Neil after the draft:

"We're going to be creative and opportunistic."

Underwhelming but not a bad contract. Still part of Olshey's Cap Space plan for next summer although who will the FA's be?

:matrix:

I was disappointed when I first saw this thread. I wanted Hawes. But I'm on board with Kaman after reading this thread. 10/6 in 19 minutes is awesome. He gives us another legit 7 footer. If something happens to Lopez or if Lopez gets into foul trouble, Aldridge will still have a legit 7 footer on the floor with him. He's happy to be here. He considers us a contender. Lillard and Lopez want him to be here. I'm happy.

At the end of the day he does make our team better. Yes there were others that could have helped more but he still makes us better. What's done is done and I will root for him and hope to be pleasantly surprised

People across the board were underwhelmed when we signed Lopez last summer after making Hibbert an offer and I think given Hughes relationship with Kaman and the team we have, Chris may just have a great year as a Blazer. This was a "Moneyball" move. He doesn't hit homers but he gets on base.

I was at a Clippers game a few years back and Kaman dominated, grabbing 20-21 rebounds.

One thing this really seems to say is that we really have high hopes for the young guys and I hope that is based upon what they have seen this summer and not just what they hope for.

Hibbert deal was two years ago. Lopez was last year. And I agree with you.

Well, at least now we'll be the most attractive team in the NBA. So there's that.

I'd rather have him than Frye and maybe McBob. At least he is a legit NBA player if healthy.

jeesh, you guys and the Josh McRoberts love. It's not like he's really that good.

Well I was hoping for a miracle of getting Hawes for the MLE or a Monroe trade so comparatively this is a disappointment. But I trust Neil evaluated all his options and if Frye, Hawes, and the other big men were unavailable for the MLE he must've decided this was the best realistic option. Kaman can definitely give our bench production; I mean hell a little over a year ago he was an $8 million starting center for the defending champion Mavs.

I think this signing shows there were no needle movers so Olshey decided to grab the best MLE big man he could. Sure we could've held out hope and gambled that a better bargain option was available in a few weeks but then we'd risk being left with nothing. I'm fine with the signing.

The Blazers success next season was always going to come down to primarily improvements from the players under the age of 30 already on this roster. If we get a couple young guys to become good role players and a starter to take a step forward we could be a contender next year. That was the case before the offseason and still the case today. It's not flashy but last offseason wasn't flashy either and Neil ended up getting executive of the year votes. Sometimes knowing when to not make a deal can be as important as making a change.

So the only thing left now is a backup PG spot. I'd expect Mo to eventually take a deal for $3 years $10 million. Yes we have the BAE available but if we don't use it this offseason we can save it to use next year.

You're fine. He's just giving you a bad time.

I am indeed pulling your leg.

Sly always tells the rookies "watch out cause guys like to give rookies a hard time" which I don't really witness happening. So I started thinking - I don't want you guys to start thinking sly is a liar!

Is this dude still literally rated higher than Robin in NBA 2k?

Yuck . . . don't like Kaman (now I have to) and think this was a desperate move for the Blazers.

Two thoughts:

-it all about next summer

-Blazers will pick up Leonard's option

I don't expect a trade. I also don't expect big things from Kamen and I don't think the Blazers or even Kamen's agent does with this contract. It is a contract that says we will see what happens but don't really trust it will work out . . . and it is a player who must have little market value given what other players are getting out there right now.

Has there been a FA signed this summer to less guaranteed money that Kaman? Has there been a FA signed yet as bad as Kaman? This was a move thinking about summer of 2015. Ugh
