Bust a Scoot?

I think 1/3 of Scoot's FGA's have been threes due to the way he is being used by CB. Much of the time he is the off guard watching Ant or Brogdon doing what Scoot was brought in to do. He pretty much gets the kick out when the others get stopped or the shot clock is nearing zero.

that might explain some of it. Looking at his shot clock numbers as part of his shooting marks:

gauging by eFG%, his shooting gets progressively worse as the shot clock counts down. And his assisted FG rate climbs dramatically suggesting that he does get a lot of kick-outs

His post actually had a bunch of positive in it. I was just messing with him.
I hope he knows I was not really being serious.
Just having fun with it.

you must have deleted it...?

I've said before I enjoy the way you and Wyachi enter discussions sideways and at odd angles, then cut holes in the floor and escape thru them in the dark.

Billups in his postgame last night said he has been telling Scoot to pull up if defenders keep dropping that far under. He said Scoot has to start applying what he spends his time training on into practice in games. Scoot echoed the same in his postgame. I like that mentality.

His two biggest issues that are leading most of his problems are his finishing at the rim and his shooting. Once he starts improving even to average levels at those two things, his game will take an astronomical leap.

Just needs reps as Brogdon said. Trading Malcolm is paramount.

It seems really obvious to me that they're HARDCORE showcasing MB right now.

I'd wonder how much attention GM's pay to recent games...probably a little mainly to track health? But if recent games did matter, than Brogdon's value has to be high because those are great numbers. Portland also went 4-4 in those games (anti-tank)

So if you REALLY understand the game and how rookies and younger players adapt and make that transition……. Last night means JUST as much as his 3 point 6 turnover game just a week ago or whatever he had, or tomorrow nights 5 points, 1 assist, 5 turnover game……. Ups and Downs…..part of the learning process. Give this kid time…..he WILL be fine.

Probably less if he hadn't just won 6MOTY and was a ROY.

NBA ninjas - Trained in the arts of loitering in the shadows, until the commanding officers lower their guard.

I would never say Scoot's a bust. My opinion is Henderson would do better with a coaching staff that knew how to exploit his untapped potential.

--run this complex stuff like Dame & Ant-- has delivered mixed results. Putting Scoot at the 3-4 defensively because he's a physical powerhouse, creates gigantic gaps around the rim for easy opponent baskets.

Scoot should be the #1. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that Scoot "could" play off-ball combo anything.

Look what happened in garbage time 4th quarter last night. Scoot with 3 wings and a Center was the most electrifying outburst we've seen from him. He didn't have to defer, or try and run the oobily doobily triple weave Billups triangle. He just grabbed the ball and played Scoot basketball.

Did anyone notice when Philly did try to trap him?? Scoot busted through the wall and blistered Mo Bamba with powerful drives to the rack.

Henderson is a weapon that's been locked in the cabinet for too long. Having Scoot adjusting to Billups offense hasn't worked. Why not develop an offense that Henderson can run more efficiently?

Portland hasn't committed to Scoot yet. They are committed to Ant and Brogdon. Is what it is.

This entire season is going through a big pile of Lego pieces to see what we have. I don’t think anyone will have any expectations put on them until after this summer’s draft.

Scoot has definitely looked better over the last ten games:

I mean, not AWESOME, but a fuckton better than he DID look. Drawing fouls is a particular strength.

Pretty tragic that Jerami is so obviously our best player.

I find this encouraging, because I see Jalen Green as a lot like Scoot: super-hyped in the G-league, then super-inefficient in the NBA.

Consistency

Consistency

Consistency

Flashes of dominance and then followed up with a dud.

Even though he scored zero points in the second half he showed flashes of being unstoppable tonight.

There was a very specific play in particular: he muscled Giannis in mid-air and finished the shot. He did that as a 19 year old rook

I know Malcom may eat some of Scoots playin time but for his yr at least I think it's good having Malcom around for Scoots development.

Ant had Dame and CJ and you can see he was paying attention because he has elements of both in his offensive game. Combined with his natural athletic superiority, that gives him an offensive upside superior to either of them. He's a true 3-level scoring threat. What will determine if he ever gets as good as them depends on him becoming more consistent, but the tutelage and tools are there.

The jury's still out on Scoot, but he's trained with Steph, I think was around Dame a little before things broke down there between Lillard and the Blazers, and he's gotten to both play and watch Ant and Malcolm, two players who excel in very different ways but whose strengths Scoot has the ability to mimic (Ant's athletic ability, Malcolm's strength and savvy). At times, you see him incorporating things they do. Last night, he did a big sidestep to create separation and get up a 3 in the second half -- he missed it, but that was a very Dame move. He's definitely getting to study up close with guys that can help his game.

Did I just feed trolls? I hope not, Giving them an opportunity to avoid the troll label here... time will tell...
