Gee, if I took a whole year off from my job to "rehab" after a knee injury, my company wouldn't consider it "work"--and I certainly wouldn't get paid for it.

I fell at work and I was paid while I was off rehabbing.

Right now we'd have his Bird rights. We don't know what it'll be under the new CBA.

No one, really. It was a rookie scale contract, he was the number 1 pick in the draft and paid accordingly. Any negotiating was part of the previous CBA. That's when the rookie pay scale was set. I'm sure you know that and assume you were just trying to be facetious.

While that's true at face value, all of the recent CBA discussions have talked about a phase-in period. I can't imagine the owners pushing for a CBA that doesn't give them time to plan for a hard cap or a flex cap. They'd really be shooting themselves in the foot if they did.

Next next step? Greg will receive offers, including one or more from Portland. If he agrees to any of the terms - we can match that contract and he'll stay with us.
He could also accept the QO, collect his 8.8M, play next season in PDX, and then become a UFA.

I'm not worried. We can offer him the most, and we have the most to lose/gain. We almost assuredly get another season from him before he can choose to go anywhere else.

Anyway, I hope they are right and I hope that Oden can finally start realizing his amazing potential. Nothing would make me happier.

I think the biggest mystery is what efforts are Greg and the team making to try and prevent injuries from happening in the future? I still havent heard anything specific from the team and would hope it's something they're actively and aggressively pursuing, instead of just treating the current injury and hoping something like it doesnt happen again.

Suke and Issac interviewed an orthopedic expert 5-6 months ago, and he speculated Greg's injury issues had to do with the leg difference, his bad posture, and core strength concerns. I'd be much more reassured, if the team said something regarding a strategy they are using going forward toward prevention.

Since Portland has tendered a QO to Greg , they are now free to negotiate a long term deal with him.

Well, they're not free to do that until there is a free-agency period. The Q.O. or a max contract had to be offered by today, but no other negotiations can now take place until the FA period begins after the lock-out.

Greg Oden is not as good of a FA as Kwame Brown? Granted, the person who wrote this didn't even want to go on record with their name. I think I would put him somewhere in the top 10. Definitely Top 15. For the Blazers he is probably top 5. They have no other good Center options except for Aldridge (if he is a C) and Camby (who is very long in the tooth).
