I watched the halftime TNT and Charles said it again in this close context.
"Blazers don't have a very good bench" and was then also asked, "Will Portland stay 1st place in the West?" and Chuck said "No".
He still was condoning Portland as a "Jump Shooting" team.

Shut your mouth right now Barkley is amazing he makes that show.

He's not that far from the truth though. The bench isn't that great (and because last years was sooo bad, almost anything this year would've been an improvement) and the team IS a jump shooting team.

And it's doubtful they'll remain in 1st all year.

It's not historically bad anymore, but It's not good.

I've always liked Barkley. Always complimentary of the fan base here.

Charles is consistent. He says that about every jump shooting team. The problem is almost all teams are jump shooting teams. So somebody has to win. If Lillard would get the phantom calls that Harden gets our points at the basket would increase.

He's been wrong many times. The team just needs to make him wrong again. I think he is wrong about them. Jump shooting teams that are more finesse on the court are doomed to fail. This team is a lil more than that. They are a gritty, scrapping, hard working team. There is a reason why they are the best in the west right now. I do agree I think they need a lil more from the bench. But maybe CJ is exactly what the doc ordered.

I think Barkley liked the Felton/Wes/Wallace/LMA/Camby team that started 7-2 and then imploded.

I love Barkley, he's wrong a ton but I'm ok with that, he is amusing and speaks his mind fully, not hedging his words like everyone else. At least his thoughts are fun to discuss.

Calling us a jumpshooting team is just lazy. He's forgetting that these shots are WIDE OPEN most of the time and come as a result of great ball movement out of double teams in the post and penetration. It's not like we're just chucking contested shots and getting lucky. Our offense is a lot more like the Spurs' than the Knicks of last year

Ironically, Aldridge is taking more shots in the paint than ever this year, something I've wanted him to do for a long time.

Kenny and CWebb also said the Blazers wouldn't stay in the #1 place. In fact Kenny Smith said it also on NBA TV a few weeks ago. Chuck said he didn't like Jump shooting teams in the playoffs. I don't think he aimed that at the Blazers as he has always said this so I have to respect his opinion.

The stats back his position, but does that mean we're a bad points-in-the-paint team? Statistically, it suggests it, but Aldridge was doing all sorts of damage near the paint. Lopez had like 5 dunks/rim makes. Wes attacks the paint. Batum and Lillard are more than capable of penetrating. The same goes with transition points, where we are near the bottom in the league. I haven't seen us botch too many fastbreak opportunities this year. Missed shots, yes. But not wrong decision type things. First in the league in offense efficiency. Didn't hear any of the "analysts" mention that, which is more telling I think.

Our team reminds me of the Rams back in 1999 when nobody wanted to believe they were legit.

Even after Dallas won it all jump shooting, he's still selling hard on Portland, and it just makes it more satisfying when he ends up looking dumb. It makes that show. I think you meant to type condemning, ya?

Just. Keep. Winning.

What exactly did he say that was wrong?

Portland's bench is thin
We are a jump shooting team
He said we were 29th in points in the paint and 27th in fast break points or something like that

Don't ya know? It is not WHAT you say but HOW you say it. Did he say it with love for Portland in his voice or was it said in a denigrating manner?

My kids once played a song for me wherein if you said something in a song with a happy tune to it, you could say whatever and it would be taken nicely.

Charles is going with traditional thinking which is right more often than not, but not always right. Since, at least so far this year, the traditional thinking is not right, whatever Charles says must be wrong.

I will admit that I was leery of the early success as I wasn't sure it was sustainable. However, they continually find ways to win and show a strength of will and character that has not been seen for quite some time in a Blazer team. It has been prevalent at times in certain players (i.e., Roy) but not necessarily in the team as a whole; now it seems to be throughout the entire team.

There are exceptions to nearly every rule and the pre-season predictions for the Blazers were by-the-rules. Some still hold to those by-the-rules predictions for future success. We, has homeristic fans, believe they are wrong and point out as evidence of our correctness, their continued success no matter the opposition (well, except maybe for those dang Suns).

Long-term, those who predict less than ebullient success have as much chance of being correct as those of us who hope for more.

It is interesting and refreshing that in spite of the current success, there is little discussion of us winning it all. Nearly any time that is mentioned, it is with a breath of hesitation that we could actually go that far. Too much perception that the NBA would not allow that to happen. In spite of how things are now, we are destined for a Miami/Lakers finals. ;)

Gramps...
