CBS Sports: Blazers poised for fast rebuild

Someone's getting traded in that front court, that's for sure. We might still be in the market for a salary dump trade like picking up Nene, in which case the most attractive thing we have to offer is a young guy on a rookie contract (C.J., Meyers, Plumlee).

We would have most definitely gotten yo the second round with Matthews healthy last year but then we would have faced the champs

We probably wouldn't take the trade for Nene under those circumstances.

Nothing at all is a pretty good circumstance. I probably wouldn't trade any of those guys for Nene either, but he is a badass, though a little long in the tooth. Given all the cap space oriented trades that have been going down recently we could probably squeeze a pick or two out of it though. I'd certainly do it for Kaman

There's no need for Kaman to stay. Not even for his experience. That stuff is cool when you're winning, not so much when you're rebuilding. He's trade bait. Might not happen til the deadline, but I'd be shocked if he was still here after it.

Yeah, I think we could trade him for a SF or PG.

What about Jordan Crawford for the bench? He had a really good half season in Boston 2 years ago before being traded to the Warriors to back up Steph.

On November 29, 2013, he recorded his third triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a 103-86 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.[12] On December 9, 2013, Crawford was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week after averaging 23.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 3 rebounds on 61 percent shooting, helping the Celtics go 3-0 for the week.[13]

God no. Selfish player.

Any undrafted free agents worth a punt (as the Britt say)?

I can't wait to see the news guys roll out and compete. It's time for something different and it might even be some fun. We really don't know how handcuffed Dame was having to defer to Aldridge. Now we're going to find out. Remember when Drexler would get the ball and do his thing? Every single person in the arena, including the other team knew exactly what Clyde was gonna do. And as he'd gather himself to do it you could feel the air pressure in the building drop as 12,666 people sucked in their breaths. Then, as soon as he finished posterizing the opposite team, you could almost feel your ears pop when everyone released their breaths in an explosive cheer. I think we're going to see and feel that again over the years as Dame just gets better with no divas to hold him back. Let's put Aldridge in the rear view mirror and be grateful for what we have. Dame has what LA (or Drexler for that matter) will never have......heart, guts and an assassins cold blood when it's needed most. This ain't over......
Nice post. I'm actually looking forward to watching an offense that doesn't come to a grinding halt every time Aldridge gets the ball.

I think Kaman is essential for rebuilding. If you have no vets and all young guys, there is no one to mentor them, keep them from getting too high and too low, keep pointing out the 'tricks of the trade', and help nurture that rise up. Coaches are great but there is nothing like a teammate in practice that is like a Coach on the floor.

That was one of the real missing ingredients from the early Roy years; barely anybody to show those youngsters how to lead and how to navigate the sometimes muddy waters of becoming a star gracefully (e.g. the way Roy reacted to Andre Miller, etc.).

I think this is especially true for Meyers Leonard in the wake of the firing of Kim Hughes. Kaman treats Meyers like his kid brother and I think he needs that now even more with the expanded role he's going to be expected to carry next season.

Fast rebuild huh...what's their definition of fast

Vonleh's upside is ridiculously high if you think about his age...way younger than even Meyers, yet in a couple dozen games his rookie year he had flashes of looking like an NBA player. Not many said that about Leonard his rookie season

I think we need to get out of the lottery within 2 years. Otherwise, Dame may ask us to trade him to his hometown Warriors.

2 years would be perfect, as it will turn the 1st round draft pick that we owe Denver into just 2 2nd round picks.

The problem with so many forums is people are fans of their own team. Therefore their players they have followed are better than other players. Also they have no clue the caliber of players on other teams. So much of the typical response this summer when players have been brought in has been "who's that?". What Neil.has done though is bring in young guys who are already regular players in the NBA with the exception of Vonleh. Vonleh has the highest ceiling though.
If I ever watch another team it's usually because a Blazer player I liked or a guy I watched play on the Ducks or Beavs is playing. I followed the Pistons when Sheed played there and loved that team
