Realistically I think 5 years from now 3 will be all-stars, 10 years from now 5-6 will be all-stars. There will be many fringe all-stars who won't make it due to depth of talent around the league. This draft has about 65 future all-stars.
june 19When does Bell come in? Did I miss that?
There is a large range between a bust and all-star. Although Swanigan has stat similarity and comparisons to some NBA all-stars, he also has similarities and comparisons to many busts. My guess is that he ends up somewhere in between. I think he's undervalued as a projected second round pick. Certainly worthy of the risk. This draft has about 65 future all-stars.
I'm just being combative because he's been combative with others lately. Not gonna spend the energy to make my posts nice if the other person doesn't either.I think several of you guys are being overly combative tools about the draft. The reality is our opinions simply are irrelevant because they won't change the outcome of the draft or how a college player will translate to the NBA... in other words it doesn't matter if our opinion is right. Having discussion is fun, watching head strong posters argue the same point back and forth for pages is irritating and non-productive.
Furthermore the love for late 1st round and 2nd round players is truly out of control this year. Top 5 busts are more common than 2nd round big successes. There is a large body of evidence called the draft history to call from in all regards. It proves that top college talent doesn't always translate to the NBA, in fact it's very rare that the best college player goes on to be elite an Elite NBA player. Look at the last 10 PAC 12 players of the year.
James Harden, Jerome Randle, Derrick Williams, Jorge Gutierrez, Allen Crabbe, Nick Johnson, Joseph Young, Josef Pöltl and Dillon Brooks.... Not exactly a star studded lineup. Stats don't reliably translate either, remember Adam Morrison... Harold Minor? On the flip side Westbrook being the 3rd leading scorer on his college team? A 6'6" guy can lead his team in rebounding in college but won't in the NBA.
Intangibles are the most important part of scouting college prospects especially since most these guys haven't grown into their bodies yet. So body type/size, mobility, coordination, hands, basic instincts those are the things scouts are looking at.
See that's where you and I differ. I've never seen being nice as something that takes significant effort.I'm just being combative because he's been combative with others lately. Not gonna spend the energy to make my posts nice if the other person doesn't either.
As far as the other part of the post, well said.
When the dude freaked out at me for comparing Kennard to Redick and then tries to tell me that Swanigan is likely a future all-star, it'll take some effort.See that's where you and I differ. I've never seen being nice as something that takes significant effort.

No one ever said that Swanigan is a future all-star.When the dude freaked out at me for comparing Kennard to Redick and then tries to tell me that Swanigan is likely a future all-star, it'll take some effort.
For me, it actually does take some effort, but i try to give that effort.See that's where you and I differ. I've never seen being nice as something that takes significant effort.
"Early Memphis Randolph" was an all-star.No one ever said that Swanigan is a future all-star.
I made the comparison to ZBo, as an average level starting PF.
Listening to those guys makes it pretty apparent what the Blazers are looking for.
Bruce Bowen"Defend inside and outside, and hit that 3 point shot consistently"
which would be a great addition!Bruce Bowen
NBAdraft.net must have Pasecniks rated really low for him to average out at 34, cuz he is at 23 at draftexpress.Looking at the Blazers complete workout list and putting it in order of average mock for DraftExpress.com and NBADraft.net:
13.0 Donovan Mitchell (G)
16.0 Justin Patton - best available
17.5 Harry Giles
18.0 John Collins
18.0 TJ Leaf
20.0 Bam Adebayo - best available
21.0 Terrance Ferguson (G/F)
26.0 Jawun Evans (G) - best available
27.0 Og Anunoby
31.5 Tyler Lydon
34.0 Anzejes Pasecniks
35.0 Caleb Swanigan
41.0 Josh Hart (G)
42.0 PJ Dozier
44.0 Tyler Dorsey (G)
45.0 Dillon Brooks (G/F)
46.0 Sindarius Thornwell (G)
47.0 Dwayne Bacon (G)
51.0 Cameron Oliver
52.0 Thomas Bryant
It's pretty clear that bigs are the target in our draft range.
If we're looking at taking the 'best available' according to these mock drafts, then the Blazers could potentially take:
#15 - Justin Patton, or Harry Giles
#20 - Whoever is left of: John Collins, TJ Leaf, Bam Adebayo, or Terrance Ferguson
#26 - Whoever is left of: Jawun Evans, Og Anunoby, Tyler Lydon, or Anzejes Pasecniks.
Top targets of 2nd round picks if purchased: Anzejes Pasecnics, Caleb Swanigan, Josh Hart or PJ Dozier
Would you be happy with a Patton, Adebayo, Evans draft?
With less than a week before the draft, there's still a ton of uncertainty. The Blazers have 3 first round picks, and I haven't heard a single name that the Blazers are targeting. This is going to be a crazy/exciting draft!
Yep. They have Pasecniks at 46.NBAdraft.net must have Pasecniks rated really low for him to average out at 34, cuz he is at 23 at draftexpress.
He'll go first round for sure, because the bottom half of the first is always Eurostash players these days, because teams want to put off paying guaranteed money to low-first-round talent.Yep. They have Pasecniks at 46.
