Blazers Play-in Thread

Blazers win or Clippers loss and Blazers are 8th.

Seems extremely likely Blazers win against tanking Kings.

In that case Tuesday Blazers would play at Phoenix, winner is 7th seed against the Spurs. Loser plays Friday.

Clippers Warriors would play Wednesday, winner plays Friday loser goes home.

Winner of Friday game plays OKC as 8th seed Sunday. Loser goes home.

For those who want to make the playoffs, who are we rooting for between the Clippers and the Warriors?
Do we want to face a team we have beaten twice in two weeks, or a team with some savvy vets who could rise to the occasion?
If the Warriors beat the Clippers in LA, they might be the harder team to beat. I think I fear them a little more at this point in the season.

The Lakers have the tie-breaker with the Nuggets. The Nuggets lead the Lakers by one game.
So the Nuggets need to beat the Spurs in San Antonio or pray the Lakers lose to the Jazz in Los Angeles to secure the 3rd seed.
the AI is wrong about the West Play-in Seeding

Phoenix is 7th in the play-in

the 8th/9th slots are still TBD but Blazers have a commanding advantage over Clippers and are heavy favorites over the Kings

Typically, using thier feet, everything stands on the ground or a relative flat surface. My coffee table stands on a rug.
Im standing on the floor in my kitchen. My tree stands tall in the front yard.
Im sure i am missing some things. Everything is alot of things.
A hot dog stand stands by its wheels.

And what about people who do hand stands? They stand on their hands!

I just looked at standings. The Kings definitely want to lose this game. Might not make a difference but if the Jazz screw up and win (See Anfernee Simons a few years back) they can move down to 15th seed and #4 in lottery position.
The Blazers will win today. Might as well put money on that.

Kings have 8 players out ... DeRozan, LaVine, Sabonis, Murray, Westbrook, Monk, Hunter, Eubanks. I don't see how the Blazers lose this. But, they better come ready.

They could sleep walk this game and win. There is no way the Kings will be stupid enough to slip up and win this. The Jazz play the Lakers. The Lakers are trying to stay in front of Houston. If the Jazz somehow screw up and win that game (another virtual impossibility) the Kings could move down.
The thing is the Rockets are not losing to the Grizzlies. So the Lakers will be playing to win that game.
Memphis wants to lose to try to move below Dallas so pretty much this entire day is already set. The teams that want to win are playing teams that want to lose.

Well I'm hoping we beat Phoenix and don't face either.

I'd be happy to beat either though- all the years of GS destroying us in the playoffs would be nice to pay back.

But also the Clippers - would be great to send them home with three embarrassing losses in a few weeks.

Statistically I'd probably give us higher odds to beat the Warriors. We destroyed them earlier this season. Without Butler they just don't have the talent. But Steph can go off more than anyone on either team, who knows.

That kind of just leads to the Blazers being sent home with four embarrassing losses in a row but yeah I get it. At this point they might as well try to win a game or two.

Kings will want to lose either way.

If lottery teams have tied record they flip coin for who gets the higher pick - and they split the ping pong balls. Theres no head to head tie breaker that moves a team in front of the other as with the playoffs.

Even if Jazz win - Kings loss would get them more ping pong balls. If Jazz lose then Kings need to lose just to stay even in odds or the Jazz will jump them.

The only thing is the Kings have sucked for so many decades they might just not care to worry about tanking any more. But in terms of lottery odds - a loss is 100% better for them.

The game vs Phoenix is already scheduled, so maybe there should be a thread about it?

Tuesday at 7pm.

I think we can assume the Blazers will win today.

The seeding matters. 4th overall vs 5th overall.

Definitely want our draft pick this year so rooting for straight losses. This is the best draft in about 24 years and so it would be absolutely insane to give even a mid round pick up for a 0-4 drubbing by OKC or Spurs. The Spurs of course being the seed they are by tanking for a generational talent plus Castle…again.

Exactly. Getting obliterated in the first round vs. a mid round to ~9.7% chance at top 3 in the best draft class since 2003. Gee what makes more sense?

Insane we brought back Shaedon in a MUST LOSE game against LAC. And should have pulled Deni.

Management wants a decade of mediocrity and to use up all of Deni’s prime when OKC and Spurs both have UNrimited young talent. Absolute retardation. Assuming a championship is the goal which maybe isn’t their goal. If its not well, thats no way to run a team. A single championship run is worth 15 years of modest sales.

I won't shed any tears if we lose both games in the playin. A first-round pick is always nice to have for depth. But nobody in the 14 range would start for the Blazers for the next few years.

I never bet sports because I’m just not built for sports betting but
Right now Blazers are -110.
So if I put $11,000 on the Blazers to win I make $10,000.
Pretty easy money.
