Blazers Press Conference announcing new coach 6-29-2021

Did you not read the rest? This is common practice. I'm not saying it's Chauncey, I'm saying any PR people would insist on it.

And the reason they would insist is because it instantly makes the accused look sympathetic and the press look like assholes. Your reaction is a PR-company's wet dream.

Saying that 4 black females are attending this because the team directed them to is something out of Tarantino's Django. It hints that these girls and their mom aren't capable of exercising free will or sharing in what was supposed to be a celebration and welcoming party for them and their dad/father......NOT A GOOD LOOK PEOPLE! I'm embarrassed for those ladies and Chauncey that they had to go through this gauntlet of doubt and suspicion to get a media green light as members of the community...fuck those reporters...I mean really...fuck them
Wow. Once again, have you not seen ANY press conferences where politicians confront sex scandals?

So, you're saying we should all pretend there hasn't been a massive furor about this hiring and that there wouldn't be questions about this? We're supposed to pretend this is a NORMAL scandal-free press conference?

human shield? you think billups brought them as a prop?

this is the kinda shit that makes me scream about racial undertones with this stuff. You're not gonna say that about any other white guy in this position-- i guarantee that.

This man just got one of 30 high profile jobs in the world, something he admitted has been his DREAM. He wanted to share it with his family.

Fuck off with this shield bullshit.

Man..... am I the only one who works in a corporation and understands how corporations think?

I get it, this is Chauncey's dream and he wants his family there, but I still think this entire press conference was carefully planned because of the backlash. I was once told that my team couldn't put out a recipe book because the company has an official recipe book and it might ruffle feathers. A FUCKING RECIPE BOOK. I mean, come on.... corporations are all about optics. I can promise you that there was a discussion a long time before this press conference ever took place about how to deal with the questions about his past and how the organization wanted to present itself. Neil was clearly reading off a card during his open remarks to be sure that what he was saying was in line with what the company wanted to say.

CJ and RoCo didn't just show up. I am sure that those two players were specifically asked to be there. It would have been hilarious to see the reaction if Melo was there too

Dame wasn't there for a reason. Whether that was his decision or the teams, I don't know. I imagine he didn't want to be a part of the questioning.

Chauncey's family was there for a reason. He needs to come off as a stable family man. That he has a wife and daughters. Don't you guys ever watch shows about political operatives? How they polish the image of a politician? How they deal with scandals? I wouldn't say his family was there as a shield, but I would definitely say they were there to present him as a stable family man.

By whom to whom?
read my posts.,.I've stated my disgust in detail...Chauncey, his wife and 3 daughters on the most exciting day of his life...if you think this was a welcome mat by the media...well...I fucking don't

@Natebishop3

You need to stop being so skeptical about everything. Get out more.

Come off as a stable family man?

WTF.

Look at his social media. Do even a TINY bit of research on Chauncey's family. See how much they mean to him and how they have been there during every big event in his life.

So you seriously think that the media should've thought "we shouldn't ask questions about the rape allegations because... wife and kids"?

Of course nothing is their [wife and kids] fault, but given that this was 100% going to happen, whoever decided that they should be there seems more at fault than the press, who would be abdicating their responsibility if they didn't ask.

Besides, even if this is CHAUNCEY'S proud day, it's not necessarily the family's. Most kids that age don't give a shit about their parent's jobs. And that's as it should be - they're kids.

Chauncey's family was there for a reason. To support him, and revel in his accomplishment. Nothing more, nothing less. He's a big family man. They mean everything to him. They have a very tight Family here in Denver. Stop this motive BS.

i hate to do this, but there is no way the media would have treated a white coach this way.

I think the Blazers should push that angle if it comes to it and this isn't going away. "The local media, in historically racist Oregon, are conducting a Witch Hunt for a black man who was accused of rape 25 years ago. Despite numerous organizations vetting Billups and clearing his name. Despite no criminal charges, Portland's mostly White Sports Media continues to harass this black man in front of his wife and daughters. One has to wonder if a racial motivation isn't behind this continued witch hunt."

That will cause the SJW idiots heads to explode. They will have to decide between a BLM frame on Facebook, or a MeToo frame, knowing if they accept one they can't have the other. "OH MY GOD THE LOST VIRTUE THAT I COULD SIGNAL WHILE NEVER, EVER, EVER LIFTING A FUCKING FINGER TO HELP THE GROUPS I OSTENSIBLY SUPPORT!"

I can't stand these people. Little Davos Technocrat useful Idiots to boot.

Do you think the average rager on twitter cares about reality?

This was about how to present him to all the angry people in Portland.

I didn't realize that this was such a conspiracy.

Those poor daughters of his get to start high school next season with this as the first day in ripcity.....they got ripped off from the joy that comes with moving to Portland and now they'll probably get razzed in school for dumb shit ....worst case scenario

Couple thoughts.

I felt for Chancey and his family. For 99 % of all press conferences where a person gets a big-time job, it is an exciting and happy event. Sorry, they did not get to enjoy it.

I thought Neil did a good job in the opening segment. I know he is too Hollywood for some but he was very professional. His answer to the question about the "timing" seemed obvious to me, not sure why it has become such a big question. Most things leak and the fact Chauncey is still coaching did affect the timeline.

Who the hell is Anne from the associated press? "Why 5 years?" Has anyone else ever been asked that? What exactly was she implying? She really could not come up with anything basketball-related? I guess she can go back to her colleagues and say she tried to ask the tough questions.

Overall I thought the Q/A was a bit boring. But does it matter? Coaches are not hired for public speaking. The only thing that counts now is if he can win. I am glad no stupid promises were made. Nothing rah-rah. And like he said it is too early to be specific to address assistant coaches.

They were definitely prepared to squelch any ongoing 1997 questions, which I am sure did not surprise anyone here. He did come across sincere IMO.

Anne Peterson is the AP sports reporter for this area. She covers just about everything sports-related, including college and professional sports. I've always enjoyed her covered on things. Very knowledgeable and doesn't include herself in the story like a few around here are known to do.

I have seen at least one post in this forum and some on other sites that were curious about the 5 year contract. A 5 year contract for a 1st time coach does seem a bit long.

BTW, she was called upon twice to ask questions.

again... quit digging.

his daughters are aged between 15-22.
Oh, okay (I didn't watch). Even more so - my son is 22 and he couldn't care less about my job. Sure, I'm not an NBA coach, but maybe they don't even like basketball.

I'm still mystified by "digging".

How can anybody on Blazers Edge claim credibility when they are aggressively censoring any post that disagrees with them? Let's see them come in here and have a real debate on the issue!
This is a great question! One you won't find on Blazersedge, because the Politburo will have deleted it in real time!

She's also older than dirt and covered the team since back when I was there. Maybe not quite as old as you though :devilwink:

So you're saying Olshey shouldn't've hired Billups. Because that's the only way to avoid this.

The rape allegations were clearly addressed before media questioning...they just wanted dirt...details and to sow some doubt into the hiring and yes...I think that Casey Holdhal, Kerry Eggers or Brook Shields would have avoided rape questions in front of teenage girls and also...if you think teenage girls don't care about public embarrassment, you've never raised one

Hopefully not. But there always are a few turds wherever you live.

As you are clearly omniscient, you can clear up this whole rape accusation thing by confirming Billups's version.

This issue is going away. Billups is the coach now, period. There's nothing to do.

The cynic in me thinks Neil's going to trade CJ for Ben soon, just to change the narrative. Politicians do that shit.

Then Neil's place in a SpaceX rocket headed to the surface of the Sun will be cancelled in exchange for building a 30-foot bronze statue of Olshey on the waterfront. If we get Ben Simmons for CJ I mean, guys, we're gonna win a Championship. I mean that.
