Carmelo Anthony has confirmed a meeting with the #Knicks organization in a few hours. Right after Joe Johnson.

Isn't that tampering? I don't think this is true.

Definitely seems like tampering.

BTW - this has been the only time I have been looking forward to the offseason. The last time I think we have had cap space was when I was in the 2nd grade.

He's allowed to negotiate a sign and trade of himself.

Pretty sure, anyway.

And he can opt out of his current contract, like Pierce did.

I thought he, unlike the rest of the top players from the '03 class, did not have an opt-out clause in his contract?

According to MikeDC's and StoryTeller's salaries, he has an ETO.

I think his ETO is on the fifth year not the fourth like LBJ/Bosh.

He shouldn't be allowed to talk to another team right now, especially about a sign-and-trade.

Yeah, I think I remember when everyone signed their extensions that 'Melo didn't have the "loophole" ETO in the same year that James/Wade/Bosh had theirs.

I think this is the case, he signed first and had an extra year in his contract. I think the S&T scenario is different though.

I actually read the Knicks are meeting Mike Miller first, then Joe Johnson and Amare. Nothing about Anthony except a twitter report.

Has anyone heard of this guy who is reporting it? Doubt he has the scoop.

The ETO is next summer.

If Denver wants to trade him to the Knicks, and the Knicks want him, the Knicks better be sure he's not going to exercise it.

(hence a meeting makes sense)

Yeah but he isn't a free agent so... I don't think he's allowed?

Oh yeah, it would be a major coup if the Knicks did trade for Melo. If he were a FA, he'd be the #2 prize in free agency, IMO.
