Clingan: biggest underperformer so far

I think Grant, Tou and Clingan are all tied for "biggest underperformer".

I know Danny Marang likes to act like Tou is "being asked" to defend players and that's why he's not hitting shit, but that's such a stupid excuse. He's been asked to do that *all fucking year*.

DC almost looks like someone who has concrete in his shoes, even more so than normal. His "defense" on Kornet has been embarrassing at best, and pathetic at worst.

Clingan played well to start the 3rd. Rob rocked the first half. Both disappeared in the second half.

I look for Grant to have huge games in Moda Center coming up. He has to save face. I would not be surprised if when these games are inevitably tight, Grant may just save us.

No he doesn't. He got paid. He doesn't give two shits. He gets a free ride.

I am going to shut this shit down right the fuck now ...

Yes -- DC has been average at best but part of that is how he is being used and how I think other players are leaving him out on an island to do everything ( rebound etc ) but if we are talking biggest underperformer there is only one choice

Sharpe -- PERIOD

I find it funny how Sharpe got into Billups dog house at least seemed that way and now Splitter has kind of put him in the same house at times. There is a point where you have to wonder how much is it on the coaching staff and how much is on the player. I do think the team being in flux since pretty much since he arrived is part of it but at some point his raw talent and work ethic should have come through and not just here and there so it's on him at this point. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery but IF he ends up staying for sure next season is his make or break season and no if's and's or but's about it.

I realized. It's sad. I don't know. It looks like he tried? Just things not working for him. He was on people with energy defensively, wasn't he?

Sharpe is coming back from a injury, coming off the bench and on mins restriction.

Sharpe is playing like someone who either

A: shouldn't be playing
B: doesn't want to be here anymore
C: doesn't care

because he was at least a threat for most of the season, but since he came back he's been invisible.

I'm hoping it's mostly A, but I think B and C might have something to do with it. Could be other too.

D. Got paid and now doesn't need to work anymore.

He was playing good and scoring over 20 points a game and he comes back from injury and all of a sudden doesn’t care? Once again people treating the guy coming back from injury like they did Scoot when he first came back.

He’s so talented that it’s easy to forget how young he still is. When he’s playing up to his talent level he as good as anybody. I think his defensive woes and lack of court vision or a great handle are where he needs growth. Also think he should tie his hair back and get it out of his face while playing.

Meanwhile Jrue is literally being asked to defend Wembanyama, and not doing a terrible job.

I think he has talent that is obvious, it just is the wrong era.

You don't build with guys that become useless in the playoffs.
I think "wrong era" is a stretch. Hartenstein has a ring, for example. Clingan's play had noticeably declined towards the end of the regular season - I think he's hit a wall. He needs to spend the offseason working on lowpost moves. It's not like a 2-time NCAA champion wilts in the bright lights.

again....Clingan has taken 35 shots, and more than half, 18, have been three's (and he's 3-18). What the fuck is the best offensive rebounder in the NBA doing spending so much time 25 feet from the hoop? That's a coaching failure

Can’t hate on the guy. The Spurs force us into those offensive situations and they are begging Clingan to be a 40% 3pt shooter.

These losses are not on the players, it’s on the coaching staff 95%. I don’t even want to throw shade at our guys; but you don’t pull off statistically horrible stats like this unless the gameplan to work around the opponent is garbage.

Jerami Grant top of the key jumpers is the answer.

If he’d made them the idea is it would draw wemby out to defend him so Deni can drive without getting called for the most bullshit offensive foul in the history of the modern NBA. But he didn’t so Game 4 happened.

It’s conditioning and getting used to the energy expenditure. Remember last season he got winded after 20 minutes on the court every night. The playoffs is more of everything twice as intensely, at the end of the regular season. The Spurs coasted to 2nd seed; we clawed up to 7th and now we are very tired and would like to sleep in please.

I’m sad he and much of the team has faded after the release of getting a win, but it’s not exactly a fucking puzzle why.

I don't buy that for a second, mainly because the Spurs aren't dumb enough to take Wemby out of the paint on defense just so he can stay close to a 30% shooter from the arc. The Spurs simply didn't rotate to Clingan, they left him open. If he'd made more, they would have simply rotated to him with perimeter defenders rather than taking the DPOY out of defensive position

this was a case of Portland parking the best offensive rebounder in the league 25' from the rim with the misguided belief that was a smart way to minimize Wemby's defensive impact. The Spurs were never going to cooperate with that nonsense.

I didn’t say it was a GOOD idea lol
