Trade Blazers trade Hezonja for Kanter!

Your fascination with this is fascinating. Likewise, the fact that it troubles you is troubling.

LOL. What I find fascinating is that so many people are willing to jump to the worst of conclusions about a person's motives these days based upon as little as a couple of posts. I'd simply ask whether, based upon the overall content of my posting on these boards for about 20 years, does anyone find me to be one who is particularly biased based on religion or race?

As far as I can tell, it appears as if Aminu and Nurkic

It’s a fact the Kanter casts during Ramadan and it’s a fact that this thread is about Kanter.

Other than you claiming it can help athletes play better, which I find no proof of in terms of scientific research, it seems to be somewhat difficult. Even Enes said he talked to Hakeem for ideas on how to keep playing well while fasting.

Calling out that poster for having some anti-Muslim bias is ridiculous. Wondering about the effect of a fast on game performance is not criticizing that player for their faith.

Thank you. You summed it up nicely.

You were not here during this conversation last year: http://www.sportstwo.com/threads/hood-should-be-the-priority.345051/

Gee, I wonder who brought it up then.

Not many people are as disciplined. I've tried religious fasts before, and it takes some serious mental fortitude to get past the initial temptations to break it before you reach a sustainable level of energy. I dunno. I just hate it being brought up every time we discuss Kanter. There are so many other Muslims in the NBA that have succeeded. The only reason we ever saw a drop off last year was because of his shoulder. To attribute that to his fast, or then repeatedly claiming it's an issue just reeks of ignorance.

Questioning the effect of no food or water all day for a professional athlete and how it impacts performance “reeks of ignorance” in what way? It appears that you are taking a legitimate point and because you see bias in it that it’s there, you aren’t engaging and instead are attacking @eblazer and his character.

I have a question about the affects of not drinking water while fasting. If bringing that question up twice in threads about Kanter somehow violates your sense of propriety, that's on you. The fact that I phrased my post as a question pretty much states that, yes, I am ignorant about this issue. I think that answering the question, if you're able, would be a better response than calling me a bigot for asking a legitimate question.

Just want to say I’ve read this thread and the one bringing up religion is you. It’s is possible to debate the merits of demerits of fasting and playing NBA basketball without accusing someone of being a bigot, which you are doing for no reason at all. It’s not a discussion when you falsely put a person in a corner by labeling them for something they haven’t done.

You damn right I brought up religion. When you speak the truth about something you don't sugarcoat it.

Just because he didn't say the word religion doesn't mean he wasn't talking about it.

And what is wrong with that statement? I have a question about how the heck they can not drink water and play at an NBA level. The fact that Kanter, and other Muslims, appear to be able to pull this off is impressive. I don't get how they can do it.

Okay now I'm just going to come out and call you a damn liar. Your reasoning behind bringing this up has become a moving target. First you soured on Kanter because of Ramadan. Now you're "impressed" by the fact that they can pull it off. Remember what I said earlier in the thread and just stop.

Isn’t fasting just until the sun goes down? Most nba games are at night, so drinking water shouldn’t even be an issue most of the time?

I'm a pretty plain-spoken guy. When I talk about the impact of fasting on the body of an athlete, that's what I'm talking about. When someone takes that and twists it into a statement on a religion, that pretty much tells me that they are the one with the problems.

We already explained this to him last year. And he mentioned that it would affect his performance in afternoon games. Then seemingly forgot that whole episode and brought it up again this year. It's not even a big deal. I don't get why he keeps resurfacing the topic.

And I said that above. It's not an issue for the night games. It's just a potential issue for the daytime games that take place on weekends. It seems that Kanter is able to power through it, but I'm just curious how that is done. I'd love to get a chance to sit down and talk with him about it. I don't think he'd be offended by my asking.

Knock off the personal insults. I said in the post that I had completely forgotten about, that I'd go for Hood first. Ever since Kanter became a Blazer and it became known that his fasting during Ramadan included not drinking during day games, I've had a concern about how that affects his performance. I thought that not having that potential issue gave an edge to signing Hood rather than Kanter. I do find it impressive that he is able to play through the fasting. That doesn't mean that there aren't possible negative impacts on his body and performance associated with it.

Sunset for May 5th, 2021 is 8:23pm in Portland. Let’s say there is a 7:30pm playoff game that starts at 7:45. That’s still almost the entire first quarter and all of pre-game warm-ups with no water or food. Sunrise at 5:52am so that’s roughly 14.5 hours of no food or water. It’s a difficult physical task without exercise for even one day. Very impressive.

I've noticed you're kind of biased towards the Blazers! :)
