Joe Freeman is going to be on the Fan on Comcast pretty dang soon. We will see what he has to say...

Freeman is the worst fluff writer on the Oregonian sports staff. The next story he breaks will be his first.

DONT TRADE ODEN!!!!

fuckkk people

He's got to go if we get Paul. It really is not that hard to grasp. If you don't want to trade him for Paul, that is fine, but Oden will have to go if a trade is complete.

Paul is begging to get out of NO, the Blazers have plenty of pieces (and money) to make it happen; at this point, if we fail to land Paul and keep the core players while doing so, then I have to say the new front office will have failed in their first big test. This seems like a lay-up, and deals shouldn't get much easier other than the names attached to it. If it takes Batum to get Paul, you have to make that deal.

Git 'er dun!

Acquiring a superstar is never a "lay-up".

I get the sense, for some reason, that the post you quoted had an agenda. :)

I could be incorrect, of course.

Link on the "never"? This seems close to one for me. All Portland has to do is decide what they want to give up for Paul.

Actually NO has to decide that they really want to trade him ... certainly not a given at this point.

Yep. NO could convince Paul to give them one more year, or even to the Trade Deadline.

Or, an unnamed darkhorse team, could make some bold pre-move that makes their offer so attractive to NO, and makes their roster so appealing to Paul that he goes there.

This is no lay-up. This is still a ways off from being a sure-thing.

That's ridiculous. The Blazers can make the best offer for Paul without offering Oden.

No they cannot. I know we all think Batum is Pippen, but he is not a centerpiece to any deal. Rudy pretty much has negative value, and who knows if they value Bayless at all. The expiring contracts are nice, but the Knicks offer of Randolph, Galinari, and Chandler is better then Batum, Rudy, and Bayless.

That's a push in my opinion. Really, I think you are vastly overrating Oden's trade value; his injury history and inability to stay on the court don't make him particularly attractive.

I see the Blazers offering Przybilla, Miller, and Batum. Maybe you throw in Rudy or Bayless as well. That is definitely better than the Knicks offer.

Maybe, but then you factor in that Knicks are an Eastern conference team and if the Hornets view the deals as a push, guess who they will trade him to. Are we not overrating Batum's value to the point where he is the centerpiece to get a top 5 player? Hornets want young talent, Rudy is not totally young and at this point, doesn't seem all that talented, and Bayless is a combo guard, do they need or want that? So it is Batum and the expiring contracts against the Knicks expirings and those two or three guys.

Randolph just got traded to the Knicks so he can not be traded with any other player until later this year I believe. So he would be out of any trade with New York IMO.

They probably laugh at that deal and then remind the Blazers who exactly they are trying to trade for.

Edit: Fail on my part

NO in the west. That will NEVER fit in my head

Well someone was saying since the Knicks are under the cap, they can do that. Don't remember who said it, though.

Not the Knicks.

Phew so we don't need to include Oden.

That was fun.

Aren't you supposed to be questioning how we are in bad hands and that management won't get anything done?

Also, and while I am no CBA expert isn't there only a 48 hour window to trade a player that you yourself just acquired in a trade? If so, I can't imagine Randolph being included in any trade in the near future. Also, I do not believe that you can just trade Randolph and cap room to NO since that is combination trade as well. Randolph, I believe can not be moved at this time.

I am no CBA expert either, so I have no idea how it works.

i still don't think you trade batum and oden for cp3, who may bolt after 2 years and one of those years may be mirred by a workstoppage.

Likely they do.

Productive, young, cheap bench player. That has value to them since they have no bench to speak of.

Like I said before, Collison, Thorton, Batum, West, with Bayless the combo-guard/backup PG off the bench is a solid start. Add defender/rebounder Center, stir in Monty coaching and that team doesn't completely suck like Minny bad. At least they compete. And they can develop the young guys while doing it. That is how rebuilding works.

No reason to throw Oden into the mix. I love Batum but i'd throw him in a trade for CP3 but I do not want to see Oden traded for CP3. I think CP3 will make a healthy Oden into a superstar and will be the biggest player to get better with CP3 on the team (if Oden stays healthy). That and I think Oden being healthy puts us in contention without CP3 on the team.

You're a bit confused. No offense. :)

See the first bullet in that section, and the sentence about how it only applies to teams over the cap. The Knicks aren't, so it doesn't.

The 48 hours thing has to do with a sign-and-trade. See the note on Danny Manning at the end of that section.

K we will see with the Hornets go with. I am sure Blazer management won't part with Oden anyway, which is fine, but we will see what trade proposal they prefer if they even trade Paul at all. Our chances lower without involving Oden. I am not suggesting he has massive trade value, but he is young, fills a position of need for them, great potential, and small contract for now and you pair him with Batum then it gets more thought by the Hornets.

Edit: I know how rebuilding works. I am guessing they would not like to rebuild with a potential stud in Oden, either... Wait.
