Blazers Press Conference announcing new coach 6-29-2021

what does "sjw" stands for, im seeing that a lot lately, but have no idea what it means

I do have a concern that I mentioned during the press conference, Olshey said the standard background investigation and a more in-depth investigation were done AFTER the offer to hire Billups was made. That seems like more of a rubber stamp of a hiring decision vs wanting more information to help in making a hiring decision.

Eh... that's always how it worked for me.

Company decided they wanted me and then we did the background check.

Who was the lady emceeing

A couple of things...

I have no problem if there are some fans that are upset or concerned about this. I personally don't but I can understand why some do. We all have different life experiences that makes us see things differently. I was molested when I was going to catholic grade school. If the Blazers were to suddenly start holding basketball camps at catholic schools in Portland I would have a very similar reaction that many are having over the Billups hiring.

Also using a 3rd party for the investigation seems more like a CYA move. Blazers have had former FBI agents on staff. Paul Allen used former Navy Seals for his personal protection. I guarantee you Vulcan has people on staff that could do a very detailed investigation on Billups.

Again, I read what was available online about this incident and as I have posted many times before I have no problem with the fact that he settled out of court. No problem at all.

I do have one giant concern about this, there were more than Billups involved in this. One of the people who were sued didn't have the money to settle. If this person is still financially challenged he could be paid to spill his guts about this.

I welcome Billups to the Blazers and wish him the best.
Thanks for sharing that Sly.

I'm all in on the Chauncey hire and I'm satisfied that there's no hidden monsters or unhealthy abuse patterns in his life...simple
Fair enough. That's your choice. But it's a choice, and others might not be so easily satisfied, and I think you're not really in a position to judge them.

However, there was nothing unusual about Chauncey, or any other new coach in a new city, having his wife and children present at a news conference to announce his big shot at his dream job. What would have been unusual was if he had not.

Of course that's standard practice for hirings that are controversy-free. Which, of course, this one isn't.

I believe that if Billups had shown up without his wife and daughters, the SJW's would have made a big stink about that. Like that would have been proof of something nefarious and obviously planned.

Other than the obnoxious "SJW" bullshit, this is a fair point. So the fact is, there was no doubt a behind-the-scenes discussion about whether or not the family should be there. And in all likelihood the final decision was left up to the family. There is no way they were unprepared or blindsided, so perhaps no reason to feel sorry for them, except in the sense that none of this is their fault.

Not sure how Neil cut him off. Unless he told the moderator "if I glare at you and drink from my left water bottle, cancel the question."

More likely they did talk about what questions they wouldn't take beforehand.

Ha Ha! I wonder how many of us actually went back and looked for a signal? All I could see was the move toward the glass of water as well.

I'm calling out people for judging someone else....you can put the light on me and see me as the source of this mess but I'm reacting...not instigating...you tend to react to shit all the time...guess what, most people do....

Wait where is the selective outrage at CJ for supporting the coach? Why did "blazer fans" just go after Dame?
Shall we all stop shit-stirring? Yes there are obnoxious fans on both sides of this issue. But there are also fairly sensible ones on both sides. Pretending that everyone on the other side is just an asshole is just going to make Blazer fandom miserable.

I don't think you're the source of anything. But the fact remains, Chauncey was accused of rape and that is something a reporter has to ask about or be negligent. Reporters flat out shouldn't not ask questions to avoid embarrassing anybody. Everybody involved knew these questions were coming, and if the family were there, either somebody prepared them or everybody's unbelievably negligent (as in I literally don't believe it).

(I'm not sure what "react to shit" means. Yes, I respond to sensory stimuli in that I am a living creature.)

Agree, but the obnoxious ones are the ones stirring up actual responses from our players.

What do you mean by "concern"? You worry that damaging stuff about Chauncey could come out later, or you're saying that any investigation that did due diligence should've done this?

I'm sorry I've had it with the Lynch Mobs on social media and elsewhere. People are being materially harmed, sometimes for zero justifiable reason, even based on their contrived pretexts! Kids are losing their scholarships due to Edgelord jokes they shared with friends at 15 all due to this toxic mob mentality "call out culture". It has gotta be lanced from society with a whitehot poker or it will, mark my words, bring this entire country down.

I completely agree that:
1. People should not be held accountable for their entire lives because of things they did before their brains fully formed.
2. People should be allowed to redeem themselves and be forgiven (which is why I believe, as do most liberals, that ex-cons deserve every chance).

What I don't get is how your idea of the Blazers using accusations of racism against the people protesting against the hiring of coach with a rape accusation in his past is "lancing" the problem from society rather than making things a whole lot fucking worse.

True Fan: "We need PROOF you aren't being racist about Billups!"
SJW shit-stirrer: "But that's subjective and would require a brain-scan to know for sure!"
True Fan: "Exactly you piece of shit, now Shut the fuck up!"

Ah yes, the SJW shit-stirrer. The only person responsible for "cancel culture". This is why we're justified in passing laws banning the teaching of certain academic theories in schools and universities. Yes, that'll fix the problem!
And is the "True Fan" one who wouldn't even care if every member of the team was a serial rapist so long as they can play basketball?

Re: your "argument" above. You seem to assume that, given that we don't know who's telling the truth, we actually do, it's Chauncey and not that lying tramp who's just a gold-digging liar.

“I think we can even be better offensively with more ball movement, different schemes, different plays, executing a little bit better. Playing on both sides of the floor a little bit more, not having to like, you know have Dame and CJ bail you out with those shots that they can make all the time. Having some more continuity, not only ball movement, but player movement.

“Big Nurk, you know, is an asset. I think that he can score more than he has in the past. He's a really good facilitator, moving him around, putting the ball in his hands, moving Dame and CJ off the ball a little bit.”

I didn't care for that lady cutting off Quick's question-- think that coulda helped Chauncey more than it hurt him
It was Quick.
Blazers don’t deal with him. He’s has lost them. Not sure why he continues to try to report them. Pretty much “He Blew His Chance” it’s gone.

Fuck You! You're racist against Iso-offense and matador defense! What a disgrace! :)

Possibly, or if the person who was financially challenged was actually the guilty party, and the others were only named because they were the ones with money and just wanted it to go away. I read the reports online as well and his "dialogue" was the most suspicious and disturbing.

i can't believe that she's getting away with saying that shit.

Sure let's drag the victim through the mud by rehashing to the worldwide media all of the stuff that she probably tried to bury. Let's go through the gory details and not only violate any potential NDAs but also potentially remove her anonymity.

For what? To make this lady feel better about the Billups hire and try to absolve him of any wrongdoing?

What is her end goal here? Because it definitely is not supporting women or the victim.

As someone just banned from BE, Dia’s end goal is to get as much attention as she can to try and crack into sports journalism and she’s smart enough to exploit the issue of rape for clicks.

Man now those people are harassing Travis Demers on twitter over this, the mob has to be satisfied

As I said above, it's basically over. And, here's a really sad thing about all of this tomfoolery: women are going to have a harder time breaking into the head coaching ranks.

As a gm, it's much safer to not consider female hc candidates.
#avoidtheshitshow

And, it's too bad. If it wasn't for her baggage, Becky (or someone with her qualifications) would be a reasonable choice as hc for a club trying to develop young players.

warriors fired mark Jackson and hired Steve Kerr. Didn’t do that much else. The biggest thing was a coaching decision to ply draymond green

not quite

Klay and Green were 23 and Curry was 25. Next season, Dame will be 31, CJ 30, and Nurkic 27. What the Warrior drafted off of was the maturation of their big 3 players. Portland won't have that. And of course, the Blazers won't have a #2 as good as Klay or a #3 as good as Green

the Warriors are a really bad comp for Portland

This part gave me a stiffy.
