Ric just reported Detroit is targeting Gordon and Villanueva and Portland (THATS US!) is targeting Hedo and Andre Miller with Miller coming in a sign and trade. Most other teams are taking a wait and see approach although there is a lot of suitors for Sheed.

I've always thought Dumars was a great GM but I'm really starting to doubt him. Can't find the right coach, trades Iverson for Billups, and now trying to sign Gordon the "gunner" and Charlie V.

ESPN's Ric Bucher reports that free agent Hedo Turkoglu is most likely to sign with the Trail Blazers.

They can offer him about $8 million per season, although he was hoping to cash in for closer to $10 million per.

With our (projected) 7.5M it's 4/33.6 or 5/43.5

8% is the max for other teams free agents, right? that would end up being 4 years for 35.84 mil starting at 8 mil a season. starting at 7.5 it does end up with the 4/33.6 as you say.

Detroit needs scorers. They were 21st in the league for offensive efficiency last year. Gordon is a scorer. CV is a good shooting big-man to replace Wallace.

These guys make some sense. They also need to find some post scoring - no clue where this is going to come from...

What are you talking about? Roy and Aldridge are both already under contract for 2009-10 on their rookie scale contracts. Any offers tendered to them would be extensions for beyond 2009-10 and would have absolutely ZERO impact on our cap situation this summer. I say lock them, up immediately. They are the cornerstones of our franchise. You want to keep them happy and lock them up long term the first chance you get.

Paying your current players what they deserve, without hesitation, sends a clear message to the free agents we are courting. It says we are committed to winning and have an owner who isn't afraid to open his pocket book to those who deserve it. In these tight economic times, that's a very powerful message to put out there for guys who are looking for a new team to join.

I guess that could go to the top of the list. I didn't mean to put it in a certain order, but you're right. Get those guys signed for the next five or so years and worry about the rest. I'm not too worried that we won't get it done.

I'm also positive we'll get it done. So, if we're going to do it anyway, do it now while the positive message can make an impression on any free agents we are courting. If we wait and do it later in the summer, the message will be meaningless. Do it now while free agents are looking for their next home.

Our only real competition is OKC, and they have Durant. So, they aren't likely to pursue Hedo (more likely Millsap). Memphis, is a crappy team, with a cheap ass owner, Toronto, has not committed to re-signing Bosh, Detroit is rebuilding and Sacramento is an abysmal team in a hellhole location. We are the only team with significant cap space that had a winning record last season. We are a team on the rise. Making a commitment to our two best players, and then following that up with an offer to a significant fee agent, sends the message that we aren't just satisfied making the play-offs, we are committed to being contenders for the next five years (and beyond).

Unfortunately I looked at his stats from last year. He was worse then Blake in almost every single category outside of defense. Further, his defense wasn't really that much better.

In sort, trading for Felton would be a out of the frying pan move.

As to Bucher's report, I really don't like Miller very much. However, if Portland can get him for a reasonable deal that is only 3 years then I guess it would be ok. He is better then Blake and 3 years might just be enough time to determine if Bayless really is going to be the PG of the future.
