Also I can't hit...Same! I wish the grocery store was paying me more for my baseball skills but, alas, NIL wasn't around, had to keep that eligibility open!

You'll never have to mow a lawn again!My kid…..

Got no problem with this. It's the individuals own name, image, and likeness. You should be able to make money off of yourself if you desire.

Ideally you have something in place to avoid parent exploitation. So it's not like child actors. Those are the hiccups you sort through while it's still allowed, instead of letting larger companies exploit it.Parents too right? If they want to make money off their kids names, images, and likenesses. Lines can blur fast.
Case in point!

I thought your point was that NIL is linked to "social media disease". If your only point was that great players will make money reardless, then we agree.
You're citing that all these bad things are currently happening, pre high-school NIL. You haven't provided any evidence that this new will be a net-negative. Could it have negatives to it? Of course. Most change does.
Well said FAMSIf you want to make a case to ban social media for children, I'm all ears.
This thread is about getting paid for name/image/likeness, which is very different that social media.
I couldn’t disagree with you more. This is a fantastic opportunity for kids to get their first real look into the business side of sports. I love it.The minds are still developing and impressionable. Emotional. We can agree to disagree but i see this as another set back in our youth.
All focused on an image instead of getting an education. All focused on getting social fame. Increased teen vanity. But most will be let down, some to the point of emotional devastation.
There is no long term good in this.

Are dogs allowed to profit off of their name, image, and likeness?
Asking for myself.
Let kids be kids. Let the parents handle the business side until they are 18.
Uh, beg to differ.
Back in the real old days (talking old-west), kids 14 and older were essentially considered adults and expected to work and act as such. Even young kids spent a lot of time working on the farm and had chores.
Letting kids be kids can also lead to less responsible adults as they haven't learned many of the realities of life.
I don't know if any of you know who JR Simplot was but he started the Simplot company when he left home at 14 (in the 1920s) to find his own way and ended up starting his own company and became a billionaire. That company (still private) now has 14,000 or so employees mostly in US & Australia but also in Canada, Mexico, Argentina, India, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and other places across the globe.
You can read a bit about JR Simplot on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._R._Simplot
Sheltering kids from responsibility and the realities of life is a failure to teach and to train.
/end rant

I think we agree on a lot of the issues teens are facing today; we just disagree on what is good or bad for them.
It appears you believe why teens are impressionable we should exclude them from facing real world situation such as adversity, work ethic, failure, etc. to make sure they are not let down. Problem with that theory is when they go out on their own as an adult, they are totally unequiped to handle these exact situations. I believe exposing them to difficult situations in a controlled environment while still under adult supervision is the best thing for them, not the worst.
Regardless, the OSAA has made their decision.
"Hey you kids, get your name, image, and likeness off my lawn!"

I care nothing about my lawn( its still brown and dead right now).
I do however care about the long term work ethic and skill set our youth seems to be losing. more kids know how to create an image than know how to replace a toilet or change a tire or build a fire.
Seriously concerning to me. Has nothing to do with a selfish lawn….
I guess I'm just struggling to see how giving kids the monetary rights to their name, image and likeness affects learning how to change a toilet.I care nothing about my lawn( its still brown and dead right now).

Change a toilet for a kid and they can shit for a day. Teach a kid how to change a toilet and they can shit for life!
What do you mean by working on an image? This allows an athlete to get paid and not lose college eligibility in their sport.Time spent during the day. Ive said it before. Working on an image detracts from a quality education of actual things that impact life. We already struggle in the work force with unskilled youth labor. To me, this will just compound that.
I guess i fail to see especially, in todays economy, how this isn't a concern.
Been around for decades. Your point?

I think it's worse to "train youth for the workforce" to be a cog in a machine than it is allowing a small number of youth to profit from who they are.
You obviously care and you have a ton of great firsthand life experience, it might be something you should look into volunteering with.

How do you know I haven't? Or have not done similar thing's?![]()
There are many of us cat loving, youth caring folks around. One just must not be jaded to see so.Because you're a cat person.
