So how does this effect the cap for next year? Affalo has a player option? Gee's contract is??
Would these two players prevent the Blazers from keeping their starting lineup together without a trade?(if wes/rolo were to get max offers?)
Just curious.

@blazersblog: GM Neil Olshey on Alonzo Gee: "Alonzo's unique. ... he guards 3 positions, he's an NBA-caliber athlete ... elite defender."

This doesn't sound like a guy that's gonna be waving a towel.
". ... he guards 3 positions, he's an NBA-caliber athlete ... elite defender." It's true, he's all these things but he's gonna wave a mean towel too!

So... we've an open spot... most likely, K. Perkins will b bought out; I think we can use his experience/grittiness. However, my first choice for the last spot, would b JaVale McGee (provided Phi. buys him out, I'm thinking/hoping this is the way they go w/ their glut of you bigs ;) if he's available.

No 2x, and I can't stress that enough. Perkins flat out sucks and has for years. JaVale McGee isn't just a regular on Shaqtin' a Fool, he is a horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE defender. He tries to block EVERY shot, including many he has no chance to block every time a guard drives the lane. In the process, he always leaves his man wide open under the basket for open lobs and put backs. He makes J.J. Hickson look like DPOY material. They dumped McGee and kept Hickson because he's a better defender. Denver regretted signing McGee to that huge extension before the ink was even dry on the contract and has been looking for a way to dump him ever since. No thanks! No fucking thanks!!!

If the blazers need a stop on a final defensive possession I'd go with batum on the PG, Wes on the SG and Gee on the SF.

I put the odds at:

No move - 60%
PG - 25%
SF - 10%
Big - 5%
I put the odds att

No Move - 0%
A FA Signing - 100%

It makes absolutely no sense at all to go into a playoff run with an empty roster spot. The team is pretty well balanced right now so I would put my vote in on BPA.

Balanced, as well as full of guys who play multiple positions.

1 Blake
1/2 Lillard, CJ
2/3 Wes, Afflalo, Crabbe, Gee
3 Batum
3/4 Wright
4/5 Aldridge, Freeland, Leonard
5 Lopez, Kaman

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that a pure PG is the right move. Where's Eric Maynor these days...?

What does Alonzo Gee bring to the team?

"Nobody's really talking about that, but I think anybody that watched our game at Denver (saw) the impact he can have on the defensive end of the court. We really felt like we wanted to make sure Alonzo was included in the deal. Because we were losing an athlete and an open-floor player like Will. Alonzo is unique. We have a lot of highly skilled guys that make shots on our team. But he guards three positions, he's an NBA-caliber athlete, he's a tough kid, he's excited about being here and having a chance to compete. He hasn't been to the playoffs before, so he's excited about that opportunity. We'll see. He's going to get a chance. Having a guy who's an elite defender when you get into a playoff series, it's just a nice luxury to have. And it adds even more depth on our perimeter."

POR is going to wait until March 1st (when all buyouts have to be completed for someone to be available for playoffs) before deciding according to reports and those reports say they may not make a move at all. Now of course these are just reports and could change but...

I haven't seen those reports, just the reports that no more moves would be made today. That is a given as players have to clear waivers and whatnot and most players won't be waived our bought out for at least a couple days. I think though that if nothing else they will get involved in signing a pleyer just to keep them away from another contender.

The press is still criticizing our bench as one of league's worst. Really? I thought it had improved dramatically.

Afflalo was our missing piece, I firmly believe that.

The Memphis game may just turn to our favor now.

Hopefully they criticize our starters too. And hopefully the rest of the association will believe them.

Afflalo will be great but let's not guarantee a win against Memphis. Afflalo will have a bumpy first couple weeks, we need to prepare for that.

I didn't Kingspeed it, I say it may just have turned in our favor. I had little confidence going into it.

no one has mentioned batum may be the 6th man soon? wes could start at the 3 np. batum better step up that game son
