Trade CJ McCollum to New Orleans

Woj says the plan is to now pursue high end talent..

mmmkay. Shouldn’t that always be the pursuit? Now we’re banking on free agent signings? Lol
Oh so now that we've traded four solid starters whose names are known around the league for a bunch of nobodies... this is the time that we'll start trying to get superstars.

So we take four $600,000 houses, sell them for $300,000 and expect to be able to buy a $5,000,000 mansion or two with what we made off of the sale of the homes. I don't think that works because we just took on huge losses, we can't afford superstars now.

To abandon the analogy, the only way we were going to get better players was by packaging our 5 or 6 good players together to get 2 better players. Now people are acting like we're a free agent destination... that money will go unspent or very much more likely be misspent badly.

To be fair, pursuing high end talent would be major strategic shift for this front office.

We dumped one of the worst contracts in the NBA and got draft capitol back without taking long-term garbage? I'm fine with this.

When people settle down on how talent-lite this trade is coming back, I think your take will resonate more and make more sense. We're not competing for anything this year and we're setting ourselves up to be able to sign Anfernee and re-sign Dame for the super elite max extension - plus adding some pics which we haven't really had in a few years to rebuild with. I'm good with this since I'm guessing Dame is off the table.

I wanted to say the rumor of it's not done yet could be BS but someone correct me if i am wrong we have not seen either the Blazers or NO confirm this trade so very possible there is more coming aka a 3rd team involved.

Oh it will be spent to extend Dame, re-sign Ant and Nurk (If he isn't traded) and to bring in guys that Billups thinks will fit like Bryant, Harrell, Prince, Ibaka, Young, Bagley, Warren ...etc

And I just threw up a little in my mouth

Not sure if this has been posted yet (tough to keep up) but this is the NOP beat writer who said that a 3rd team could be getting involved

Cronin is to Olshey as Biden was to Trump or Trump was to Obama... Just a bunch of executive orders, tearing up the work of his predecessor.
Fantastic analogy.

Maybe we can get another guard or an additional conditional 2nd round pick three years from now!

Apparently other people feel differently. Just had someone act like Nance was trash replying to me.

What Blazer fans do. Downplay our own players when we lose trades.

We got Nance for a 1st last year and it was widely thought of us great for us. Just because he didn't play great for the short number of games with us doesn't mean he isn't talented.

Just wish we would still have our first and traded DJJ in this deal instead.

Nance was underwhelming at best:

I have no idea what’s going on anymore.

- clearing cap space (which never works here)
- keeping Dame and paying him a gazillion
- bunch of random mediocre players who have little value and can’t get value in return
- keeping young good players
- getting one pick back and our pick = youth movement but with Lillard? Why not trade Lillard and really speed up the process

Also, where is this "21 mil TPE" number coming from?

It's 16.8 mil + 100k. So not enough for Grant/Sabonis/Turner.

We only get it if happens to be the 53rd pick, then if it doesn't convey it moves on and on to subsequent drafts and it only ever conveys if it's the 53rd pick.

My statement was in response to the many posts that Jody Allen is making moves in order to sell or move the team.

It just doesn't make sense, so she's destroying the value of the team so she can sell it for less money? That's what you're implying.

You are assuming a buyer who wants to be stuck in Portland. What if the buyer wants to be able to move the team? The first step is to lower the short-term value and torch the fan base. Drive the fans away, then you can convince the league to let you move. That was how SLC, OKC, and Memphis all got teams.

There's also nothing saying that the Blazers couldn't package picks and move up if they don't get lucky with the lottery, especially considering that if the lottery holds to form they would have picks #8 & 9. That should easily put them in range for Smith/Banchero/Holmgren
