"By Ben Golliver"

Well if you want to get into it, let's get into it . . .
Not really, but I'd never turn away a fan.
since I hate the tone of the response as though you are talking down to me. I see that tone with others too and it gets old quick
If I hurt your feelings, I’m sorry. If you don’t like what I have to say, don’t read it, and/or don’t respond. If you hate my response now, just know you really are not going to like my response if you continue to talk about me. Fair warning. ;)

I didn’t tell anyone to go to BE, or not go to BE. I didn’t imply anyone should stop posting because they disagree, or can’t f***ing write. I didn’t call anyone who responded "stupid," even though this response of yours definitely is not refrigerator material. You are clearly defensive, in that you insist on talking about me. What purpose does your response serve? Did you feel better after writing it? As to your feelings, I generally respond to stupid people in a manner that stupid people hate. I don’t know if there is a connection here.

OK so you didn't say anti-christ. Reading between the lines, you are talking about Ben as though he is one notch below anti-christ. So be dismayed all you want, reading through this thread I read a serious agenda against Ben that goes beyond trying to call him out for using other articles. I rarely see someone post with as much disdain for someone . . . and this is a basketball forum that had Felton and Bonzi as players at one time.
You want to say words have meaning and you didn't say anti-christ. Give me a break.
Give you a break, after all your kind words? If you don’t like what I have to say, don’t read it (in case you missed it the first time I wrote it). Unless you’re implying that my writing is so captivating, you can’t help but read it. But I don’t want to assume.

Maybe you could explain what this “serious agenda” is because I have no idea what the f*** you are talking about. Does this stem from some kind of Occupy Wall Street PTDD (post traumatic demonstrator disorder) you are experiencing or something? Why do you allow my opinion to affect you on such an emotional level? I know. I am a big deal. :)
Your whole point about "By Ben Golliver" is while it is technically right (he changed the title so his fingerprints are on it) it implies that he wrote it . . .
So, I’m “technically right” even though your English “is while it is” technically wrong, and… uhm… what is your point? You felt the need to tell me that you think I am a vindictive, bitching, hateful person? I see. #thickskin You can’t hurt my feelings because I don’t have any. If you have feelings, don’t respond like this unless your goal is to make me laugh.
so you can bitch about someone because of what they imply but we can't read beyond your words as to what they might imply?
“Bitching,” because you aren't entertained – I will double my efforts. Certainly it can’t be because I respond to people, in a thread I started. Do you need the last word or something? You not only keep reading what I write, but keep responding. You’re killin’ me Smalls.

Let me spell it out for you – there is no need to imply anything from what I wrote, because I explicitly wrote what I was saying. It was unambiguous, and laid out in great detail. I assure you, that I left no stone unturned, and it requires no extra effort on the part of the reader to derive greater meaning from my response. Maybe you should read slower, perhaps with a dictionary in hand. I don't know what's worse, your reading comprehension or that your opinion can be so easily swayed.
If you do want me to "stick to your words" . . .. how do you know Ben is lazy. Do you know what he does all day, how long he spends on his job. You want the board to think that his job is to write all these articles and he is lazy because he doesn't. How do we know if his job is to write or bring hits to a website. Again you are making assumptions about his job even though he never said anything about his job duties. If his job is to bring hits to a website I wouldn't say he is lazy at all but rather just aggressive at his job.
My job is to steal rims off of vehicles… it’s my job… aggressively so…

This actually makes more sense to me than what you wrote, which is to say it doesn't make much sense.

As for “aggressive”, I don’t think that word means what you want it mean. You are quite literally making up a definition for a word which means something else. Like bands, and racks, and swag, and whatever other words the kids are poorly rhyming and affixing new meaning to what are otherwise existing words with existing meanings in the English language.

I know enough about BE, the contributing authors’ writings, and the authors’ writings who contribute by virtue of Golliver hacking the meat out of their real work and putting it on BE with his name on it (By Ben Golliver) to write intelligently about it. I’m talking about Golliver’s writing and his “work” on BE about the Blazers - which you agreed with. So you object to your buddy Ben being called lazy, and you’re going to let me know just how deeply you were hurt by it by talking about me? You sure showed me.

For contrast, what you don’t know about me I could just about squeeze into the Grand Canyon, but by all means, please continue to diminish your argument by throwing labels on me. Football is on, and I’m being asked why I’m laughing out loud. Oops.
Random Fact Alert:
Whoa. Take it easy Golliver. You’re using my lame material now? This is like a sad clown getting gored at a rodeo – painfully hilarious.
many websites are in the business to make money and they do that by generating hits to their website. It absolutely addresses your point as bringing an alternative as to why Ben is so aggressive . .. you are just so deaf with hate you don't want to listen to other explanations for 'by Ben Golliver" you have the only answer which is he is lazy no talent hack and anyone who says different is missing your point. Anther random fact alert, not everyone is going to agree with you on a forum board.
What are these websites, and businesses, and money you speak of? Go on. I may not know how to turn a computer on, but I’m not deaf, and I don’t hate anyone save for Bill Kennedy. I don’t care to know you, let alone hate you, or Golliver, or your tone. This is purely for entertainment purposes, and I am extremely entertaining, and entertained. Why can’t you just be a happy for me? At least you are an admitted :hater:, which means I've made it to the big time. I can die happy now.

I'm quite familiar with BE, and Golliver’s “hack a journalist” on BE, so feel free to re-read the OP for my take on it. ;)

And you plagiarized “Random Fact Alert” again!?!? Golliver much? Oops, I’m in trouble again for laughing out loud. :(
I might have skimmed through your whole poop analogy because rather than try to analyze what were trying to saying, you have lost me in this thread because all I read from you is hate on Ben.
So, you have an admitted bias towards Ben, whom you know less about his “work” than I do (according to you) and you’re saying I need to dumb down my writing so you can understand and appreciate it better? I’ll take it under advisement.
And now just because you seem to really want to stick it to Ben . . . I think I'll click on his site for a while and encourage other to join to really see what Ben is all about rather than take some vindictive agenda ridden poster's word for it.
It’s funny to me that you think my intent is to influence people. Flattering as it may seem, I don’t care to change people’s opinion. It is a losing proposition no matter the facts. I will admit I am touched you allow yourself to be so emotionally influenced by my writing. Your response is quite the eye opener, and perhaps I should reassess my abilities. Go buy me a Twix and season 4 of Game of Thrones when it comes out on Blue Ray, and we’ll test this revelation. Quickly, no talking!

Anyway, this progressive digression of off-topic silliness is boring for everyone except me. And more personal attacks leave little to the imagination that you are going to stomp your click finger on over to BE out of spite as opposed to genuine interest in Golliver's "work." I made you go to BE, and tell me that you were going. If I was to dole out punishment for your personal slights, I would make you spend hours on BE. It’s a win/win for me.

Hey Fanatic, we know that Treaty and Sly and maybe one other here have entertained Golliver at a couple of meetings, and feel their buddy is being criticized.

So that's my message to fanatic.

As for you, BF, the above fanatic, Treaty of Batum, probably owes Golliver a couple of drinks. He's just paying him back here.

Clearly. lol

am i wrong here in thinking that the 'by ben whateverthefuck' is just how the CMS displays user posts? ie it references the person who posts the item? i had a look around at some articles and they seem to credit in most cases the source article usually. This model of lifting news to rebadge with a comment or additional resourcing is mega common and the only reason why places like gawker etc exist. they play off the credibility of the base content then try grab whatever search coverage they can.

aside from that it's more a commentary style of journalism, its not pure - which i think is where things are falling down in this thread. e-journos are mostly not even in the same breath of consideration as traditional journos - but it is what it is, if you do the above, you're likely to get some credit - deserved or not.

The system supports it. This is really the best argument, but nevertheless bush league in its merits. As for a guy making money doing it, and "working" as a "writer" for SI, the argument is extremely weak. What would you say if the Oregonian did that? People break the law too because they can get away with it. Ever sat in a no passing lane and not been passing anyone? People are selfish. We do what we want even when there are consequences. I am aware people buy counterfeit junk from China and things made in sweat shops. If y'all want to buy those products, or contribute to those individuals, have at it.

personally, i think it's cheap and undeserved but the system supports and rewards it, and you can't knock someone for taking advantage. I don't know the guy at all, but deleting her post without comment is pretty shit imo

This is exactly my take, although I can and do hold it against him, and don't click on BE anymore as a result. It's lazy, hack-journalism, even if its perceive as "the norm." Ben isn't interested in what people have to say, unless they are stroking his ego. Do the opposite, and expect your opinion to get deleted.

As for e-journalists, I understand your point, but to put Golliver in the same category as Joe Freeman (another e-journalist) is quite the insult to Joe Freeman in my opinion. So, I'm sticking with "lazy, no-talent hack" to describe Golliver. ;) Thanks for the take.

OK then . . . don't know what to make out of all that other than you think very highly of yourself and there is a bit of irony when you mock Ben's sense of humor.

I can tell we are going to have a blast together on this board. Little tip . . . you don't have to mask swearing in this forum. Look forward to your posts . . .

It's said that brevity is the soul of wit.

And with that, I bid you all "good night."

Truth be told, I don't take myself too seriously. I am well aware others may perceive quite differently of my writing, and that's ok. Nothing ironic about my sense of humor - I'm the funniest person I know. ;) Swearing has it's place. It too often convey's a sense of outrage, and anger, which I don't really feel. So I try to avoid it.

TL. DR.

I bet that guy you quoted has been waiting to get that off his chest for days and thought it was really clever when he typed it out. Wait, why am I laughing? I probably shouldn't. It’s like laughing at the slow kid in class when he drools on himself.

The “It's said” he would be referring to is Shakespeare, the character Polonius from Hamlet to be exact. As it were, Polonius is a wind bag and the context is one of irony. He said it about himself. I can only assume this rube you quoted was talking about himself, which is odd in that it was his only “contribution” in the entire thread. Let’s assume he was unaware of all this. I can then only assume the jealousy for my writing is eating him up in side, and it bothers him greatly that anyone would be interested in what I had written.

So, I must ask the obvious question: is this going to be an ongoing thing where he makes some smart ass remark that is entirely off topic, at my expense, when he can no longer hold the jealousy inside? If it’s attention he needs, he should respond to someone that can read his posts. Were it not for his obnoxious, territorial aggression toward me, me being new to the forum, I would no doubt have been willing to help him construct sentences that he could take credit for and that others will find interesting… when I was done helping barfo of course.

That quote is actually ironic for another reason though. How interesting would the character Polonius be if all he said was that quote? More so, would people all over the world even know who Shakespear was if all he wrote was that quote? It is not brevity that is the soul of wit, but the ability to ramble on about anything and everything and still be interesting. There are many interesting people on this forum who have contributed many interesting takes. I have found him to not be one of those people, at least not when he’s busy trying to hurt my feelings which has only been the case.

HUGE game tonight! GO BLAZERS!!!

Wait. I lost track of at whom certain pronouns were pointed. Am I the one you say is busy trying to hurt your feelings?

I don't know if you know this (not trying to insult your intelligence or anything, I sincerely do not know) but TL. DR. means "Too Long. Didn't Read." Which, IMHO, is a pretty danged funny reply to a post with that particular ShakespearE "in side" it...

Perhaps I failed in being more explicit. No, all the pronouns were directed at the individual you quoted. ;) And yes (although I must confess I had to google it first :( ) I did know what TL DR meant before responding. I only saw his post because you quoted it. I do think it's important to know what I am responding to before I type. It's sort of a habit. As to my typos and orthography, neither reflect intelligence, and if the meaning is still conveyed in my writing (on a Blazer forum no less) - mission accomplished.

Orthography? That's like Dr. Scholls right?

If you keep using those big words, you might slow down the conversations in this place to a crawl :devilwink:

Orthography = spelling. When some attention whore wants to give you shit about your spelling on a forum, where meaning is all that matters and grammar is an afterthought, feel free to whip out that word. It shuts them up. I don't know why, but it just does. lol

Keep in mind I have kind of an OCD "point out funny typos" thing. Unfortunately for most, my "funny typo" bar is set so low it even a world-class limbo dancer would hurt himself trying to get under it.

Please tell me you at least chuckled a little bit when you discovered the meaning of TL DR...

If they want to be grammar Nazi's that's their prerogative

You went from worst to first, if that helps. lol

But I spelled prerogative correctly, so it cancels it out.

Not to be confused with pejorative, which is why this thread continues. lol

If I had balls, my one desire for this thread would be for people to get off of them and stay on topic.

Telling people to get off your balls will only have the opposite effect.
