A lot of teams will regret passing on him. I know most Blazer fans wanted no part of him. But the guy can flat out play. He can shoot from everywhere, good size, great verticle leap, and good handles. If he was black he would have gone in the lottery.

I don't think you are that far off base. He has a decent shot a finding a niche in the league.

I know what you were talking about. And I was going to leave it out. I have never gone to the race card before in my life. But I believe that there is a perception by white GM's and white fans, that many white players are soft and this dude with his socal beach boy appearance.........looks soft.

There is not many especially at the wing positions. And being the High school player of the year................in volleyball, probably does not help his image. But the kid has skills.

I think it's hard to argue against his skill set and his physical attributes... good size, great leaper.

The main question appears to be mental/emotional makeup. That sort of thing is really tough to pin down, but Chase appears to (a) be a guy that doesn't seem to work hard on the floor, and (b) be a guy that didn't improve a lot and dominate as expected in college.

For a "weak draft", he certainly slid pretty far down. I think he's got a good chance to be a good pro because I have NO idea what (if anything) makes him tick.

Meh, Jason Kapono said he would have gone higher if he was European, and you think Chase would have gone higher if he was black. I think the NBA scouts fairly well, and it really has nothing to do with the color of your skin. But it does raise an interesting question; Why are there less American-born white players in the NBA? It's an interesting question. Is it about economics? Desire? Talent? I don't think race has anything to do with talent, so what is the difference?

OK ....exchange the word in my orginal post from "white" to "laid back, blonde haired surfer looking dude". Bottom line is he does not look like he is intense and therefore does not look like he works hard. The dude just plain looks SOFT and LAZY. And i think that perception is wrong. He just looks that way.

Personally i think he will be better than Kopono and Kopono is pretty effective. Chase has that pull up J that many three point shooters do not possess. Plus he handles the ball very well for his size. And again has an excellent vertical leap which will help him finish.

The three players just about everyone (me included) agreed on were Budinger, BJ (now "Byron") Mullens and Austin Daye. All three are looking really good in Summer League (especially Daye - maybe Joe Dumars hasn't lost his touch). Meanwhile Ty Lawson, for example, is not.
