“I called Dame to let him know we were making a coaching change, and I kind of told him the model of what we are looking at in terms of profile and the kind of candidates we would be looking at,” Olshey said. “And I said, ‘Hey, if you have a few names, let me know.’ And he gave me a couple names. Was reading this old quick article, and I totally missed this. Makes it seem like Kidd and Billups were actually Dame's choice. Even though Dame has always maintained that he picked some names out of a list of people Olshey gave him.

Now, it could very well be that Lillard wants to take a break from the drama that arose in the wake of Stotts’ departure. Lillard pushed for Jason Kidd to be Stotts’ replacement, going on the record saying he liked Kidd and Chauncey Billups. In the next 24 hours, there was a back-and-forth debate between the Blazers and Lillard’s camp, a conversation that likely centered around Portland’s concerns about Kidd’s domestic violence history. Less than 12 hours after that, Kidd withdrew his name from consideration.

These two seem like pretty important details, and makes it seem like we had to hire Billups after pushing back on Kidd?

We didn’t have to hire anyone.
Dame said “from the names he heard.”
He didn’t say where he heard those names as far as I know.
And Billups might’ve been the presumed leader in the clubhouse, but we had a pretty thorough and honest coaching search.
If you want to question a coaching search, look at the Pacers who essentially said “Rick Carlisle, hired!” without a second thought.

PS - Players choose coaches all the time. Shit the Celtics pretty much admitted that JB and Tatum chose Udoka.

This is actually the most comprehensive "investigation" I've seen yet.

“The plaintiff in this case is not interested in getting involved in the current controversy,” Burnham said late last month. “We stand by the allegations.”

Reilly, who declined to discuss certain specifics of the case, said that his office’s investigation determined that the woman was definitely raped that night by multiple men, but he was adamant that evidence gathered showed that Billups and Mercer did not go to Walker’s home that night, and that prior sexual contact between Billups and Doe and Mercer and Doe was consensual.

“What I can tell you is that regarding the incident, or interaction between he and the woman that was involved, we did investigate that, and it was a very thorough and very comprehensive investigation,” Reilly said of Billups. “We did interview the woman involved on at least one occasion, if not multiple occasions, and it was very clear that any acts between he and the woman were consensual. That was it.”

The Blazers’ hiring of Billups late last month has led to many fans being upset, believing that their team should have rejected Billups over the accusations. Reilly said he finds it surprising that some have convinced themselves that Billups is guilty, when 24 years ago his office determined that Billups was innocent.

“It was terrible,” Reilly said. “Absolutely terrible. But Billups and Mercer were not involved, nor was Antoine Walker.”

Reilly recalled much of the case but also recently spoke to others involved with the investigation to clarify certain points and events. He said the investigation took a few months and involved a grand jury hearing that resulted in no indictments.

“We went at this hard,” Reilly said. “If we could have prosecuted any of them, we would have.”

“Mr. Billups, he certainly put himself in a bad position,” Reilly said. “But as far as I’m concerned, he’s telling the truth.”

Whether it should or shouldn't, this certainly won't be the end of it.

I did not want to come to a firm conclusion when this story first broke and I'm still not comfortable saying I know what happened. The mob mentality did bother me, but that's the way of the world.

While I don't condone this tactic, I've always wondered what someone like Canzano would do if he were falsely accused of something.

The stance of: Your employer should distance themselves from you the minute you're accused of a crime and even if there are no charges or you are found innocent, society should limit/shame you for life... that's all well and good when writers are talking about someone else, but I'm guessing they'd quickly point out how their case is different if they were involved.

Reading that, the fact is a horrible thing happened. Chauncey said that he learned a lot from it. The Blazers PR person and Neil fucked up that news conference. Just say that due diligence had been done and you are confident in Chauncey's account and leave it at that. But Neil had to ham it up and say "thorough investigation" and now has been out investigated by a number of media outlets. The PR person didn't allow Chauncey to express himself and from what I've seen from Chauncey what he had to say would have helped the situation a lot. They didn't do him or themselves any favors but that's in the past now.

Chauncey's the coach, I feel comfortable with that. Neil looks like a clown but now he just has to not fuck up this off season and do what it takes to keep Dame here which happily will mean our team moving closer to contending for a championship.

I know @Idog1976 didn't.
