Blazers Uprise Live!
Will there be a bidding war for Robert Covington and/or Jusuf Nurkic in the trade market?
4 games tonight for picks against the spread. Come vote for chat's picks!
great post, but one thingLove the content guys. Curious to know what you guys think about a Chet Holmgren + Ben pairing on defense. Seems very realistic that it can happen now if we signal a full tank and have Dame do the surgery. Norman + Nance + Covington + Nurkic should be able to get more than enough picks to make a CJ + picks for Ben trade down the line, like if not by the trade deadline, then by the draft or offseason.
Anfernee has had an impressive ast/to ratio in his 5 starts (24-6 total, 4.0). While I don’t expect that to keep up I expect his apg to go up given more opportunities now to play make for others. I think the entire season should be spent playing Simons at PG with a heavy emphasis on setting up CJ when he returns. I think it helps boost CJ’s value while improving Simons’ playmaking enough so that he can start next season. Consistency might continue to be an issue but I have seen enough to be confident that he will be a good enough scorer. Inconsistency this season may likely mean a cheaper extension anyway.
Holmgren isn’t someone I’m looking at in the draft if we don’t go after Ben btw, which is why I thought it would be interesting for ya’ll to talk about. I’m more high on Smith, but Holmgren would be the perfect guy to pair with Ben because ideally you wouldn’t want Ben guarding the biggest guy on the floor every night. You don’t have to start him right away, but I think the key to developing him would be filling out his frame as quick as possible. Two years of him just focusing on getting stronger, shooting 3’s, and reading NBA defenses would do wonders for our team needs, although I know he has handles and can do all that.
The possibility of a Simmons/Holmgren pairing at PF/C would seem like a legendary defensive front court if all things panned out right? I had doubts about Gobert because of his frame, so seeing his transformation gives me confidence that Holmgren will get to that point and be a top 5 rim protector. I think Simmons will make up for any lack of mobility on defense and his unicorn-traits on offense will make up for Simmons’ lack of shooting. Little is also a great rebounder, and his budding defensive abilities should theoretically cancel out Simons’ defensive deficiencies.
Those were just my thoughts that brought me to that Simmons/Holmgren dream scenario.
If ya’ll could give some quick thoughts to the summarized question
“ Dame/Simons/Little/Simmons/Holmgren - does that team make the finals in the next 3 years?”
in the next stream or mailbag or whatever, that’d be awesome. I don’t usually ever get to make your livestreams but I always watch them usually a few days after. Continue the great job guys!
great post, but one thing
gobert came into the league at 238 pounds and has bulked up to 258. Chet would have to have a crazy transformation to even come close to what govern was when he was drafted. Even at 238 people had doubts about his strength. Chet is like 190.
all that being said I’d still be okay with taking Chet
Appreciate you! I have a lot of work to do on prospects but I'm looking forward to covering this draft! Haven't really been able to get invested in a draft since I started the channel so this should be fun! That’s fair. Gobert was just a skinny pre-draft player that I came up with off the top of my head. Giannis is another good comparison, he wasn’t even 200 if I remember correctly.
Holmgren is also the only guy of the three bigs that I can see falling out of the top 3. By the end of March Madness, there probably will be clear cut frontrunners as the best guard and best wing. So depending on draft order, the team that drafts the 3rd best big on draft night might end up being the 6th-10th pick. And even then, maybe Duren has a strong tournament and overleaps Holmgren. Then there’s the decision of grabbing Duren or trading down to grab Holmgren and acquire a future 1st or other assets. When we trade all of the vets, we will probably have enough picks in the draft where we conceivably could trade up high enough to grab Holmgren in addition to selecting someone with our own lotto pick as well if Holmgren moves towards or out of the top 10.
Of course anything can happen, but I think that there’s a high probability that if we want him in the draft, we can land him. It’s just a matter of if you are confident he will fill out his frame and where in the draft he projects by draft night. I’m willing to bet Blazers fans would also be a lot more excited about Holmgren if he was the second of 2 lotto picks that we bring in instead of being THE lotto pick (like honestly, best case scenario for us is he underperforms but still has flashes and is available at 10-15).
Now we’d be talking about Dame + Simons + Little + (our own high lotto pick) + Simmons + Holmgren and that doesn’t include salaries and cheap young players we get from trading the vets. Even if we had to leverage the future by trading our own future firsts with the other firsts from trade to get Simmons AND trade up for Holmgren AND draft another guy with our own lotto pick, that’s something I would mortgage the future for. And I’m also not mentioning the protection to Chicago because I assume one of the vets gets us the pick back.
This official tanking announcement can’t come soon enough.

It's not clear now if Simons has really broken out.......
Yeah, he's definitely in a slump from 3. He's shooting more 2's and is up from 40% last year to 54% this year. His Assist% is up slightly with Turnover% about the same. Defensively he's been average which is way better than his first few years.
So take away his shooting slump and he's still contributing.
Let's see how he does on this road trip. Hopefully having CJ back won't hamper him too much.how about now?![]()
