Mike Tokito says the Blazers received a 3.3 trade exception as a result of the Batum trade that can be used or renounced.
probably the other way around. They'll spend July 1-8 trying to figure out who they can get to agree to sign. Then they'll renounce cap holds as necessary. But in general a TE isn't that valuable if you're planning to have/use cap space to sign people.
EDIT: If you remember the Kahn saga with Batum, they were waiving and renouncing guys even after the moratorium had passed trying to get to where they could get enough space for Batum. We can similarly wait to see if we just re-sign all of our FA's, go over the cap and use TE's to fill the roster. Or find out that LeBron wants to come here and renounce whatever it takes to get him the salary he wants.
If we signed LaMarcus to a max deal ($20,130000), we would then have $23,453,968 free. With that we could sign another 7-9 yr max player ($20,130,000) and have $3,849,061 left over. Or, we could sign a 0-6 yr max player like Greg Monroe ($16,775,000), and still have $7,204,061 left to spend.
Great points above. Yes, if we're going to go after a max free agent (beyond ours that we can use bird rights on), we need to renounce the rights to a significant amount of our player, including this trade exception. As Brian and Denny point out, this exception can't be used to sign FA. It must be renounce to clear up CAP space if we go that direction.Mike Tokito says the Blazers received a 3.3 trade exception as a result of the Batum trade that can be used or renounced.
Someone said Love has shed a lot of weight. If he gets light enough, could he play the 3?I think Plumlee was a great get. Would be an upgrade over Kaman for $3.5M, saving money to pursue a good starting center. Hendo can be our starting SG of we don't bring Wes back, but who do we plug as starting SF, and is Connaugton ready to step in as our backup 3?
Neil has done an amazing job having such flexibility. If this franchise was in NY or LA there would be so much more excitement and talk about them possibly forming an elite contender.
Absolutely. Just a perfect set up with contingencies for every scenario. It feels amazing to have a GM with a vision.
Fuckin NBA players, man. Why can't they realize how appealing this city is???
I was being facetious. As an unmarried non-white guy in my mid 20s, I'd rather be in LA/NYC than POR too, and I grew up in Beaverton and currently live in podunk Indy. smh....because it really isn't. Portland is a mecca for young unemployed street kids and vagrants for one.
For two, most NBA players are not white, and this city is mainly white, meaning there are possibly lots of cultural differences for them.
For three, Portland is just fucking weird. Nobody likes weird unless youre some whack hippy/hiker person you see on Portlandia.

Definitely feel ya. POR just doesn't appeal to me for a multitude of reasons. I like it better than the midwest for sure, and I'm in CHI like every other week (going there after work tonight for the weekend), and definitely would take POR over CHI. But LA, MIA, and NY i'd rather live in instead of POR.I'd rather be in Portland than where I am (Chicago), and I grew up in Beaverton too. People that have actually lived there don't really appreciate it until they're gone. Portland kicks the shit out of the big cities any day.

That's going to change.
Re: streetkids: Bigtime gentrification is happening and the Mayor has perks/incentives to revitalize (gentrify) oldtown. This area is next to boom.
It's happening now (in a big way) east of the river -- Central Eastside and the Lloyd Dist.

None taken, I agree with you. Only redeeming features about it to me are my job and low cost of living.I've been to Indianapolis a few times and it's a shithole.

I just saw the thread. Give me a bit to check it out. In general, it's looks alright, but I haven't been worried about basketball for a few months and need to check stuff out.@BrianFromWA are the cap hold numbers correct?
