The problem I see is TO’s. The amount they are committing is flat out ridiculous. If we don’t clean up that shit we won’t beat anybody.

If Zeller were playing, he would be able to neutralize McGee.

I don't know, I think Lamar was pretty accurate when he said a 7'1" center would not have stopped the lob dunk on those plays if they elected to defend it the same way. The standing reach of Nance (9') is longer than Zeller's (8'10") Kanter has a 9'1 1/2 inch standing reach but very little vertical leap compared to Nance. So IMO the issue was not size, it was either the scheme or the wrong rotation.

I have an idea!

time to fire OLSHEY!

bring in Danny Ainge.

get this ship righted before we go 5-20 to start.

I wonder if Laker fans are on their fan board talking about how the Blazers got "Boat Raced" by the suns so everything is hunky dory?

41-41
9th place
1st 30 games…..12-18

I’m not mad and frustrated by this at all….. it’s to be expected in a season of transition. Trust me, there will be a lot of this happening this season.I want to know how my dude who predicted 54 wins feels to be honest?
Preseason rarely means anything….. or does it?

Snowflakes, snowflakes everywhere;)

Our positions 1-3 are just too undersized. CJ should be gone and Powell should be starting at the 2. I’m going to feel bad for Nurk when he’s in foul trouble every game because those guys couldn’t contain their man and they left Nurk out to dry. Plus it’s not like Nurk doesn’t pick up dumb fouls anyways.

Our issues defensively starts with our guards. Powell has no business playing the 3. Yikes.

In the regular season! Its not sustainable for a deep playoff run.

The roster is not sustainable for a deep playoff run, it wasn't the offensive sets.

Having said that, I still think this a playoff team if we can stay healthy. I hope that's enough to keep Dame happy.

Makes me wonder, does anyone compile stats for playoff offense/defense rankings?

Yes, they do. The problem with comparing numbers when you're going against all the teams vs top 10 (often top 5) teams, you'd expect those numbers to go down because you're facing the best offenses or defenses.

Also, the cause of those numbers changing could be due to scheme, but it also could be due to the roster being small or or slow in certainly positions. This coaching change, with minor roster moves might help us understand if the scheme has a big impact on the outcome or not.

Funny thing is, I don't know what that term means. I see it on the OT page a lot, so I don't know if its good or bad.

The one you are seeing now won't even get us INTO the playoffs. Thinking maybe we should have just worked on the defense and kept the #2 best offense in the league alone.

We had the number two rated offense in the NBA! Why would we rebuild it bro?
Because it doesn't work in the playoffs...

Keep in mind, the regular season rank is out of 30 teams and the postseason rank is out of 16 teams.

Our offense was extremely predictable and therefore easy to gameplan for in a playoff series. Also, Iso/PnR heavy offenses tend to struggle in the playoffs because defenders are allowed to be more physical on-ball.

Short-term pain, long-term gain.

I remember myself and everyone else complaining about Mike Dunleavy. He was replaced by more than a decade of really, really terrible coaches. I mean god awful. Dunleavy wasn't great, but jesus he looked sooooo much better in hindsight. Same with Adelman.

Stotts wasn't great and it was time for him to go. But jesus, that show they put on last night was Mo Cheeks-worthy.

Agreed, but the biggest issue, in my mind, is that you don't get an even sampling across the playoff teams. Playing against better defenses is one thing, but not getting a round robin look at all of them makes it tough to extrapolate consistent data for ranking purposes.

Fair opinion, you're not the only one who has said this, but I haven't seen any data that includes all teams, that supports this over a long period of time. Seems more like a narrative than a fact.

Very good point!

This is a great chart, it really is. It does a great job of pointing out the Blazers are not as good against playoff teams as they are against the rest of the league. What the chart doesn't identify at all, is the reason for this. You might say scheme, I might say roster makeup, and neither/both could be true.
