1 apg, 49 percent FG percentage
None of these players ended up better than Jordan.
