Aldridge is the first player in franchise history to score 36 or more in three straight games.

Dang. I would've thought Drexler would have done it at some point.

He's just so unstoppable lately. The only time he's not destroying other teams is when we can't get him the ball.

What's shocking to me is that he's getting better. When he was playing really well at the end of December and start of January, I was hoping he'd keep it up and not regress to his previous mean. Instead, his performances seem like they're becoming even more dominating.

At this pace of improvement, he'll be at 57 PPG and 5.3 RPG (just kidding, love ya LMA) by the end of the season.

I could see Aldridge making all-NBA 3rd team if he keeps up this body of work.

giving any weight at all to defense he's been the best PF in the league over the last 2 months. if he keeps this up for the duration he'll deserve to be 2nd team at worst. i've never paid attention to how political the sportswriter voting is. it might be possible that missing the all-star game will actually help him.

If his new baseline really is around 26/10, plus pretty good defense, he could become an MVP candidate in the coming years.

You got me curious, so there went another half-hour.

The record for points in 3 consecutive games, back to 1986-87

116 Clyde Drexler...Dec. 20-23 1988...43, 38, 35
115 LaMarcus Aldridge...Feb. 7-13 2011...42, 37, 36
109 Kiki Vandeweghe...Dec. 9-12 1986...40, 31, 38
109 Rasheed Wallace...Feb. 20-24 2001...42, 32, 35

I saw some interesting 4-game totals, too, but that's another day.

Updated, I quit, this is all, I'm sorry I EVER got into this.

119 Brandon Roy...Dec. 12-18 2008...38, 29, 52
116 Clyde Drexler...Dec. 20-23 1988...43, 38, 35
116 Clyde Drexler...Nov. 24-29 1991...48, 30, 38
115 LaMarcus Aldridge...Feb. 7-13 2011...42, 37, 36
109 Kiki Vandeweghe...Dec. 9-12 1986...40, 31, 38
109 Clyde Drexler...Nov. 22-26 1991...31,48, 30
109 Rasheed Wallace...Feb. 20-24 2001...42, 32, 35
108 Clyde Drexler...Jan. 4-7 1989...33, 50, 25

Appreciate it!! End of story!!

I don't think I missed something but I might have, but that's it, folks!!

Yeesh. Roy still king.

BRoy's a beast. I love these kinds of random, obscure stats.

Good work, jlprk.

The logical side of my brain wants to keep checking. I checked only individual games over 43, and only 3-game streaks in which every game was at least 30.

For all you matrix wizards, and I know there are plenty on this here genius board, how about a 3-D graph. The x-axis constraint is under 44, the y-axis is under 30, x+y+z is at least 108, and solve for z and then find a 3-game streak like that.

Now that I wrote down the problem, I can relieve my mind of it and stop thinking about it. Freud called it catharsis.

Finish the problem....

I use basketball-reference streak finder, but it's inefficient for this. With the minimum total at 108, there could be a streak I didn't check for of (less than 30, less than 44, third game). Using that as a template, there are 20 permutations for which to search.

exact..exact..minimum

29 43 36
29 42 37
29 41 38
29 40 39
28 43 37

28 40 40
27 43 38
27 42 39
27 41 40
26 43 39
26 42 40
26 41 41
25 43 40
25 42 41
24 43 41
24 42 42
23 43 42
22 43 43

Why are you using less than 30 and less than 44 as constraints?

Love the fact that the "Nightly Notable" on NBA goes to blake griffin for scoring 25 and grabbing 13 boards while leading his team to a loss while Aldridge again puts up a huge scoring night on a win for the blazers and no love for him. I'm getting the feeling they really don't want to mention any all star snubs on there.

Probably because LA only got 4 rebounds.

Sorry, I just now checked the board. Because those are the remaining games I haven't checked. I did the easy part, walked away, but drew back to doing the hard part too. I did a quick fairly complete job, and found maybe 95% of them, but then my perfectionist side got interested, so I'm doing the rest. I just found this close call.

107 Clyde Drexler...Feb. 23-26 1988...29, 36, 42

Same record as last year, but this season we've played after tomorrow night 5 more road games.

Done and I won't bother anyone any more (about this only, don't get your hopes up). There aren't any more to list if the minimum total is 107.

My remaining method was to look for a 2-game streak, between 35 and 43 points. I saw anecdotal 101s and 104s but didn't look systematically for all of those, so didn't put the randomly-found ones on the list.

Now factor in pace...

Given how slowly we play, Aldridge's stretch of play is even more impressive, even if our pace may be up a bit from the beginning of the season.

I wonder what our pace has been the last 4 games?
