Have to wait longer then that...contracts can't be signed until the 10th and then 3 days after that for them to match. What will be interesting will be the details of the offer. Will Portland try to be creative with the structure to make it harder for Indiana to match. They can offer a lot of cash up front, near $18 million up front.

It's than, it's different.

On another note, has anyone thought about what you'd send away in a S&T for Hibbert? If KP says "we'll match unless you pony up (X)", what would you give up? Obviously any of the Smith/Babbitt/Thomas group, but would you give up Wes? Leonard? EWill? We can't give future firsts.

We keep talking S&T for Batum to get back assets, but what about Hibbert?

Yes I have thought about it. I think the most likely scenario is that Indiana will match and then negotiate a sign and trade. I expect Myers Leonard would be the principle piece in the trade. I believe Olshey also expects this scenario; I think this is what he was talking about when he said we couldn't really judge the draft until mid July. He is counting on Indiana not really wanting to pay that salary so he is not expecting to have to give up too much and will surely try to send Shawne Williams contract back. It should be a great battle of wills between Olshey and Pritchard to see who blinks on this.

@RicBucher

Sources: Chris Kaman visits with Pacers tomorrow. Solid, affordable alternative to suddenly über-pricy Roy Hibbert.

@JonesOnTheNBA @Hoopdata Per the league's BRI forecast it'd be around $61.8M. But big error bars on that estimate right now.

I thought that was for 13-14

How did Hollinger get 13.7M for the start of Roy's "max"? That would assume a 54.8M salary cap, no? I haven't heard anything to say it's projected to go DOWN by 4M. Anyone?

EDIT: Found it in the BRI calcs of the new CBA. Max at 58.044M is ~12.9. Hollinger's 13.7 must assume a cap of ~61M

Well I'm not really sure, maybe it has something to do with this:

Clarification on Year 3 of Asik's contract -- it can actually be as high as $14,898,938. They built a one-time bump into the max salaries

Maybe they want max salaries to slightly increase just a mil or so even if the cap is staying about the same. I think I heard something about this before...

except that for their careers thus far brook lopez has higher per game marks in... (deep breath)....points, offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, ft percentage, shooting percentage, free throw attempts, steals, less fouls, and tied in blocks and assists, most of those likely to do with the fact he has played 10 mpg more thus far (guess you cant produce when you arent on the floor)

in fact the one and only category that brook falls to hibbert in is turnovers 2.1pg to 1.7pg

oh and a much higher PER, more win shares, and a higher ws/48

thanks for pointing out whatever you were pointing out though

Lopez has done that as the guy for the Nets. A lousy Nets team at that. Hibbert's never been the guy, his teams have always been solid.

I personally hate Lopez game. A jump shooting, soft, injury prone big who's fallen in love with the elbow jumper and the worst rebounding 7footer I've ever seen. He's a horrible fit next to Aldridge.

Man with these new meds we seem to agree a lot more than before.

One question I have is that if Pacers match what do we do next? I do think odds are 60/40 they do match. Do we go after a Hawes or kamam of someone else? Also our capspace would dwindle sigificantly if we match a Nicoffer, if he signs for 11 mil our capspace goes down roughly to 10-11 mil. So what is Plan B?

Move on.

LOL Cap'n obvious! Now he asks - move on to who or what's left?

Oh, you wanted specifics?

Well, if Hibbert falls through, we will then either

A. Have Batum's 11-12 million dollar salary on our books, leaving us with 9ish million to spend?

B. Let Batum walk and have 22ish million to spend

C. S&T the Frenchy

So specifics get thrown out the window until I know what they plan to do with Nic

If it were me, I would let him walk, and sign Beasley, or someone like that, and target a SF via lopsided trade at the deadline, and or through the draft or FA next summer

I agree on Frenchy, if Minny wants to offer him close to 12 mil per then adios, though if possible I would like to try to S&T so we get some value back. For me if we don't get Hibbert then it's likely back to a much slower rebuild and why pay Nic that much under those circumstances?

In a perfect world we could convince them to trade us Williams for Batum and a future first

the only important part

I personally think the foot issues are important as well, don't you?

What about Robin Lopez? Probably not the best fit with Aldridge, but maybe a decent option if Hibbert isn't signed?

i think robin lopez is a better fit than hibbert almost, a hustle/rebound guy to do what LMA doesnt

Other FA bigs that would be a good fit next to Aldridge could be

Hawes
Thomson
R. Lopez
Alabi

Guys we might be able to trade for?
Gortat
Koufos

Potential amnesty guys that could be a fit?
Blatch

I think Thompson is interesting, with Sac drafting Trob and having Cousins and signing the little C from HOU last yr (can't remember his name) they might not match

DL for lillard

nards for leonard

for the win

Since DL in baseball is "disabled list" for injured players no way do I want it as a Blazers nickname. Talk about tempting fate!

Back to the offer. I am a tad suprised. Roy is not on the level of the recent dominant centers (Shaq, Hakeem, David Robinson, Ewing) or Dwight Howard. I did not expect all the eggs in this basket. But it could be a case, as others said, of overpaying, although Indiana is a small market and Portland is a lot warmer in the winter. But maybe it's a case of the law of conservation of Roys. Notice when the Blazers were Royless they were in the lottery.

BTW I had a high school friend I nicknamed "Lily" as a contraction of his last name. As soon as he graduated he came out. I'm sure not because of the nickname!

He has a nice PER, and his per 36 numbers of 13/10 would be a nice fit for the money

Chris Broussard, ahh, getting my hopes up, on ESPN radio said he thinks Indiana won't match
