I have said this many times in this forum, the Republican party has a racist problem. Through the actions, inactions, and words from many in the party, including it's figurehead Trump, people who are openly racist feel that they now have a voice in the republican party.

This does not mean that all republicans are racists.

This does not mean that there are no racists in the dem party.

But openly racist people feel they can be openly racist under the republican banner.

That's not a problem for dems to deal with.

And it's only a problem if repubs feel that it is.

You can't really think that no racists are democrats, can you?

And would an openly racist Democrat congressional member be the only thing that would prove it to you?
they in elected office? are they as vile as the ones in the GOP?

Or I'll frame this better so my point is clear because it keeps getting skewed: Is overt racism one of the core tenets of these people's political platforms? Because it damn sure is for quite a few GOP members in office, and it was for the guy who just left this morning.

its a huge problem. But as a commoner, what more can one do than vote and support the removal of racists?
No its not a “loaded” question, its an honest one.
Are we to switch parties and affiliate with what we believe to be a style of government economics that hurts our future?(not looking to debate the styles or if they work or not)

its an honest question

Talk to your local and county republican party elected officials. Not saying that they like or support racists, tell them that if they do, you won't support them and will work to get them voted out of office and replaced by other republicans.

Or run for Canby city council.

Or something like that.

I think that's why you (not YOU, just all of us) see a lot of posts or things online that basically say, you may not be racist if you voted Trump, but you decided that racism wasn't a deal breaker. It fits here, I believe. It's deciding on what is most important to you with your vote.
Generalizing here, so not saying all republicans, or all voters, etc. But, is it more important that, say, your 401K continues to grow, and gives you a healthy and safe future, at the expense of the poor and the minorities?
Is abortion an all or nothing vote killer, where you can excuse every other deplorable thing thrown out, if abortion is opposed?
Do you feel that it's worth it to sacrifice a bigger chunk of your paycheck to support programs that help out the poor, hungry, old, etc.

There's not a clear answer to it, and people will get called out for their votes. It's ranking your priorities. If you think that ultimately the republican party helps YOU, then vote that way. But if people get upset because your vote shits on others, I think you answer with well, I voted X because it helps me. Or I care more about Y than anything else, so I choose that.

I actually think I would be an amazing politician. I am a natural born leader. I'm a people person. Maybe I should look into this. I grew up surrounded by politicians (good and bad)...... Ivancie, Goldshmidt, Blumenhour, Wyden all within a few blocks. Maybe it's in my neighborhood blood. @SlyPokerDog, would I have S2's backing?

FAMS! C'Mon.....that wouldn't even be fair. Old fashioned Alabama ass-whoopin'!
Ass long as I don't have to use big words, I'd crush this kid.

I'm not saying you two should run against each other.

Think about it, that is what this forum WANTS. That's what this forum NEEDS. Honestly a poll taken tonight would have me a 90% favorite to win it. No doubt...... Remember all my followers on here?

I voted for Trump, and am not a racist or support racism. So GTFO with that bullshit. And yall wonder why this country is so divided.

I think you'll do well calling Friday night bingo games for seniors ....especially seeing as how their eyesight is usually not that great...you could be an elected bingo official!

Hey I believe you...but just be aware you voted for a racist and he enabled racists to take up arms..doesn't mean you'd do that but a lot did. I think all that will die down now anyway

Some of the most racist people i've known were democrats. Union dudes working in the shipyards, truck drivers, railroaders, relatives etc.
Racism know's no boundaries is what Ive learned in my almost 70 years.

Im neither party as I refused to be pushed to line up with one way of thinking on issues.

Im for compromise for the good of the people and getting things done. Im glad we have Joe as President as I think he can bridge the gap and has the nards to take on the extremist wacko's regardless.
I got news for you. Most of those union dock workers and truck drivers turned full republican and voted for Trump both times.

I couldnt bring myself to vote for Trump....in either election.
However, I know a lot of good, honest, kind people who voted for him inspite of his MANY shortcomings. This false equivalency that Trump supporters are racist needs to stop.

These good, honest, kind people still supported him after four years or changed their minds? If they stuck with him I doubt your description of them

This false narrative that people are saying that all Trump supporters are racist needs to stop.

Anyone who voted for Trump was willing to accept racism. You can assign whatever guilt you choose to that.

If you voted for Trump you supported racism and fascist ideals.

No two ways about that. Doesn't make you a bad person. Maybe you just didn't know better.

Hold on...... you have been OK with how Trump handled himself the past 4 years? And then think you can tell people, how did you so eloquently put it....."to get the fuck out with that bullshit"? Bro we should be saying that to you! YOU put him in office, NOT us!
You can't vote for that turdbox and then not expect people to question it.

No. They voted to empower a racist. A person of no morals or fiscal responsibility.

They voted against everything every republican has always supported. Except the racist and hateful bit. That was still there. And that's what they supported.

There was nothing else to support. That was his platform.

Question for you sir....... I have a list of 100 things, that Trump did/said, that were NOT "Good, Honest or Kind"....... yet you say these people supported him throughout? when he talked about grabbing woman by their pussys.... or when he called vets "losers"....... or when he said the Klan members with tiki torches marched through Charlotsville and he called them good people......or when he banned Muslims from traveling into our country....... I could go on if you'd like? This was the man they voted for and spoke for them?
Considering that type of behavior from somebody you support and voted for are not the traits of a "Good, Honest or Kind person" Thats not how I have raised my kids or how I was raised.

dude there confederate flags and swastikas at EVERY trump rally. this are not random occurrences, they are at EVERY FUCKING EVENT. my neighbor with Trump/Pence signs in his yard a few years ago decided to bring out his 5 foot confed flag to wave around while i was out painting my deck, clearly trying to incite shit.

just one of the more in my face events of racism growing up. the subtle ones are even more annoying, but always underlying.

sorry you can't see the forest among the trees or make obvious connections.
illmatic99, I'm a White man who is firmly with you. Go to Missouri, Alabama or Georgia and you will see it on steroids. Hawaii seems to be the farthest removed from it.
