The bench is marginally better than last year. Hence my "+"

What were you guys expecting this off-season? LeBron to come walking throught that door?

C-

Kaman is meh but is better than Freeland and Leonard

Blake is terrible

The Blazers didn't get better

A+ for not being dumb like a lot of other teams and signing average player "A" to a terrible contract.

If we had the cash, I bet the Blazers would have mad a terrible signing.

Honestly, I don't think anyone expected any large moved with next years cap flexibility looming.

B-

I guess I didn't get the memo where July 10 is both the beginning and end date for off-season moves.

A trade (like last year)? A signing of a player for less than they were expected to receive (like last year)? A player choosing us over someone else (like last year)?

I put it at a D. Mo & Blake are about equal. I don't like giving Kaman that much money & limiting the flexibility.

Don't see the team being better or worse. The D is because I think there were missed opportunities to do something better.

Blazers have used up both their exceptions & have 15 players under contract. Portland is done unless it is cutting Claver & signing a vet minimum.... So they ARE done for this off-season.

I give it a C+ because it was about all we could realistically do, what I would like to see is a trade of 2 or 3 of our bench guys for a player like Thad Young or a Henson from the Bucks.

Have you heard of a thing called a "trade"? I'd be surprised if the Blazers don't make an additional move to improve the backup SF spot over Wright.

I'd give it a D but neither Kaman or Blake play it

oOoOoOoOoOoOoooooooooooooo

Are we trying to catch the Twolves for the team with the most white guys? :)

For the Blazers to get better

That didn't happen

Yea yea yea, we heard the same story last year.

"Marginally?" We got a former All-Star Center and a PG who actually is one, addressing two of our most glaring deficiencies. Both with very reasonable and flexible contracts I might add.

We addressed needs. All we had to work with was the MLE and BAE. Obviously there were sexier options out there than Blake and Kaman, but they're solid guys. They're not flashy, but they get the job done. These are the kinds of moves that the Spurs make on a consistent basis. They bring in vets who know how to play and don't make waves.

Obviously the grade is incomplete because the offseason is over, but right now I'd give Neil a B-.

I love everything Olshey is doing. You guys were all pissed with getting T Rob and Lopez last summer.

Sometimes you don't need to make a big splash to have a dramatic improvement.

Our bench was horrible... No one that we could trust to run the offense or score down low. We added 2 players that can help stabilize our youth. If our bench improves just 5 points a game, we would be light years better than last year.

I really think that some people are underestimating what having a legit center who can score is going to bring to the second unit. Kaman is going to help that group way more than his individual stats may show.

Blake may not have the quickness or ability to get to the hole like Mo did, but he's not going to be the ball-stopper on offense that Mo was either. I'm not going to have to yell at the TV over nearly as many "what-the-hell" plays as Mo would make either. Also, I think that this means way more opportunity for CJ to get playing time with Lillard. I don't think you'll see Blake getting minutes with the starters the way that Mo did.

Two grades:

1. The relative grade that judges them based on the amount of bullets they had in their clip: C+
Pretty average quality players for the money, but they didn't do anything financially stupid or crippling.

2. The absolute grade that judges them compared to the rest of the league: D
Did they gain ground against the Spurs, Rockets, Clippers, et al. And did they hold off the other teams chasing them? I don't know about that ...

EDIT: Forgot to add that I have to dock them a bit because they weren't able/willing to add talent through the draft.

If Kaman plays 60 games he will get a C right now probably a solid D-

Neil said he was done in the press conference. Said he will always look at potential upgrades but is now out of roster spots and is done with FA.

I'm not really sure what people were expecting. Neil tried. At the start of the free agent period he reached out to guys like Hawes, Pierce, Carter, etc. We only had the MLE and BAE. They didn't want to come here. :dunno:

Just look at Dallas now

Most likely

Harris
Ellis
Parsons
Dirk
Chandler

Dallas is now better than Portland imo
