Chris Paul trade ideas! (post them here please)

And they'd be right back in the financial situation they're trying to get out of. See what I'm talking about?

No, I don't see it. I think they'd rather have Bosh than lose him and have cap space. They're $5M under the LT cap already with Bosh's $16.4M salary counted ($21M without him).

After LeBron and Wade have signed, Chris Paul is the next most appealing chip. So at least three teams can offer the Hornets that deal. Now, no doubt you think Paul wouldprefer Chicago (if they're one of them). But what if he doesn't think he'd work well with Rose? And I bet he wouldn't. So you wouldn't have him rooting for that option over (say) the Knicks and the Nets. In fact, if I was Chris Paul choosing between those three (assuming Chicago has wiffed on LeBron or Wade), I would probably rank Chicago third of those options. Not just because I'd be fighting for the ball with another star PG (who is already beloved of Chi. fans) but because the Nets and Knicks could wait and ALSO get Melo next year. So Chicago better offer more than just Cap space. And will they? The owner's not as rich as that Russian, who could probably throw money and picks in.

PLUS: the Hornets are already under the luxury tax. Shinn wants to woo buyers, while at the same time keeping costs low. It's a balancing act, and trading Paul for cap space alone sways way too much to the latter. And it would piss off whatever fans New Orleans currently has.

Luol Deng for CP3 and Okafor.

Stop repeating yourself. That is a horrible trade and you know it.

Deng's contract looks a lot better these days when Rudy Gay got $80M.

He really can play, and a position they need to fill. He's only 24, too.

I could see Melo going to NY. He played at Syracuse.

You mean like this:

Paul, Okafor and Posey
for
(deep breath):
Nicolas Batum
Andre Miller
Marcus Camby
Joel Przybilla
Rudy Fernandez
Jerryd Bayless

Which would give us:
Paul, Roy, Aldridge, Oden and ?
along with
Okafor, Posey, Cunningham, Pendergraph, the rooks and as many of our Euros as we can persuade to come over.
Oh, and Wes Matthews.

Killer starting 4/5. Weak-ass bench.

Rastapopolous for GM! Somebody get Bert Kolde on the phone STAT!

if we have to trade batum to get CP3 and Okafor? is okafor flippable for a SF? or Camby along with rudy?

Okafor is a pretty damn good backup 4/5 on his own. Pair Oden/LMA and Okafor/Camby and you have two sets of high/low posts.

The SF can be gotten for the MLE. Richard Jefferson for example.

Here's a trade that works:

Bayless, Joel, Andre, Batum, Elliot Williams (+next year's pick?) for Paul and Posey.

The Blazers:
Paul/?/Armon Johnson
Roy/Rudy
Posey/Babitt/Dante
LA/Camby/Howard
Oden/Camby/Howard/Pendergraph

The Hornets:
Collison/Miller
Thornton/Bayless
Batum/Peja
West/Diogu
Okafor/Pryzbilla

Blazers trade
$7,405,300 Pryzbilla (expiring)
$7,269,264 Miller (team option 2011-2012)
$6,796,524 Oden
$2,292,600 Bayless (team option 2011-2012)
$1,196,760 Batum (team option 2011-2012)

$24,960,448
_________________________________________________________________________________

Hornets trade
$14,940,152 Paul
$11,540,375 Okafor

$26,480,527
_________________________________________________________________________________

Which would leave us with

Paul/Williams/Johnson
Roy/Rudy
Babbitt/Cunningham
Aldridge/Pendergraph
Okafor/Camby

I'm not saying I wouldnt do it, but that team wouldnt beat the Lakers next year or anytime soon after. It would take a few years to fill in the holes, and it would take finding someone like the guy we just fired to fill in those holes. The trade ensures we're upper middle tier, but nothing more for now.

If we could hold onto Oden, and if he could stay healthy, I could see that team winning a championship. The question is, can we pry away Paul without giving up Oden?

I was thinking about an idea similar to Nate B's. But I was thinking more along the lines of replacing Batum with Oden in the deal. With Okafor in the deal the starting five would be set. I'd MUCH rather lose Oden than Batum.

PG: Paul
SG: Roy
SF: Batum
PF: Aldridge
C: Okafor

I would be fine with that too. It's just a matter of offering something that they will bite on.

Oh how I can't wait until Oden's revenge next year.

I will drag up all these so and so is much better, so trade Oden posts. Could take a me a few weeks in February to catalogue them all.

Haters.

And yes if Oden goes down for the season again next year that's probably it for me as well. I still think this is his year.

Chris Paul IS much better.

I like Oden, I think he's funny, thoughtful and has enormous untapped potential, but I've got limits to my optimism ... I hope to hell he blows up next year and "gets his revenge" (whatever that means?) because he'll make my favorite basketball team better, but it's not hating to question his ability to deliver.

I really like Oden and I still have a lot of hope that he will stay healthy and be a outstanding center for the Blazers. I wouldn't trade him for very many players in the league even though we should but when you can get the top PG who is a top 5-6 player in the NBA you have to make that trade especially with Oden's history of injuries.

People are acting like Oden for Paul is the only option, that's whats annoying me and seriously Batum > Oden give me a fucking break and I love Batum and rank him higher then LMA in importance to the team.

We could have Chris Paul and Roy and LMA and we NEVER win a championship, I'm not sure why people don't see that. Oden is our only hope slim though that hope might be it's him being healthy or we are fucked.

We'll never beat the Bosh/Gasol/Howard teams in the finals without Oden. I'm sorry, but that's a fact. Heck the only time we stood a chance against Houston was when Oden was in guarding Yao.

I want Paul and would Trade Oden straight across But Oden plus Batum plus 2/3rds of our team? Horrible, HORRIBLE idea. Rapes our defense. Trade Oden and all the filler you want I'm on board with that.

But saying give Oden over Batum is foolish IMO. You do it for Oden plus filler, but really I would MUCH rather trade Batum then Oden, it's not even close.

Gosh, people acting like Oden panning out is suddenly going to guarantee us a championship.

In my opinion, we have as much of a chance with a healthy Chris Paul than with an Oden who fills most of his potential.

And who cares if we have no bench? The Lakers won (twice) with 4 good players and a rotting bench. I'd say having sufficient stars is much more important than having depth.

Maybe the person I was responding to wasn't hating, but I'm sorry the Media has been on 24/7 Oden hate fest since 09/14/2007. That's the revenge factor. Hopefully bringing a hoop down on Bill Simmons head who is then a quadraplegic and can't dribble out his stupid hate filled column.

Not guarantee us a championship, but give us our best shot. Lakers have an incredible pivot in Pau Gasol, some were saying in 2009 that Pau was the best player on the Lakers, in this year's finals I tend to agree.

Anyways, you want Paul WITH Oden. LMA + Batum should be the extreme upper limit for Paul. Oden should be a last resort and I mean last resort to trade. He'd be the player who would benefit the most from Paul on the team without a doubt in my mind. I bet Oden would have a 25 PER + with Paul on the team something I certainly can't say for Batum or LMA.

Simmons is hilarious ... and he's frequently pretty close to the mark (whether or not his style of writing pisses you off). Don't hate on Bill, just because he called Oden vs. Durant pre-draft.
