Griner is going to be in Russia for a long time. Unless we have some Russian of value sitting in an American prison right now. Then we are basically hostage negotiating. Bad precedent. She’s screwed.

Less than 1% of defendants are acquitted so her best bet was to plead dumb foreigner.

Pleading guilty should reduce her sentence but Russia is going to milk this until we give them some high profile prisoner we have of theirs. It's a shame Russia has archaic cannabis laws.

I don’t agree that this automatically blows the planted theory.

Imo it’s highly likely that the Biden administration told her to plead guilty so it’s easier to get out of there. Especially since I saw yesterday or the day before that Biden was working on her release. Before they didn’t really comment on it

I don't think so...she got caught with contraband and they probably can prove it which is why a guilty plea speeds up the process....not that it's planted. I've seen a lot of people arrested in airports for contraband....it's common but she just happens to be a high profile case. I'm going to say she did what thousands of hippies leaving Thailand have done....assumed they could keep their stash instead of throwing it in the trash before entering the airport. Thailand used to be brutal about transporting hash ..Singapore is as well....in Taiwan they'd just send you home and throw it away for you.

Why don't you go over to Moscow and try fuckin' negotiating with those terrorists? Do you think it's easy? Do you understand that the more public figures that speak out, the more difficult it becomes to get her exchanged? It helps russia realize what a valuable trade asset she is and they just up the price.

I still don’t understand why anyone would fly to a Russia with everything going on with Ukraine.
 
She went to Russia before invasion of Ukraine.

Brittany was arrested on February 17th, about two weeks after the Biden administration started declassifying intelligence stating Russia were about to invade Ukraine. To be fair Biden chose to declassify the intelligence regarding the invasion because many leaders of European countries didn't believe Putin would follow through with his threats. I personally did think he would follow through, but whatever.
 
Russia sent an American who brought cannabis into the country to 20 years in prison a few years ago...the guy is still in prison I believe and an Israeli-American woman was in jail for cannabis for 10 months before Brittany got arrested....Russia has a history of brutal cannabis laws...if you sign a contract to work there it's something you should be aware of in the case of Brittany....fame shouldn't make a difference.....all of them should be released. We've so far been unable to secure the release of an American Embassy worker also arrested and imprisoned in Russia. I don't think Brittany's chances look too good given Russia's history of political prisoners and harsh sentences....hopefully something changes but it's not like we've gained favor with the Russian courts.

It was only a couple weeks before the invasion happened. Russia had been building up forces for months and the US was releasing intelligence that it was going to happen.

And with all that said, I don’t know how anyone from the LGBTQ community could go to Russia. It was always dangerous for them. Seems like the risk would be much more than the reward.
 
Grinder said 2020 was the first time she voted. She was clearly not politically engaged but I am sure you could say that about a lot of athletes.
