Brandon Rush signed to 10 day contract

You're interpreting that incorrectly.

Teams are required to have 14 players on their roster (with a maximum of 15). They can have 12 or 13 on the 'active' list for each game while the other players are 'in-active' and don't suit up for games.

Per Larry's FAQ, question 79, it says:
While individual teams are only required to carry a minimum of 14 players (13 active and one inactive, or 12 active and two inactive), the NBA also guarantees a league-wide average of at least 14.5 players per team

Teams can drop below that 14-man roster for up to 2 weeks.

Boy, that’s confusing, but it looks like you’re right. 14 minimum.

I wonder why they have the minimum 12-man roster charge on the salary cap.

How does a guy not playing in the rotation being waived make the roster better? We have 15 roster spots so it's no burden. Waiving him now would be foolish and not improve the team at all.

Both of my comments were made in complete sarcasm.

It would actually not make this roster better at all. It would make it thin up front. You guys don't like Meyers. I get that. But Meyers is valuable as a back up. If you don't have him you lose a backup that can come in a drill a three just he just did last week. He has played well this year but most just simply cannot figure this out? Don't give me that "For the money" crap. Go find a backup 7 footer that likes being here and will do whatever you ask of him and let me know what he will cost. If you come back anything higher than 7 mil you don't have an argument at all. That is if you can find one anywhere at all?

lol, I was literally being sarcastic. I'm really surprised this wasn't picked up.

How would it make us better? He doesn’t even play. If anything it would just ruin the locker room. If nothing else, the guy is a supportive teammate. Stuff like that matters. He’s smart. He’ll stick in the league just by being a good cheerleader.

Literally, sarcasm. I didn't know it wasn't obvious. It sounded really stupid, I thought people would understand it was sarcasm.

Apparently we tried to make a move for Troy Williams before we signed Rush but he preferred a move to New York.

So, this is literally the cheapest move they could have made.

He's a practice player. Nothing to get either excited about or worried about.
If he can be capable of playing in the same skill set as ET, Stotts should give him ET's minutes so the millionaire might become aware and get off the seat.AAtXzOh.jpg

We waived Rakovic? We never signed him. He was never on our roster. We traded for his rights should he ever come to the nba.
The move was a cash dump and that was all Neil wanted.

I hope that Olshey took this seriously and met with the 23 year old Williams personally.

a.5 player!!!??? A half a guy, huh? That attorney was on drugs.

It should be called the Vince Carter Rule, aka Half Man, Half Amazing.

Who was the follow-up player that Shaq referred to as Half Man, Half a Season? I'm drawing a blank.

Facebook feed from BlazersEdge I think.

Hope he doesn’t stick with NY. I’m guessing he will though. They could use him more than we can. Probably why he chose them.

So now we know Rush wasn’t even our first choice. Doubt he sticks past the first ten.

Former Houston Rockets small forward Troy Williams has agreed to a 10-day contract with the Knicks on Monday night and is expected to join the team Wednesday, legendary AAU coach Boo Williams, Troy’s uncle, told SNY.tv.

”Yeah, he agreed to a 10-day with them,” Boo Williams said by phone. “He had four other offers [including Portland and Dallas] but he wanted to go to New York.”

That's the second player we struck out on on the waiver wire. What a damn shame. Granted, this dude will prolly get more of a shot to play in NY.

Will Rush's 100k or whatever he will get for his 10 day remain on our cap if we let him go after the first ten? Will we have even less than our original 570k before tax threshold to offer another dude before the deadline in March?

He will get about $40k for ten days, won't he?

I still think Wilcox could contribute now that he’s back. Rush could just be insurance. If Wilcox keeps progressing I think well let Rush go and sign him so that he’s eligible for the playoffs.

Thank you! So my initial theory, that the required minimum can go below 14 during the season (other than just Active/Inactive changes), was right. Surprise.
But they can't stay below. Obviously this isn't a theory????? They are below. Not really a surprise? Not sure why all the fuss. The team has to carry 14 players. That is fact. They needed to sign someone. That also is fact. They needed to do it by yesterday. That is fact. Figure it out.

Blazers Sign Brandon Rush To 10-Day Contract
February 21st, 2018 at 6:52pm CST by Luke Adams
FEBRUARY 21, 6:52pm: The signing is official, the Blazers announced on their website.

FEBRUARY 20, 7:55am: The Trail Blazers will fill one of their two open roster spots by signing veteran swingman Brandon Rush to a 10-day contract this week, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (Twitter link).

Rush, a lottery pick back in 2008, has spent time with the Pacers, Warriors, Jazz, and Timberwolves over the course of nine NBA seasons. Known for his outside shooting ability, the 32-year-old has a career .402 3PT%. While he didn’t play a major role for Minnesota last season, averaging a modest 4.2 PPG, he continued to knock down outside shots when he took them, with a .386 3PT%.

This past offseason, Rush caught on with the Bucks for training camp, but failed to earn a spot on Milwaukee’s regular season roster, having been cut just before opening night. In Portland, he’ll get an opportunity to establish himself as a player worth keeping on the roster down the stretch.

As we outlined on Monday, the Blazers are one of four NBA teams that needs to sign a player this week in order to get back up to 14 players on standard contracts. Portland, Washington, Cleveland, and Atlanta all dipped to 13 players around the trade deadline, which is only permitted for two weeks.

The Blazers are well positioned to remain under the luxury tax following Rush’s signing, since his contract will feature a modest cap hit of $83,129, as ESPN’s Bobby Marks details (via Twitter). Portland will still be about $573K below the tax line after signing Rush.

That cushion would allow the Blazers to re-sign Rush to another 10-day contract and – eventually – a rest-of-season deal and stay out of the tax, though the equation would become more complicated if the club wants to add a 15th player to its roster at some point.

We are so hard up for new talent that a 10 day contract player thread already has five pages. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Being a Yankee fan like myself, that's when you go back and re-read news articles about the Marlins trading Stanton to the Yanks. Then you know all is well with the world again!

Marlins are actually in good hands with Jeter and Gary Denbo. Denbo revolutionized the Yanks farm system. But the fans are so hosed off from the tanking now I doubt they want to give them a chance. Fernandez's death totally fucked that team.

Doubt we’d sign a 15th guy. We already have Baldwin and Wilcox.

I’m not as familiar with Rush’ game but if he could prove to be more than just a set shooter, he could replace Connaughton in the rotation.
