No no no, I asked you what THIS seasons bench is doing better?
Nance is better than anyone on our bench last year. Zeller is better than Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (our back up center when it mattered.) And by all accounts, Simons is improved. So this year’s bench is better than last year’s, imho.

You've explained your guess, but at this point that's all it is. If we end up being a top 3-5 offense against multiple teams in this years playoffs, I think you'll have something to back up your guess.

I'm guessing we won't be a top offense/defense in the playoff yet again because it is more roster based. Time will tell.
Hahahaha yeah, it's a guess. Even though the team stands around and runs Dame into traps with a horrible floor setup, holds onto to the ball constantly, and their playoff offense gets shut down when the season is on the line against a mediocre defense... if only someone "guessed" that was gonna happen.

We've seen teams with similar offensive "systems" struggle in the playoffs. But yup, just a guess.

There's no way that you honestly think that we scored 20 points in the final 16 minutes of the season against the depleted Nuggets because of our roster...

It's funny how some people think having a PF shooting 70% of his shots from 2 and shooting 44% from there (awful) while rarely getting to the line is a big loss offensively while completely ignoring the defensive side of the ball. Then they ignore how we regularly got outscored by wide margins with them on the court last season.

It's even funnier that people think think that a couple preseason games proves that point...

I don't use 16 minute sample sizes to come to broad conclusions. In 2000, I didn't say Dunleavy ran a horrible offense because the last 16 minutes of Game 7 the offense sucked ass, with a far more talented team than we've had in the last 10 years.

Assuming we make the playoffs (we should), I think we're going to get a chance to see if we can be a top 3-5 post season offense. I'd be willing to bet we won't be and I have a feeling you wouldn't want to take the other side of the bet either.

I don't mean to say this to make you upset, but you have to see some irony in these two posts being back to back.

Of course 3 preseason games don't prove anything. 16 minutes of a playoff game doesn't prove anything.

I do believe if we came out guns a blazing on offense/defense this preseason, some of the same people who are saying the preseason doesn't matter, would be commenting how much better things are under Billups already. Unfortunately, we'll never know, because we have sucked this preseason.

It was the most important 16 minutes of the season, and when you're talking playoffs, of course it's going to be a smaller sample size than the regular season.

I'm not saying the offense sucks because of the result, the result is the result because the offense sucks (in the playoffs)... Seems like Chauncey agrees with me..

Different things can lead to the same result. Nome of my analysis is based off the result, it's based off what leads to the result.

And I bet you we'd be top 5.

How about 8 years of playoffs?

You realize 3 games in the postseason when the team is supposed to be in full form is a much better time to judge how the team is playing than after 3 games in the pre-season, right?

I agree, though now you're saying 3 post season games when earlier you said 16 minutes, so the goalposts are moving.

Regardless, this goes back to the point that we don't know the cause, roster vs scheme. Do you think this years team will finish top 5 in post-season offense with this new system?

I'm not moving the goalposts, I'm trying to illustrate a point. 16 minutes applies too.

Yes. If they don't then that might prove that it was also roster issue

I'd love to make a wager with you that they will not finish top 5 in offensive efficiency in the post season. You down? Do you really believe it?

You're the man! We'll do something fun, that will be honored. What would work for you?

To be clear: Will the Blazers finish the 2022 playoffs ranked top 5 in offensive efficiency (what site/metric)?

ORTG, NBA.com, up to you!

Love it. You're right, I buy a Blazers Uprise mousepad for you to give to your #1 Stotts hater. I win, you buy it for me! Nearly a win win for you!

@BonesJones Get that mouse pad ready my friend!

They didn't not finish top 5! (I got you, you want the red or the Oregon colorway version?).

Appreciate you honoring your word. Since I have about five mouse pads and one computer, maybe there is someone or some organization that might be able to put it to better use. Got anything or anyone in mind?

Wish we could've made the playoffs to see how this would've played out. Next year!
