Blazers relocating to Seattle

I would like someone to explain to me why this is a remotely logical synopsis.... I will present to you why I believe it is outlandish.

1. The Blazers are already here and the owner has kept them here 28years
2. Paul Allen Owns the Stadium
3. Seattle Hatres the Blazers the way we hate the Lakers
4. There is ZERO interest by the City, County or State in getting an arena built... They just turned down permits for a privately funded Stadium.
5. Upgrading market size from Portland to Seattle isn't that big of an upgrade
6. He already has a super strong following here, why not steal a few fans from Seattle instead of alienating the existing fanbase in hopes of winning over a sour one.
7. He essentially would be cutting his overall market in half.
8. By having the Seahawks in one market and the Blazers in the other there can be a marketing plan setup as a "Sports Family" Which taps deeper into both markets.
9. He witnessed 1st hand the fallout of the Sonics leaving. Paul Allen likes to be liked and he doesn't want to be "that guy"
10. Cost to build a New Stadium + relocate a franchise isn't cheap. OKC already had a stadium built for the Sonics to move into
11. All the other 29 owners have to approve the move and there is no outside pressure to to move the Blazers
12. There has been little to no effort on behalf of the league to get a team back to Seattle

Think about it. It makes so much sense. We are the most geographically isolated team in the league. It may be the NW Division, but we're the only team in the Northwest and the only team in our division in the Pacific Time Zone. Half of our division rivals are in the Central Time Zone. Moving us to St Louis puts us much closer to our division rivals.

If they hire Joe Buck or Tim McCarver as our TV analyst, that seals the deal.

Yeah, it cracked me up at the time. I THINK it was back during the while Rose Garden bankruptcy fiasco, but I may be wrong. This fan base doesn't actually need a legitimate reason to freak out about the team moving.

Hire a new play-by-play guy and it's a sure sign the team is moving to Seattle. We didn't move to Seattle when we had Shawn Kemp, Detlef Schrempf, Greg Anthony on the roster and Bob Whisitt as the GM. We didn't move them to Seattle when Nate was the coach and we drafted Martell Webster and Brandon Roy in consecutive drafts. But yeah, we just hired an announcer who called Sonics games 8 years ago and that's a sure sigh Paul is moving the team up I-5. Right...

I agree. We need more NW teams in the NW Division. We currently have one.

Both of those moves were bogus. The hillbillies lied and stole the team from Seattle. The Grizzlies, in spite of truly sucking, drew much bigger crowds in Vancouver than they did for their first several years in Memphis. It wasn't until MEM became a 50-win playoff team that they finally drew bigger crowds in Memphis than they did in Vancouver.

Also: Isn't crashing the team and alienating the fans a pre-requisite for trying to bail on a city? As much as a handful of Blazers fanatics resent Paul Allen continually hiring top level employees from Seattle, I don't think hiring Calabro qualifies as alienating (most) fans, and the Blazers certainly aren't crashing the team.

Nothing to see here.

Kevin Durant has never spoken badly about Seattle. We have long avoided paying long term money in free agency waiting for this summer for him to be a free agent. Not sure what else you need to prove PA wants the team in Seattle.

The crash and burn to the ground approach is usually employed when selling the team. Cut payroll as much as possible to save money, suck on the field to reduce attendance, use low attendance as proof of no fan support, get high draft picks due to poor on field performance, draft young, cheap talent, move team to wherever tax payers are desperate enough to build you a billion dollar stadium at their expense.

Other than the fact that Paul isn't going to sell the team, none of those seem likely. Paul loves to win. We have a very good young team with potential to get even better. We're not going to go into intentional suckage mode. Hell, that's what several fans wanted this season, so we woudn't have to give our draft pick to Denver, but the team went out and showed that they'd rather win than suck. Paul loves this team. He's not going to intentionally destroy it for any reason.

Plus, the tax payers of Seattle have voted down a publicly funded basketball arena multiple times. They are not desperate enough to pay for a stadium for a billionaire so he can get even richer off their tax dollars. Paul already owns a basketball arena. I doubt if he wants to pay for another. And, if he decides to move the team to Seattle, he's stuck with a stadium in Portland with no tenant.

None of this makes any sense, but that doesn't stop the paranoid speculation. We just hired a guy who called games for the Sonics 8 years ago, and some take that as a sure sign the team is moving. Ok, if you say so...

Obviously a cat can't make (good) decisions about a basketball team. So you have to look to the cat's caretaker. And that person is...
