I was one of the "no" votes because I'd rather have had a more established coach like Carlisle or D'Antoni. But I've talked myself into liking the choice.

I often find myself talking myself into like Blazer decision. Part of being a fan I guess.

If the team is performing well in the first month of the season, nobody is going to care about a rape allegation from the 90's.
you can change the vote

pre-season cant come soon enough, im really excited to see what chauncey billups has in store for this team

im not even sure if its cause chauncey billups or for the fact that terrible terry stotts isnt here (id say its both) anymore, so were going to see something new and its so refreshing

Major PR blunder by Blazers to let story leak before they could formally introduce coach. Now they have to play defense instead of getting in front of the story. Well, get to see how well Billups plays defense.
How do you know the Blazers let it leak?

No contract is signed to do presser. The other coaches hired have had it reported well before signed.

You sure you want to go down this road? Seriously?

oh look another judgement instead of a counter debate..

You sure you want to die on that hill?

sure you want to go down that path????
LMAO

how about a cohesive counter argument if his path is so questionable?????

Oh.. there isn't one. Cause he/she is correct.

Fuck your tone.

You are basing your view of Dame on interviews and Twitter. I am basing my view on the physical world, here, in Portland. I'm sorry your hero is a philanderer. It disappointed me too. I would have never mentioned it, if he didn't endorse Billups. All these hypocrites.

Or he has an open relationship.

Again, I'm not judging Dame for his actions, but if you couple his actions with his endorsement of one garbage human and then another potentially garbage human, then Dame sucks too.

wait what? Physical world in Portland? So you hang out with him and the women in his life and have enough direct contact to see how he is physically, in the real world, with the women in his life????

Please log off the net for a while bro…

So i decided to enter the world that is S2 - Oregonian - Blazers Edge

Some of you have lost your collective minds. That idiot John Clownzappa has completely lost it! Dave Deckard has pretty much Convicted Billups all on his fucking own?

I posted this on Blazers Edge. I doubt it will be there more than a few minutes because i called out the Emperor/Fascist Leader/King whatever they call him there.

I personally feel Dave Deckard should not have posted this until Chauncy Billups has a chance to address it.
This situation and conversation has gotten way out of line and the man has the right to address it. Problem is he can’t until it is officially announced and the opportunity has been given to him to answer any questions about the situation. He is still an assistant for the Clippers and they have a series to play.
Posting this story just like John Canzano has done, was not just a poor choice but is was reckless at best. The court of public opinion is something journalist and people in the journalistic community have an obligation to respect.
Dave Deckard failed to respect the powers that he has here.
Seems a number of comments on this site get Deleted. It’s why i post here very seldom. I hope that this comment gets the respect it deserves because it is also part of the issue. You cannot publish a story without the author being held accountable just as much as the accused. It’s the same as you cannot endorse someone without being held responsible for that endorsement.

Fact of the matter is Rape is an ugly and violent crime and perpetrators of that crime should be convicted to the fullest extent that the law allows. The problem here is that absolutely NONE of these women were raped or sexually abused by Chauncy Billups but somehow Mr Deckard has sullied Mr Billups by connecting him to not only these 5 women but even worse All rape victims.

I would hope in the future Mr Deckard and along with him Mr Canzano of the Oregonian would choose to use a greater amount of restraint in their quest for "Clicks" on the internet. People who are accused have the right to defend themselves. In this case Mr Billups has not been allowed that opportunity and by the time he does public opinion will have already made it’s decision.

Kjironman!

Please tell me @SlyPokerDog has not gone all "Kill the Rapist" on this site?

Also. Maybe you guys should just chill a bit? Nothing can get addressed until Billups gets a chance to address it publicly. He should address it i agree but he deserves the chance in my opinion.

Still confused, was it implied that Damian has an "open relationship"?

“Mr Bigshot? Not bad, could be worse, could be better, maybe not at the moment”

Between indifferent and excited to see how the team responds to him as coach.
Absolutely nailed it! Sums up the entire thread. Can we close it now?

Well said, KJ. It needed to be said.

Billups shouldn't address any of this publicly. Its 24 years old. No matter his comment it can be turned against him. Even if he says the allegations are 100% false, and even if they are, then people will say why did he settle or why is he going against women reporting rape.

Neil should say they did a thorough background check and are comfortable with everything they learned (assuming that's what happened as reported)

What is the comparison of the reaction in Dallas to an actual convicted Head Coach?
Looking around the twitters and such it’s there, but it’s not as prevalent. To me that makes sense because Dallas has all 5 major sports, so I don’t believe the passion is the same. That’s just my opinion though. It’s also a much bigger market, which I think makes a difference. I think you’d see similar outrage in Utah, OKC etc

The question will be asked and an answer will have to be given. But I agree there is no answer that will satisfy people. What could he possibly say that would exonerate himself without throwing the victim under the bus? And he certainly would not want to do that.

Considering what I know of Dame, the off-court Dame, it doesn't surprise me in the least that he supports this hire. But folks in here? Making a victim with "injuries to [the] throat, cervix, and rectum, along with bruising on her back" out as a money-seeking predator is pretty disappointing. Is it true? Is it not true? After being assaulted in the throat, vagina, and rectum would your mothers and sisters and daughters settle if it looked like justice was unlikely to be served? 22 years old and faced with the lawyers of millionaires...

This rings of another famous raper of women, Kobe Bryant, who admitted with his own words what happened and yet? She settled. (People don't believe her either, but those people obviously haven't read Kobe's own account of the assault.)

Billups admits to sexual contact, but claims it was consensual. Meanwhile, the victim immediately called a friend and told her she'd been rape. The rape kit that clearly suggested rape had occurred. Futhermore, although Billups says he never went to Walker's house, the logistics of his version of the story are almost impossible, and a sealed suit from Walker against Billups is curious to say the least.

Those of you acting like this is some sort of PC war can fuck off. Go tell your wife about the allegations.

All this being said, Billups was not charged. It also seems crazy unlikely that Disney would have hired him at ESPN without a serious vetting. And yet questions linger. What perplexes me--other than the depressing position of the majority of posters in here--is that this franchise would risk their curated "culture" and (clearly phony) good-guy stance to take a chance on an unknown. It hardly seems worth it.

I’m having trouble following. So people should or should not be mad?

It seems that no matter which they are, someone will be mad or offended at their reaction or that they didn't react enoug. Horrible if it happened, but we don't know what happened. Yet the judgement crowd and media (Clown and sadly Dave, BE) are treating this like it happened for sure, without a doubt, just yesterday. #Portland

To me, Billups is an asinine hire because while he could be the next John Wooden or Dr Jack it’s a crap shoot. Yes, he’s well respected in the league, but who really knows if he can coach? He’s been an assistant for 1 year……1.
There are other assistant coaches who also could be the next John Wooden or Dr Jack that don’t have such serious stuff from their past.
I really hope he crushes it. I really hope people end up rooting for him that have doubts now.
There were hires out there that made as much sense if not more than Billups, without any past off court question marks.

I guess in closing, Olshey is a fucking idiot. Does he get that attendance dropped by around 3k during the JailBlazers era?

To reiterate:

You can both believe the person AND see the rehabilitation of the offender.

which there clearly is BOTH of these.

Should be mad at the people who aren’t mad? Or maybe it’s should not be mad at the people who are mad?
Propagandist goes on a lengthy diatribe about how bad this is and Lillard is a bad guy then says “All this being said, Billups was not charged. It also seems crazy unlikely that Disney would have hired him at ESPN without a serious vetting”. Soooooo which is it?

I don't quite get why you and others keep thinking that the number of years a person is an assistant is important. Some people are just better leaders of men.
Steve Kerr comes to mind, as does Lenny Wilkens who was a player-coach for the Cavs and Blazers. The other candidates might end up being excellent, (I am pulling for Udoka) but I just don't care how much time each spent as an assistant. Players either respect you or they don't.

I’m on the side of been vetted more than most. I’m good with it

Agree. My point, which I have trouble making, is it’s not like he is far and away the absolute no brainer hire. There are others equally if not more qualified on paper

If Olshey's intent was to break S2, then mission accomplished. Somebody said that America was a motel room and Trump was a black light, and I'm certainly getting that same vibe seeing some of the responses on this thread. I haven't felt this bad about the Blazers since the Summer of LaMarcus Leaving. But somehow this is worse, because that was like ripping off a bandaid - bad, and then we can start fresh. This is like when we signed Ruben Patterson, only worse. Really making me hate some of my fellow Blazer fans (the worst of which seem to have suddenly found their voice).

EXACTLY. Everyone defending him is like "it's not fair to him to deny him this job!" Bullshit. It's not HIS FUCKING JOB. It's open to all, and he's far from the best candidate. He's just Olshey's candidate. Probably this is some behind the scenes agent agreement anyway.
