Why is there a trade exception? When players are traded w/ BYC status or PPP, they bring over a trade exception? So besides their lowered salary (that season), a TE? That doesn't seem right.

It's either for Miller or something else but I read somewhere that you can't combine a player with a trade exception, can anyone clarify that for me

No you can't. And you can't combine them w/ other exceptions only picks.

I guess its pure speculation, but I'm thinking that trade exception could end up in Memphis?

It's a good thing to have, of course, but I don't think it was necessarily engineered. It's just a natural consequence of the huge differential in salaries between Kidd and the key player returning. Dallas had to find enough salary to send back to get over the threshhold, and that's what they did. The rest I'm sure the Nets are quite happy to have as an exception, which they may or may not use immediately.
 
how the hell does a trade exemption work???!! can anyone explain this to me?

I kind of disagree. the trade exception was created by including Darryl Armstrong and Antoine Wright in the deal, who didn't have to be included . . . the Nets could have kept one of those players (keeping both would have left them with 16 players, I believe).

Nets could also turn this into a three-way deal and ship Van Horn, Magloire, and one of Dallas' picks to Memphis for Mike Miller immediately.

Well, the Nets were able to clean out a lot of garbage in this trade.

Hassell is, unfortunately, the type of guy Lawrence Frank will love. He's the Jason Collins of SGs. If they don't outright cut him or pawn him off to another team, he'll be playing 20 mpg, book it.

Can't get too excited about the trade exception. Nets have bungled $15M worth of them before (Cliff, Elden Campbell, Marc Jackson, AND losing 2 2nd round picks). Hopefully they'll take a look at Seattle (Kurt Thomas and 2 1st rounders for the Rashard Lewis TE) and learn some lessons.

Apparently, one of the first round picks is going to Memphis for Mike Miller - I don't get it. The Miller trade doesn't make sense for rebuilding. The team seems hell-bent on staying in this 6-to-8 seed zone.
 
Guess we'll see what Thorn has planned after this trade is done, we all know VandeThorn isn't done yet
 
Don't discount Frank's presence as coach for why Van Horn was willing to do this.

If he was some asshole of a coach I doubt Van Horn agrees to get involved.
 
If this were the ABA, then Kidd would be playing for the West in the second half of the All-Star Game.

Too bad the NBA's got a huge stick up their ass. That'd be awesome.

I certainly don't claim to have read the CBA or to have a real understanding of how trade exceptions are created. But how does including Wright and Armstrong create the trade exception? It may indicate that a second deal is in the works that will bring back one more player than is sent out, but that's as far as I'm following it.

Thorn isn't trying to go into tank mode I think he's to proud for that, my feeling is that he wants to tweak this team keep them competitive just address some of the short comings this team had coming into the season, Stro brings athletic ability, Diop is a more athletic version of Collins , Harris is lightning quick and if Thorn does swing a deal for Miller that gives the team outside shooting that it did not have before

A trade exception is created when there is an imbalance in the salaries going and coming. It can only be created if the team receiving higher salries is either under the cap, or has a trade exception from an earlier deal that they can pass along. In this case, there wouldn't be a salary imbalance--or as great an imbalance--if Wright and Armstrong weren't in the deal. Since Armstrong was NEVER mentioned before as a component, I'm reasoning that there is a speciofic reason the nets want a larger trade exception, instead of an expiring contract (which is what they'd have if Armstrong wasn't included).

I don't see how there is a huge trade exception created.

When the Nets traded KMart to the Nuggets we got a trade exception because they were under the cap.

When Carter was traded, the salaries weren't exactly even. I don't recall a trade exception created for either team. Or am I mistaken? Did the Gasol and Shaq trades create trade exceptions as those weren't for even salaries either?

In Dumpy's example above, I don't see how that creates a trade exception, as trade exception can't be bundled w/ players. So the before mentioned TE & 2nd round pick for Wright would be combined in this swap.

Sorry. His offense takes six months to learn minimum because most players in the NBA have never seen a pick and roll or pick and pop.

He will play only six players for the rest of the season.

Reading the FAQ, a trade has to be "non simultaneous" to create a TE. By definition, a multi player deal cannot be "non simultaneous". So unless this deal is split into two or smaller deals with one or more involving no more than one player on each side, there can't be a TE created from the overall deal.

Also, it's now being reported that Armstrong is not in the deal.
 
Frank is not going to go 6 deep the rest of the way, Management, the player especially would stage a revolt, Frank will find a way to get everyone in, we are now going to see what kind of a coach Frank is
 
Great trade.

We need to cut Darrell and sign Nick Fazekas to a contract so we completely rob them.
 
thorn should have asked for unprotected picks while the mavs are all so in a giving mood...
