I guess we were right after all BP.
Well, sort of. Mariota has still exceeded my expectations, so I was wrong. But he made a couple of dozen poor decisions in the loss. He also lost his composure. But still, as a freshman he has been a tremendous QB.
Front-runner. Plenty of talent, but mentally weak and can't play from behind.
But that's not the point. We never said he wasn't a good QB. We both agreed that at some point he would get burned by a better defense later in the season, and boy did he ever. Stanford got so completely into his head, I don't think he could effectively run plays by the end of the game. He just kept scrambling and making bad throws. Johnny Manziel he is not.

Still splitting hairs over ridiculous nonsense. There are very few QBs in college football today who could be realistically mentioned as having enjoyed the sort of success/production that he has this season. He's having a tremendous year for a college QB regardless of what year they're in.
STOMP
Consistently in 3rd and Long against an Excellent D makes someone a mentally weak QB now and choke eh? Got it, thanks.
You didnt say that noI don't think that's what anyone said.... did I miss something?
I believe the point is that both BP and I said that at some point this season the Ducks would take a loss because of their inexperienced QB. While obviously the game wasn't entirely on Mariota (DAT played like shit/Maldosucko), he definitely played his worst game yet as a Duck. He seemed to crumble under the pressure. Does that make him "mentally weak"? No. That makes him a freshman.
You didnt say that no
This bothers me. And no its not because I'm some Mariota fan boy or anything. But you can put all time greats back there at QB and if the D is in his face before any long developing plays can happen, they arent gonna look very good. To me saying that he crumbled takes away from the excellent game the Stanford D played, and also speaks some to the Stubbornness Chip showed with some of the play calling.
in an earlier post you said that Stanford was in his head. I didnt see him panic like a Freshman would. I think more than in his head, it had to do with Stanford being in his backfield.
Yeah, overall, for a freshman he's had a most impressive year.
PS- when are you goping to stop following me around with your nose up my ass? Just wondering.
OK, that's a fair point. Let me correct myself and say I am pleasantly surprised. He has exceeded my expectations and for a freshman is becoming an outstanding QB. As someone who played QB I see his flaws better than you do, or anyone else here. That said, for this system he is a perfect fit. Every 3 games I can see improvement in nearly every aspect of his game. And yet, I see ways he can get even better. What started out as an unpolished QB with potential develop far more rapidly than I would have expected for a freshman. He truly has been both impressive and a delight to watch.
